Plenty of talk of ‘another famous night of Anfield magic under the lights incoming’. It’s a myth tbh, I remember earlier this season when PSG fans outsung them there, even though they were losing and massively outnumbered.

It's been a myth for like 10 f**king years, yet they keep saying it.

It's wrong to give van dijk sole credit for this...people forget the keeper that also arrived, the full backs are superb, beforehand he got injured, Gomez was a brilliant partner at the back...plus Liverpool have played far more defensively than last season. I don't deny van dijk has had a very good season, but that wasn't the point I was making.

All anyone talks about in terms of Liverpool's improvement is van dijk...that's not a fair reflection of what's happened there this season...I have seen many Liverpool games where he has made errors but they're never flagged up because it isn't in the script that he has singlehandedly saved Liverpool.

everything about Liverpool always has to be hyped up...best fans, best club, all season we've heard chat he's best defender in the world...if he'd ended up at chelsea as Conte wanted, there's no way he'd get such acclaim - instead his every mistake would have been scrutinised like all our big buys.

Deserves to be in pl team of the year for sure, but not player of the season for me.

Thanks Virgil for proving my point so quickly...at fault for the first two goals in the camp nou...admired the way you watched suarez run past you to score the first and be totally out of position for the second...

Not so sure he was at fault for the first two goals, when you slide tackle a player from behind who's running towards your own goal you always run the risk of causing even more problems. That's what Fabinho did, but it's hard to criticise him there also, after all he did tackle Messi... But he could be blamed for the 3rd goal, which was the free kick he gave away.

The first chance it's difficult to really blame any of the two centrebacks, but if you were to, you would blame Matip for not intercepting the cross in time, Suarez got in the middle and got on the end of a fantastic ball from Alba. If I were to blame anyone for that, it would be the right-hand side, that's where so many problems came from.

But Barcelona were having a field day with that defence, they should've scored more, they kept breaking through the midfield and the final ball was just always off. That was far from one of Messi's best games, that's just how good he is, he was very sloppy in that game.

Oh boy, how much did I enjoy that match...

Was dreading the thought of a Spurs vs Pool final. But could end up being an Ajax vs Barcelona final! :nana1:

I couldn't bear anything other than an Ajax v Barcelona Final to be honest.

In the words of the Beatles. "Let It Be, Let It Be !"

Surprised Firminho wasn't introduced until 79 and thought Milner was lucky not to get a yellow for his shoulder charge on Messi.

Think Klopp got his tactics wrong, Salah seemed such a peripheral figure.

Think Liverpool are out, wouldn't be surprised if they got a home victory yet think Barca will score regardless.

Klopp said in 2015 when he was first appointed that he promises to win Liverpool a trophy by 2019.

Oh that's so amazing, how wonderful would it be if Liverpool just happens to go trophyless again?

Lineker has gone up in my estimation for that celebration. Although he may be out of a job at Liverpool BT TV!

On a somewhat unrelated note, Mark Lawrenson did an 'AMA' on Reddit recently (essentially a public forum where he can be asked anything). He had as much of a sense of humour as you could have reasonably expected out of Mark Lawrenson:

In response to the question "Why are so many pundits ex-Liverpool players?" he said this:

Good question. I think it's because we won every trophy going - so we were always doing interviews. People knew we could speak semi-coherently. We all talk sh*te anyway.

McManaman couldn't be more biased... Fancy getting an ex Liverpool & Madrid player to commentate on that game, you could hear him sighing every time Liverpool gave away the ball. I understand Barcelona are awful with their play acting, we of all people know how bad they are for it, but Salah dived in his own box, Robertson elbowed Suarez in the face on the sly, Fabinho was consistently fouling their players and you didn't hear any criticism from McManaman.

Oh yes.

Again in the words of The Beatles. "Let It Be". "Let It Be "

Looks like it could well be us v Gooners in Europa Final. They really haven't been all that this season but the one obvious difference is that they have not just one but two half-decent strikers. If we had just one of them instead of what we have had to put up with as strikers, we would be in a much better position. So frustrating.

I think it would be better if we could meet Valencia rather than Arsenal, not in our hands though.
