We've got a new Kepa

I think we'd all had enough of Courtois who never turned out to be as good as we'd hoped (or he thought he was).

But so far, although Kepa seems a really decent guy and he's made some good saves and distributes the ball a LOT better, I have to be honest and say I don't see a £70M keeper - not yet anyway. Just like your striker, a keeper can win you games and he really can't afford too many repeats of that howler last night.

I disagree with you Nibs. It was hardly a howler. Maybe he should have saved it, yes, but a howler? No. Alisson yesterday was a howler. That's a howler, in case you're wondering what a howler looks like. Wolves' first goal was from close range, hard and low. He could have done better. There are going to be goals where the keeper could have done better, but a howler? You're being harsh.

Kepa's been excellent in my opinion. World record transfer, new country, the Prem's a lot more physical and he's young. I think we've signed a very good keeper. The signs are very very good. There'll be a lot more to come. I think we all have to be very encouraged. It's a big move for him and he's taken it in his stride.

He's gone under the radar a little bit, maybe because of Allison, but he looks a very safe pair of hands, very agile, calm, confident, excellent with his feet, even if he has misplaced the odd pass, that's always going to happen the way he is being asked to play.

Courtois underwhelmed me, given his reputation, although he was undoubtedly a top keeper he was never quite as good as I'd have hoped. He was terrible with his feet. His biggest strength for me was in the air and this is Kepa's weakness, given he is quite small and fairly slight in frame, but as he gets used to the Prem he'll improve.

Edit: I'd rather he was a bit taller but there you go, you can't have everything. I like him. I like him a lot.

The media would of been licking their lips at making kepa a scapegoat, Allison plays for the victims, so he was always going to get an easy ride, but Kepa has gone under the radar because he has been consistent, look at Lori's probably one of the most overrated keepers who makes mistake after mistake in games and big games at that, but plays for Spurs so gets an easy ride

See people always look at the price. The thing is, we sold Courtois for him, so we didn't pay a straight fee for him. Taking the sale of Courtois into account, we actually paid £40m for him, plus Kovacic on a loan.

So what? And btw nobody is looking at the price, as it was stated above, he is under the radar for now.

But does he concede silly goals, that he, hopefully, can save? Hell yes, he does.

Conceded one goal that he could have done better with. Best throw him in the bin with Dave then

He has been one of the best young keepers in Europe for a couple years now. He was wanted by Real Madrid, but Atletico Bilbao didn't want to sell at the time. He also has made some fantastic saves that have saved us from conceding. He is still young and two years behind his development as opposed to Alisson. De Gea makes mistakes, as does Ederson for City, as does Neuer, as do every other top keeper out there. No player is perfect all the time. He, along with his teammates, are learning a new system. Once he settles in for a season in a new league, he'll get better.

Think he’s settled into the league better than some young goalkeepers have in the past. De Gea looked awful dealing with crosses when he first joined United and they used to rotate his game time to help him settle in.

Solid if unspectacular from Kepa so far.

I think the settling thing is blown out of proportion because of DDG's struggles. Cech, Reina, Courtois, Kepa, Alison and Ederson all arrived in England and were effective immediately.

Nope, it was like 10 goals he could have saved. Something like that. the clips are above, you can argue one by one.

I can't say anything against that rant mainly because I wasn't upset about "mistakes", neither I'm denying any of what you've said. I was upset about his goal stopping incapability. He does not make saves. He concedes goals due to that absence. that's it. Simple and yet people cannot accept it and they change the narrative.

I don’t intend to ‘argue’ one by one your precious little videos. I’ve been stood behind him, in the flesh, seeing what he brings to the team and seeing him win us points when Luiz’ brain goes wondering or Alonso forgets he’s a defender.

A goalkeeper will never save every shot. They won’t always be perfect. A goalkeeper will never be beaten solely by worldies. They’ll make mistakes. They’re human beings not robots.

I’d take Kepa all day long over the likes of Courtois, Willy or Rob Green.

Isn't this the same numpty who claimed azpilacueta shouldn't be captain because he isn't respectable after he claimed a throw in that wasn't ours? I think he's either on a wind up or a bit hard of thinking.

It’s better not to argue with someone who blames Azpi for being Spaniard. He seems to believe that our Spanish players have an agenda to destroy Chelsea or something like that... :face_palm:

Really? You may want to tell Saido Mane, Callum Chambers, Michail Antonio, Nathan Redmond and Istvan Kovacs that as none of them got given the memo.

Indeed it is hence I’m not bothering to argue my points as a brick wall would provide better opinions. You know what they say about arguing with idiots, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

He's not been a 70million keeper yet but I don't think the club expected him to be off the bat.  I think in the context he is progressing well and before I ever saw him play I figured give him a season minimum before judging too harshly (provided he's not absolute crap) as I recall DeGea being disappointing in his first season but being absolutely brilliant ever since (and I think he was a more mature keeper than Kepa when he first went to MUFC).

So not yet a 70million keeper but one I have faith in that he will hit those levels in the near future.  When you consider the potential it's definitely an upgrade from a year ago in my opinion.

You damn right he doesn't deserve. He even adds new things to his arsenal - claiming for throws before even the ball leaves the pitch. Such a terrible behaviour.

I hope Kepa has some dignity and doesn't act like a fool. But he also left a bad taste on Sunday when wasting time, the ref ran towards him to book him and then he kicked the ball in front of his face and earned probably 20 or 30 more seconds.

there is something wrong with these basques.

Well, this numpty is now on to the basques, first it was that Azpi treated Morata and Alonso better than other team mates because they are spaniards, now it is the basques, he's got some kind of phobia restricted to the Iberian peninsula.

Every team wastes time and claims throw ins that are not theirs to claim, it's the way the game is played, you try to get everything you can for the team to win.

Every time I think I've discovered the most braindead post on this forum, a new one appears to snatch away that title.

Must be feeling good to insult people in different opinion, I don't know how the plebs is thinking exactly. But  I'm open-minded so I'm  going to tell you something even better - winning a dispute without even the sign of slight desire of the opposition to argue.

And yes, the claims, the wasted time, the dives - 90 percents of this "get everything you can to hfor the team to win" come with the latin players and the spaniards precisely.

So not only are you an idiot you are also a disgusting Xenophobe. Where are you from exactly?

What is wrong with 'get everything you can for the team to win'?

It's football at the end of the day, there are far far more unsporting things that happen than shouting for decisions. Diving, shirt pulling, systematic fouling, pinching etc.

You use xenophobic language, and then have audacity to feel insulted about such a baseless argument.

You have some strange views, and you express them terribly.
