Who would be your choice as Chelsea manager going into next season? 213 members have voted

  1. 1. Here are the current favorites with Conte included. Jody Morris is in there as he is the current youth team manager, and promoting from within seems to have worked for Barca, so why not us?!

    • Luis Enrique

    • Massimilliano Allegri

    • Carlo Ancelotti

apparently talks between sarri and de laurentiis were positive, but there will be further talks. kind of put a dampener on what may have been a exciting appointment for us. there is still time for us to scupper those talks and bring sarri in though. i really only think jardim would be the next best option. it's clear enrique wants too much money, and i'm not confident in conte can lead us to the title next season tbh.

Not sure we're ready for that. Look at the number of people who have been slating Christiansen lately, despite him having a pretty glorious first season. If you bring those kids in too early, there's a very real risk of their confidence being destroyed if they take time to settle in. Not to mention you could almost certainly kiss goodbye to the CL for 2-3 years if we move to a youth first approach. Not saying its necessarily a bad idea, but it would have ramifications.

For me I wouldn't expect them to come into the first team straight away, you'd look to gradually introduce them over the season and with us being in 4 competitions next year they would see plenty of playing time. With us being in the Europa League they should get plenty of opportunities to impress

The big mistake we made last Summer was we bought in loads of squad players while loaning out or selling our talented academy players. Bakayoko wasn't needed when we had RLC, Drinkwater wasn't needed when we had Chalobah and Zappacosta wasn't needed when we had the likes of Sterling and Ola Aina. The majority of the players we bought last summer were on a similar level or worse than the players we loaned out. We spent around 100 million on Bakayoko, Drinkwater and Zappacosta and that money should have been used to sign 1-2 top class players who would have improved the first 11

Also, I know Chalobah wanted to leave and had only 1 year on his contract but I'm almost certain that if we would have guaranteed him decent minutes and kept that promise he would have happily signed a new contract by January. Bakayoko has played over 40 games this season while Drinkwater has been injured but still managed to play over 20 games. Those minutes should have gone to RLC and Chalobah

I take your point.

On a pedantic point, isn't League 1 the third division?

Yeah but the Premier League deal messed up all of the naming of league's.  I personally prefer the old naming as Championship sounds off to me. The Championship has a name that doesn't match it's standing in the league's.

On Eddie Howe, I do agree with your point that the skills and environment in which he succeeded at Bournemouth may not lead to success at a larger club like Chelsea. I would be interested in seeing him take over another bigger club but probably not here at the current time. We are at too important of a crossroads to be taking such risks.

Howe has done enough, over the course of three seasons in the Premier League, to get his chance to take on a bigger job. He's young but will have the knowledge and experience to know what it takes to win matches in this League, with the added bonus of having better players at his disposal. He certainly knew the enough when he took three points from us at the Bridge. Whether he get's the respect from the players because of his 'lowly upbringing' is anybody's guess, but I would consider him less of a risk than Sarri.

Sorry, but exactly what has he done in three seasons in the Premier League?  Honestly, I am interested, because I've seen very little, but am obviously missing something important

Every summer we sign a left-back and every other summer we sign a manager. It's what summers are all about. Personally I find it all rather exciting.

Will he be Italian? Probably. Will he be fat and Spanish? There are so many permutations. It makes the summer so much more enticing. He could be English. Okay I suppose not. He could be Portuguese or Brazilian. That would be different. It's ages since we had one of those. Or what about Israeli? Or am I entering into the realms of fantasy?

I just don't know how anyone could ever get bored of it. The sooner we appoint the next manager the better. Then we can all move on to guessing the identity of his successor.

Not that I want Howe, but what do you expect him to do at Bournemouth? CHallenge for europe? Win the FA cup? He's doing basically the best he can with the club he's managing. Unless he moves to a bigger team, with better players and finances, he's unlikely to ever win anything, but he won't be considered for a bgiger club, because he hasn#t won anything. These younger English managers really don't stand much of a chance. Same goes for Dyche at Burnley, and he's done arguably better than Howe.

Some developments..

Maurizio Sarri is determined to remain at Napoli, and talks will resume tomorrow. The club have offered him a deal worth up to €4m-a-year (€3.5m + bonuses). [Calciomercato]

Simon Phillips

“On Managers, with Sarri likely to stay at Napoli, as I reported last week.

All I know is that a few candidates have been spoken to by the club, only ones I know for sure are Laurent Blanc and Leonardo Jardim. Others say Pochettino has been spoken to as well.”

On Enrique being the favourite-

“No. I said he is the preferred choice of Roman, which he is. They spoke, but Enrique wants high wages and Chelsea are unsure. Doesn’t mean they won’t still end up with him, nothing’s cut and dry. “

DOn't know anything about Blanc as a manager, is he any good? I know he won 3 titles with PSG, but David Moyes would win that league with PSG.

So it’s looking like it’s realistically it’s out of these 3:

- Enrique

- Jardim

- Blanc

Jardim would probably get my vote. I would prob take Blanc over Enrique as well

Il be disappointed to miss out on sarri. Just hope we get the manager situation sorted out asap so we don't get left behind in the transfer market.

I don't have much faith that the club will have a good summer. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.

Yeah, Enrique rumors heating up.. But this paragraph was the most interesting for me:

"With the Paris Saint-Germain job going to Thomas Tuchel and Max Allegri and Sarri potentially staying at Juventus and Napoli, there is an increasing fear that Conte could take a year off and collect his full compensation."

Does the club really fear this could turn into another Costa situation but with Conte this time? I knew our club is in shambles atm but this will be a new low.

Not exciting at all.

At least when we got Conte, a lot of people were saying he’s an incredible manager. Sorry but Enrique, Jardim, Sarri and Blanc doesn’t fill me with excitement at all.

Pochettino please.

Not sure why you're asking for Pochettino.  Right now, it's a step down for him (oh yes, it is, no matter what we like to think, but hopefully won't be for long) and b) He's said several times, clearly, he would never leave the spuds for their rivals (i.e Arsenal, Chelsea).  Move on.

Enrique won't last more than 1 season at Chelsea. 2 seasons at the absolute max. It's not hard to win La Liga or the CL when you're coaching Barca. Look at his time at Roma for a proper assessment of what his football is like.

Maybe Conte should stay and focus on re-building the team more with less pressure. A long term manager would be able to try to put in the youth talents as well. But it does sound like Conte is leaving and Morata as well.
Conte did win the title in his first season with 30 wins in the league though and we have gone to FA Cup Final twice in a row, it's maybe not the end of the world that this season ended like it did.

Otherwise if he was to get kicked out, it would be amazing to get Diego Simeone, who knows if Courtois still wants to leave maybe we can land Oblak that would be happy to follow Simeone...

Yeah it is a shame it looks like he’s leaving as he has done a great job. Unfortunately it looks like his relationship with the board and key people is broken.
