August 12, 20178 yr I feel sorry for Charly. Cameo was virtually nonexistant with balls being played in the air for the 3 mins he was on
August 12, 20178 yr The only positive I can take from this match is that when Morata came on he was an absolute beast. I said before the game he should've started. As for the negatives, well where do I f**king begin, yes the ref screwed us over, but we were absolutely pathetic in that 1st half, completely lost the plot after Cahill was sent off. Even at 1-0 down the way we were playing wouldn't be a disaster, get us in the dressing room at 1-0 down and get our heads sorted, but to lose 2 goals just before HT really killed the game. What was also really worrying was our lack of options from the bench, the board really needs to get their finger out their arse and buy 4-5 players ASAP. Who the f**k do we play alongside Kante against Spurs??? Bakayoko still injured and we decided to sell Matic to f**king UNITED of all teams and never brought in any replacements, that's just asking for trouble. Not worried about Cahill being suspended TBH. If anything it might force us to bring in a couple of defenders. What a nightmare to start the season. No positives to take starting the defence of our title with a home defeat to a team many are predicting for relegation.
August 12, 20178 yr Damn you football, making me swear like a nutcase like that. Sorry about that everyone
August 12, 20178 yr Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Sane and Yaya Toure on Man City's bench. Reminds me of us around 12-13 years ago. How things change.
August 12, 20178 yr As humiliations go, it didn't end as badly as it might. All we need to do is drop Matic in for Fabregas and... oh. I guess a couple of signings are still needed to give us the depth we're missing. Drinkwater might not be a bad shout. Knows Kanté and won't cost the earth plus Conte has proven with Moses and Alonso that he can bring on players. Here's hoping.

August 12, 20178 yr The referees gegenf**ked us !!!! Lets go in reverse order shall we ? - 4 minutes to end the OT ? The amount of bookings and fouling would easily result in a 6+ minutes at the least !!! but only 4 minutes ? Do they know arithmetic ? - Rudiger Yellow- Luiz was fouled by the Burnley player. You dont want to bok the burnley player, then fine. But Rudiger who was in the area had NO contact with the Burnley player. Luiz and the Burnley player fall down. Who gets the yellow card? Rudiger! - 2 Yellow cards for dissent - How can Cesc be booked for decent when it happened immediately after a sending off of Cahill? When Cahill got booked, he and Caesar were the only 2 senior members and obviously they need to voice their disapproval. Luiz yellow for dissent was even more ridiculous. HE gets a yellow cos he refuses to move from the opposition goal side? - Cahill red - I will side with the ref, but on giving this, the ref is already establishing that he wants discipline in the game, however he is letting Burnley players get away with more physical pushes and niggling founls (I am not blaming Burnley players for this). How exactly are u trying to establish discipline? You aggrieve one team by sending off their player and then cannot hold both teams accountable evenly for the rest of the game duration ? That to me is just shambolic refereeing. On a side, congratulations to Burnley on their win. I did not see anything nasty and am not going to be-grudge their win. They played like a decent team with no inherent enmity. Our own Chelsea team - I love our defense. Christensen and Rudiger, welsome to the premier league and from today's evidence, they will slot in well with us. Feel sorry for Boga for not getting a proper debut. Oh and hello Moratta, I was worried if he can fill in the void left by Costa and from all evidence i think he can. Michy needs a loan spell, he cant hold the ball upfront on his own and that is bad for us.

Christensen and rudiger looked good going foward but exposed on defence Not really, they were good for most part, but the lack of cohesion was exposed on setpieces, this is something that only playing together in the system can bring. I expect a mile of improvement by next week.

Lorente is only good as a third option, big, tall, great in the air, and at his age should be content to be a back-up, every team needs those in the squad. We need a quality striker as a real competition to Morata for the starting spot. I don't know who that may be, but Batshuayi will never be that player.
August 12, 20178 yr The Positives: 1. Alvaro Morata: Outstanding when he came on, his movement was class, and was a real handful in the Burnley box, he won't be doing too badly if he dives in for the ball like he did today for the rest of the season. He gave the players and crowd a big lift 2. N'golo Kanté: Classy as always, was one of the few bright lights in the first half, he was doing the job of 3 players. Always fighting for the ball and was very unlucky to not have gotten a goal today 3. Willian: Like Kanté, showed real fight, and was always looking to cause trouble, it's a pity there was rarely any support for him 4. Antonio Rudiger: I thought he did well today, you would think looking a the scoreline the defence had a nightmare (which they did tbf) but I thought he was one of our better players today. I also liked how he wasn't afraid to get forward and have a few shots at goal 5. Andreas Christensen: Good to finally see him make his league debut, he has lots of potential and again, one of our better players today The Negatives: 1. Craig f**king Pawson: While the red cards angered me, it was the lack of consistency is what really makes my blood boil. How can Cahill be sent off for a challenge in which he was going for the ball and then Ben Mee only get a yellow for a two footed studs-up lunge on Morata? How can Arfield (I think) only get a yellow for dragging his studs down Alonso's upper leg when he was nowhere near the ball? If memory serves me correctly it was very similar to Barnes' challenge on Matic in 2015. How did Brady escape a second yellow and a penalty when he dragged Alonso to the ground in the second half? Why did the vast majority of 50-50 decisions go in Burnley's favour? 2. Gary Cahill: I'm not absolving Cahill of any blame in my above point, it was absolutely idiotic of him to go in like that. Why did he go on the run in the first place? Absolutely shambolic from our captain, I could never see Terry doing something like that. Really had us on the rack with that moment of madness 3. Michy Batshuayi: I love the guy, but he is not a player to lead the line, he was very poor today. I do think he'd be much more effective in a 3-5-2, but I can't see that happening any time soon. He had a chance today and wasted it 4. David Luiz: I felt he was all over the place today, yes he scored, but he was defensively poor, and that's not great if your primary role is to defend 5. Cesc Fabregas: Below par performance today, and his rush of blood really leaves us picking from scraps next week 6. Thibaut Courtois: I felt he could have done better for Burnley's first goal, but this is only a minor negative 7: Jeremie Boga: Not his fault, but it was an absolute shame he had to come off so early, I really felt for him, not the PL debut he dreamed of Edited August 12, 20178 yr by adineen98
August 12, 20178 yr It's a massive shame that Pawson wasn't pelted with celery on his way out, I hope we never see him at the Bridge again.
August 12, 20178 yr Looking at the positives... 1. Hopefully Cahill will miss the next 3 games and his place will be taken by Christensen or VVD 2. Morata will now be our first choice striker 3. The board will be shamed into giving Conte the funds and players he wants 4. It's the beginning of the season so there's still time to make amends 5. Two of our main players Hazard and Bakayoko have yet to show 6. Pawson will be critiqued by many commentators bout his officiating today and the standards that he has set today...and I expect future refs to take a very different view of tackles like Cesc's second yellow Edited August 12, 20178 yr by doctorblue

August 12, 20178 yr Moses need to come back into Rwb asap, Azpi attacking wise isnt very good, I think we missed him being in the Cb position today
August 12, 20178 yr Clattenburg doesnt agree with the first red card https://streamable.com/5d0ht Edited August 12, 20178 yr by DidierDrogbalala
August 12, 20178 yr Again, when we have either the LWB or RWB missing we struggle. Two games last year we lost, Man Utd away and Palace at home we did not have one of our 1st choice wing backs. Hopefully it can be seen now that Azpi is not skillful enough going forward, great defender but not a winger. The wing backs are a fundamental part of this system. We have missed out on some very good wing backs this summer, hopefully we can recruit at least a RWB before the end of the window. Moratta, looked quality, and for me he offers more than Costa as an all round striker.
