Malang Sarr

Did pretty well, but his passing is poor. Really needs to work on that distribution, some sloppy loose short balls, and too safe in his pass choice.

If we are going to reach the next level, we need players in all positions, that can play under pressure, and pass with forward with purpose, because at the moment we end up with safe possession, until either Rudiger or Thiago Silva, play forward, or if Kovacic and Kante manage to play through the press. Whenever it comes to Azpi, Sarr, or Alonso, it generally goes backwards.

Decent game for Sarr though defensively, i thought he coped pretty well with Sterking in the whole.

Spot on!

Agree with everything in this post.

Dunno, seems a very nice lad and ofc I'm glad he can help out at the moment but I don't really see it. I kinda like that he's cocky and he isn't helped by having to play alongside Alonso but IMO he's doing way too many unforced errors or not-so-ideal movements in almost every game I've seen him play. Was the worst defender against Chesterfield too. Sure as a back-up that plays here and there but he's not the youngest either, right? (maybe he is, not sure) Sounds quite harsh and he is unlucky to play so many games within heavy rotation, lots of injuries and inconsitencies within the whole squad so yep, glad he's here right now doing his thing but fail to see him as a long term solution. Contrary to Trev.

22 years old to be fair, putting in a decent shift against City at that age is a very good sign, he definitely has someplace in our squad in the coming years, even just as a rotation option

Ah, ok. Then maybe it was Baker? I remember one player of those "talents" being mentioned by the commentator who was rather old, in footy terms, thought they meant Sarr - which surprised me then but well.

Whatttt ? Tuchel was screaming at him constantly and you can tell his teammates does not trust him on the ball

Tuchel was screaming at everybody today, especially the forwards. As for the teammates not trusting him on the ball, that is just you seeing what you want to see because they were showing a lot of trust by passing him the ball throughout.

To be fair that's what City mostly did, no? leaving him a wee bit open while keeping Rüdiger and Thiago (and Kova) in check so they usually had to pass to Sarr. One of our problems that his long balls were bad. For reference: against Spurs a couple of days ago it was mainly Rüdiger..and that shows. That + Kepa's "long range passes" today were one of the reasons we couldn't cope with City bossing our midfield.

Problem was his passes were going astray, too safe  or backwards. Defensively he actually did ok, Alonso early yellow really did for us and after Kovacic was carded too, City really targeted that flank. As others have said a good squad player but that probably is his limit.

Nahh, I am actually very unbias on any player especially with player like Sarr who I don't have clear profile. But it is quite obvious how uncomfortable Sarr was on the ball. He was kinda the free man because city wanted to channel the ball to his direction.

Saying that he played ok is fine, he is a young player playing in difficult circumstances but clearly he looked like an odd man out

Yeah agree with this and with other posts above. Cheaply conceding possession was the root of our problems yesterday (the edifice crumbled as a result) and Sarr along with the front 3 was guilty of this, though I cut him a lot more slack given lack of experience and his crucial defensive contributions.

Brilliant performance. Looked good for a while but today he really delivered when we needed him to step up.

That leftback spot better be his for the foreseeable future. Without getting ahead of myself I really think this 4-2-2-2 is the way forward, at least until our wingbacks are back. Azpi-Rudi-Silva-Sarr form a very solid back four.

It’s the two protecting the four that are more the worry. But agree it’s the way forward for now.

Played really well today.

He can defend and his passing was good today.

Could he the left full back we need to get through the season without spending a penny?

Just depends how he adjusts as a LWB.

He’s been very reliable this season. Started abit erratic but has cut them mistakes out. I don’t feel worrried anymore when he plays. Keep him around.

I suppose the question is for the club is, is he top quality? We might not need him to be top quality, a good squad player is largely what’s needed.
