July 26, 20187 yr Looks like a decent free transfer. One year deal, homegrown player, and I'd say a good upgrade on our recent backup 'keepers. Brings a lot of experience that our younger goalkeepers can benefit from too, hopefully he can work well with whoever our number 1 is next season.
July 26, 20187 yr Welcome to the club Rob! I don't expect to ever see him actually play, but decent 3rd choice none the same.
July 26, 20187 yr 3rd choice goalkeeper. A license to earn free money, without having to ever play a game for us. Sigh.

That could apply to 3rd choice keepers at every PL club. Green isn’t a lot older than Eduardo who made one PL 2 appearance but unlike Eduardo he doesn’t restrict squad size by occupying one of the non HG berths. Peolpe can ridicule but this clearly smacks of someone doing the numbers and even possibly thinking about probable long distance group EL games where the established number 2 starts and the number 1 doesn’t even travel.

Yes but as they are all under 21 they don’t need to be named in what most people refer to as the PL squad. It would make no sense having an academy player as the recognised number 3 as they would still have to be at every 1 st game be it home or away and that would inevitably restrict the number of times they would get to play for the Under 23s or indeed the under 18s.its possible you could rotate say Thomson and Bulka but they are both incredibly young. i am not sure why so much fuss is being made for we are talking about a player who has been signed but is unlikely ever to play but is in situ just in case
July 26, 20187 yr oh my how this club has fallen from grace (seriously I get it because he's homegrown but I prefer to smoke that stuff)
July 26, 20187 yr I get the homegrown part, but why do we need a 3rd choice keeper who is not from the academy? If both 1st and 2nd choice keepers were injured I would be fine to trust in the best option from the academy.

It’s worth reflecting back over the years , well certainly in the RA era and in particular in the seasons we won the PL , and look who the 3rd choice keepers were. Despite the massive spend and indeed the World class players that were bought in both in 2004/5& 5/6 the third choice keeper was Lenny Pidley , remember him? Lenny was at the club, was HG and made in total two appearances one as a sub.We also had another keeper registered in 2004/5 someone called Yves Ma- Kalamby On to 2009/10 Ross Turnball was our number 2, yes number 2, and Hilario was our number 3. Hilario was meant to be a clown but when he had to play, which he did on 20 occasions, he wasn’t quite the clown he was meant to be. Next 14/15. I’d forgotten that Jamal Blackman who by then has graduated from the academy was named in the 25 man squad as number 3.Jamal still hasn’t played for the first team at Chelsea. Finally the 2016/17 squad saw Eduardo as number 3 again another number 3 who never played for the first team. Sort of puts the Green signing in perspective doesn’t it!

All speculation. Even speculating that Sarri is fine with it. 13 hours ago, General said: oh my how this club has fallen from grace (seriously I get it because he's homegrown but I prefer to smoke that stuff) Bring back the good ol days of Ross Turnbull.

There is no source, no quote in fact nothing to suggest it’s anything other than the journalist putting 2+2 add coming out with 5. Irrespective let’s just assume the article is correct and Sarri accepts that a 3rd choice is there highly unlikely ever to play but a coach is surprised about the signing hardly earth shattering is it.
