May 3, 20188 yr That diagonal ball he likes is going to set him apart. If he isn't part of the squad next season I hope his loan is a good situation. I think he can contribute as soon as next season or the year after. I'm not sure he'll be consistent enough to nail down a place on the bench but everything except experience and patience is there. If the club wants to give him a clear pathway to the first team they'll do it at the expense of Pedro or Willian. I know a lot would say Pedro first but I think it may be better to sell Willian and buy another younger winger or even give Kenedy a shot at it. Kluviert would be my choice. We may be playing more 5-3-2 so there's less need for an out and out winger like Willian and in the times we do play with 2 wingers or inside forwards we'll have one of the youngins on the bench at least. I haven't given up on contending next season, our attacking players are the least of our worries IMO. I do think now is a critical time for us to prepare for the future or continue on path we've been down for nearly a decade in terms of player development. I don't see Roman continuing to match spending so for me forcing our young players to sink or swim is the only path toward contention in the future.

He's only 18 - we may as well show a bit of faith in CHO.
May 3, 20188 yr Feels like we have been waiting for a youth player to break through forever. I know Christensen is one, but he had to go on loan to prove himself. It would be nice if we could get someone straight from the youth team into first team.
May 6, 20188 yr He liked a post on twitter regarding moving abroad, quite a few clubs interested in him apparently. If we lose a star like that, I don’t see the point in an academy.
July 17, 20188 yr Will be interesting to see if CHO sticks around this season rather than going out on loan. Kenedy has already been sent out on loan for the season so at the moment we've only got Hazard, Willian and Pedro as wingers and with the Europa League this season you would assume we need someone else for rotation... Maybe CHO will be given chances in those games?
July 17, 20188 yr Needs to be given chances or sent out on loan asap. We can't waste 2-3 years of his career on the bench like we did RLC.

He's 17, we don't send under 18's out. 10-15 first team apps alongside sh*tting all over the youth cup again will be a good season for him before his foray into full time senior football next summer.

In theory it’s possible to send 17 year olds out on loan but the fact that they are scholars complicates matter. I too think he and indeed Ampadu will get a few appearances at first team level maybe not so much in the league but certainly in the EL and both the CC and the FA cup The change of manager and indeed non participation in the CL may well be a major plus in the development of the two players I mention and quite possible a couple of others such as Charlie Brown

I wonder if he didn't rotate much because he only had so many players at Napoli who were capable of playing at the level required to compete in the CL and jockey for 1st at the same time. Think about it, who else do they have outside their best 11?

I am sure we sent Chalobah out on loan to Watford when he was 17 and had a brilliant loan spell there, so we certainly can send players out on loan if we feel it is the right setting. CHO will initially stay with us, not because he is under 18 but more for the fact that he is super talented and we don't know what is going on yet with likes of Willian and Hazard, so he will probably play quite a bit this season. Think the club will then review his situation in January but would be good to see him part of the squad as he is really talented. Edited July 18, 20188 yr by STATS

As I said you can send 17 year old scholars out on loan but it does get complicated. There are three types of loan : long term( normally a season), short term , and finally youth loans and it’s the latter which enables second/ third year scholars to play at other clubs. The reason I say play is that normally is that most scholars are still in effect in the educational system they stay with the owning club to carry on with their education and by virtue of that normally train at their owning club. I hope you’re right and he does take an interest in the academy, it’s the most promising academy we’ve ever had, a big shame if we don’t get the best out of it.
July 18, 20188 yr At Empoli he played youth but at Napoli he didn't. Rotation is his big issue but it was something he actually identified last season. I can see Hudson-odoi having a very good season under Sarri, especially as Willian and Hazard will need an extra month to get up to Sarri's football philosophy. He is a once in a generation talent in my opinion.

Yeah, Napoli have a terrible youth team. I don't hold it against him but because he has such a small sample size I can't say with certainty whether he will or won't play your players.

He'll play youth players if he's instructed to by Roman/the board. I am sure he would have been told to try make use of the most talented youth in our system, and if he can give them playing time throughout the season he will. Sarri isn't one to whine about what he's given.

I don't necessarily think we need to get rid of anyone, just create an environment that allows natural selection to take place. That way you would hope that we get the best of both worlds as the competition would make the "seniors" step up their game if they are being pushed by the kids. If CHO becomes first choice on merit and players like Pedro need to make a career decision, well then so be it.
