Alvaro Morata

Featured Replies

It's nonetheless unsettling to see him after 7 months of competition always too soft on the pitch ? What's he doing to training ? Why nobody tell him to strengthen his game ??? Where is Conte ??

Back to the comparison with Torres.

Torres was never the same player after the injury he got at Liverpool, but all the same he was a proven striker in La Liga and the EPL, and of top World class quality, so i can understand why the club carried on supporting him, despite his goal return being something over £1m per goal over his Chelsea career. We always hoped he would click back into form, but slowly over time it became obvious he was a level below the player he used to be. It was a physical injury more than anything psychological.

Morata is not a proven striker in any league, Italy, Spain or England.

For us to continue playing him he has to score goals, we can't gamble like we did with Torres. Morata is psychologically beaten up, the league is just way too rough for him.

We should though give him another chance next game against Citeh, they could be the one team that allows him to play (when we have the ball), maybe if he can grab a goal or two against them it will turn something on in his head, stranger things have happened.

Giroud is probably a better option right now, but no way is he better than Morata.

Lets not forget how badly we all wanted Morata, and how happy we were when we signed him instead of Lukaku!

I know he’s been terrible recently, but there is a world class footballer in him and he’ll break out eventually. I hope that happens before we sell him!

Lets have Giroud as our main striker for now, while we wait for Morata to rediscover his form.

Like your post generally yet with a couple of key differences.

Although I agree about Torres physical decline post injury I think it also developed into a psychological block, he missed some sitters!

Morata for me needs to earn his place, prefer Giroud until he loses form then give Morata another go.

Don't speak for all of us, i was very unsure on the pair of them, i even said so throughout last season and during the summer transfer window. I always said there must be a reason why Morata has never been number 1 striker in his career, now we are seeing why. He's mentally weak and doesn't like to dig in deep when things aren't going well, that is one of the worst traits you can have as a striker. Lukaku has the same problems at United that he has had throughout his career so far, he's not effective in the big games anywhere near enough, he also has an awful touch and often looks out of his depth at the top level.

I always said that whoever it was we signed would be a risky signing.

But he's still young Scott, fair enough if he was 27 you could say right now he's never going to get there. But compare him now to Drogba at his age, he could still mature and develop. He's definitely got good ability there, he just needs to learn how to lead.

Send him on loan to Phoenix Rising for a few months, he can learn from the big man himself.

I'm not very surprised, I think Morata is a quality player when he does the things right, he's having a good game. But I look back and when he played at Juventus, he was a backup striker, then when he came back to Real, he stayed as a backup striker, even when Benzema is pretty poor. There must be reasons for that, whole football fans were wondering how Benzema is starting over Morata, and now when Morata has got a chance to play as the main striker to lead the team, he fails.

Maybe it's too early to make a decision about him, but as I see this, he isn't the main striker. He can't lead us to glory like Diego Costa did. He's still young and it's his first season in Premier League, but he came with high expectations and until now he failed. Being "tired" is just bullsh*t, sorry for my language but there are players that praying to get minutes and play every game, the only one who can decide when the player needs a break is a manager. The things around him aren't quiet, maybe he can get out of this, but my hopes for him only went down.

He's 25, not exactly wet behind the ears for a professional footballer.

You would expect by his age as a striker to be showing more or less what you're capable of.

Drogba was the exception rather than the rule in regards to being a late bloomer talent wise.

A lot of the best strikers the Premier League has seen were tearing the league up by the time they were 25, somehow I don't think we're going to be adding Morata's name to that list.

Who would be your choice?

Suppose it depends what manager we're going to have next season and what brand of football he wants to play. Plenty of young strikers doing well in Europe like Werner, Icardi, Batshuayi, sadly Bakambu has just gone to China for 74m. I'd like to think our multi million pound scouting system would be able to come up with something.

Whomever the manager is, they get what's given. That's the whole problem in a nutshell right there.

Although i agree that the board has the final say i certainly think the manager has some sort of input. The increase in Serie A recruitment since Conte has arrived showed that. Conte clearly wanted Morata too.

The truth is somewhere in between. Looking at signings like DD, Barkley and Bakayoko, you say to yourself "No way Antonio wanted them".

Good point, but I don't think it's as bad as people are making out. He's been on a sh*t goal drought but granted it's his first season and the goals he's scored I wouldn't say he's a flop. And I think we just have to accept today's current market for what it is, you can't be too bothered by transfer fees anymore.

The only one that would be a definitive improvement on Morata would be Icardi (Actually my first choice for striker if we are in for one next season), the rest don't really fit with Conte's style and would struggle at a team like ours.

Yeah i played for Brazil.
Let me tell you a story...

There's these two cars who meet at a humpback bridge and there's only room for one car to get by. The first guy rolls down his window and shouts out 'I never back up for an idiot and the other driver replies, 'That's okay, I always do.'

hence the point of 'depends who our next manager is and what football they play'. I don't think Conte will still be in charge at the start of next season personally.

Man’s an idiot.

Once again comes on as sub and gets himself booked for dissent, which is moronic enough as it is but then should have been shown a second yellow for knocking the linesman’s flag out of his hand around the 90th.

Has no self discipline right now and frankly pisses me off.

The linesman's flag was a complete accident but he sarcastically clapped the ref after he received his yellow and he should have seen red for that.

Another yellow for petulance. Man's a complete prick. We were also much poorer when he came on, because he's playing abysmally.

Booked for shoving the defender, could have been booked again immediately for sarcastic clapping the ref, and again for having a go at the linesman.

I suspect he'll go back to Spain in the summer, if we can get the right price, and we'll start the search all over again, except this time possibly with no CL football to lure them.
