Sarriball needs a plan a.1

No they don't understand Sarri's system, and unfortunately neither do you. There are a ton of you tube clips on here of Sarri's Napoli, showing how integral Jorginho is to the system, yet you would rather criticise our manager after one defeat. Speaks volumes for me.

That's a fair point but on the other hand it wasn't just any old defeat. We were given a lesson in football by one of our bitterest rivals and but for iffy finishing and some decent saves by Kepa, we would have conceded double what we did.

It is still early days and after such a poor performance you would expect Sarri (and Zola and co) to be working on it so we don't get a repeat. No-one is calling for Sarri's head but I think supporters are right to question things. Kante has arguably been one of the PL top performers for the last 4 seasons playing where and how he did and Jorginho is still new to the PL with a lot to learn. The Spurs game wasn't a one-off, he was poor against Everton too so what happens if this continues game after game? All well and good saying he is integral to Sarri's system but if the opposition continue to nullify him, Sarri will HAVE to think again.

Understand what you are saying in regards to losing to Spurs, in the manner we did. However for someone to say "get rid of" Jorginho after one defeat is ridiculous. The team as whole are not following Sarri's instructions in regards to pressing and movement. To pin a poor team performance on one player is an incorrect analysis IMO.

In regards to Sarri, I think he has made it clear he won't change, the team needs to adapt to his system. One defeat in 18 matches, and the manager is now being questioned tactically. Patience is what is required when we are changing our style of play, not this type of meltdown from some posters.

  • Its rather arrogant to say that about top internatioal footballers!  And yet again, i am not interested in flipping Napoli and the slow, boring Italian league and i have been  having a go about the glaring weaknesses in Jorginho and our midfield for a couple of months now. Its not a kneejerk reaction to one bad game. Oh, and btw, i was going to Chelsea games when we really sh*t and 20 mins away from going in to division 3.

Calm down mate, you'll give yourself a coronary.

In regards to you "going to Chelsea when we were really sh*t"....your Blue Peter Badge is in the post. And just for the record, my first match my old man took me to was in the 69/70 season, however I don't use that as a barometer to measure my loyalty for Chelsea or to gain an advantage in a discussion, because it is simply childish.

It's a bit feeble and pathetic to try and win an argument on here by name dropping a couple of Z-list pundits who may/may not share a similar view to you.

Almost as if you are just repeating something you have overheard, but are running out of steam when you have to argue the point on your own.

All I get from your posts is rather obvious points (Kante is world class and players his usual position is a defensive midfield role, for example) that everyone else already knows (Sarri included), but everyone else is looking at the bigger picture and applying context/patience/common sense. You can repeat yourself as many times as you like (which you have been doing), but whilst others continue to apply context/patience/common sense your opinion is going to continue to get overlooked and dismissed.

I think you need to try and open up your imagination a bit, and perhaps learn a bit more about what Sarri is trying to do.

Also, refresh your memory on how Pep did in his first season with City whilst implementing a new philosophy (with the best squad in the league and a blank chequebook)

Finally, remember how we did last season, and how bad some of the results were; losing 4-1 to Watford for example (with Kante in his traditional defensive midfield role no less).

Dixon has been against Jorginho from the start after hearing those comments from that numpty Stewart Robson

I mentioned that because you sided with that poster who continually doubts that I'm even a Chelsea fan. For no reason other than that.

Look. I like Sari as a bloke and he promised he'd bring us entertaining football, which is always important to me. The fact is he's an elderly manager who's never won anything, so its not like he's been a proven great. I don't care about what system he plays. All I can see is that the midfield trio of Jorginho, Kante and Kova is a very poor mix. I'm not asking for Sari to go now, all I'm saying is if he sticks with this three he will go as they will never get us where we want to be, which is obviously challenging for the title and CL again.

No, I was saying the same thing before Lineker and Sheerer said. And who are you to call them Z listers? People who have actually worked in the profession all their lives being dissed by people who couldn't run a pub team. Laughable and so artogant! They've forgot more about football than all of us on here will ever know!

I do not need any pro to tell me that Jorginho is desperately slow and couldn't defend if his life depended on it. And don't give me this crap about he's not there to defend. He tried it again on Saturday but was so inept it was  hardly recognisable as defending.

Newcastle played worse than a pub team when Shearer was manager. So it's hardly surprising @mclovin83 refers to him as a Z lister.

It's not really Napoli that is bad, nor Jorginho. Napoli is playing Champions League and they were the second team in Serie A. I wouldn't blame the player here, he is actually doing everything that the manager wants him to do.

And yet you feel you can question Sarri who is a manager of a professional football team, you tedious hypocrite.

Does tickle I, this bloke.  Been a fan since 1905, been to every match, home and away, yet has the football knowledge of a mushroom, seems to get his opinions from MoTD and Sky Sports pundits, and has waaay too strong a liking for everything City for me.  Pops up as a member in May, and spend the next few months pontificating about how he knows exactly what's wrong with the team and the manager going 18 matches or whatever it is unbeaten.

If I wasn't such a nice person, I'd say he was a prick, but I am too nice for that, so I'll just say he's a tad misguided.  But, if Bluemoon should call to say they are missing their idiot, we'll know what to tell them.

I think a large part of the problem of interpreting the way Sarri has set the side up is a lack of understanding of what Jorginho actually does. (And for what it's worth I was equally guilty of expecting this following his signing).

Based on what I've heard/read, I think that a lot of people basically expect Jorginho to be Xabi Alonso, or maybe a more dynamic Fabregas. What Jorginho actually does is more akin to a John Obi Mikel with a faster mind, faster feet, but a mere fraction of the defensive instinct. His natural passing game is nowhere near as direct as the former two.

This isn't necessarily a problem. A team which is built around keeping the ball will probably need a player like that. It can and will work if we are able to come up with a gameplan which mitigates what are some quite glaring weaknesses. The problem we currently have is that (as it stands) we have a manager who is either unable to do that, or worse, is stubbornly refusing to do that. Even players as gifted as say, Busquets or Modric would struggle given the lack of support the current back five/six receive.

You also have to question whether Jorginho's poor defensive form is a result of the player's innate inability to defend (see: Mata, Fabregas), or whether it's due to him faithfully (even competently) executing the instructions he is receiving from his manager. Look at the difference between Willian's defensive contribution as a Sarri player and as a Mourinho player; look at the difference between Coutinho's as a Rodgers player and as a Klopp player.

It will be interesting to see how Sarri reacts to this (and he absolutely has to make some sort of change, however minor). That said, considering the noises he's been making this week, I have to say that the early signs are not good.

Lol reminds me when Pep came to City in the first season and the media, oppo fans etc were all saying "it's not going to work in the PL" or after a few poor results it was "this is the PL, you need to adapt, blah, blah" and now look at them. Smashed the records last season and cruised the league and now they're looking fantastic again this season. Top notch signings have helped a lot with that system too, but a lot of people seem to think they know it all when it comes to the PL and how much better they think it is than other leagues. It surprises me that people see what Pep has done and still go back to the narrative that managers have to play and adapt a certain way to succeed in the PL like this league is tactically superior to La Liga or Serie A for e.g.

Great. Now I'm wondering how much or how little football knowledge a mushroom has.

BTW Am I the only one who hopes very much that Sarri gets the time and the players to get his football philosophy rolling? I'm already having more fun this season than last season, despite last weekend's defeat.

Thers no way in hell Pep would have done so much damage if he hadnt spent immense amount of Cash on proper quality players.........his defence alone costed over 250M........it not a coincidence after he got those players they were flying. As good as he is, untold Cash helps alot.

No your not, for years our fans have been desperate for us to bring in a manager to change our style of play. Now we have one it's embarrassing how little patience some of them have, even after we lost our first game of the season in the last week of November. By all means question things when we play poorly, but calling for him to change the style or dump players is ridiculous.

Read the arse's posts, Val.  That will explain everything, and, once you have stopped rolling on the floor laughing, it will become clear.

And No, you're not the only one.  But some tits in here have all the patience of your pussy at half-past tea-time.

I mean, that's fair, but plenty managers/clubs spend 200m on players but don't do what City have done. They are on course to win a 2nd title in 2 seasons. We've spent about a fair amount of money, but it's been wasted on average players or players we don't even use. Drinkwater (£30m), Bakayoko (£40m), Zappacosta (£20m), Morata (£60m), Giroud (£18m), Batshuayi (£33m). None of those players are game changers.

Compare those to the City signings for similar fees:

Gabriel Jesus (£28m)

Leroy Sane (£45m)

Raheem Sterling (£57m)

Those are all arguably game changers.

Most def my friend........they identify the target and bang go for the kill. Not dilly dally....no hassle over 2M etc. They get Young quality players that not only improve first 11, but as you said can change a game if subbed in. They have backed pep with his targets..........sure they have spent so so much but the point is still relevant. We have wasted 225M on Morata, Baka, Drinky, Bats, Emerson and Zappa........horrible horrible piece of transfers......incompetent imo.

You actually have called me a prick, not that I give a toss what you think of me. You sound like an old, fat headhunter who can now only get his kicks from dishing it out on a fan forum..

You see, others have disagreed with me ( some are in some kind of agreement too)  but do so in a reasonanbe manner without resorting to abuse.  I've been given   a headsup about members being driven away from here by bullies and Its pretty clear already who some of them are.

Carry on wasting your time trolling and abusing. I'll just get  on with saying what I want when I want, as one is supposed to doors on a forum.

There is a clear difference there, you see Man City have been buying attacking players while still keeping the quality attackers in the team, look at the names you compare here, all attackers to help out Aguero vs 2 bench warmers Giroud and Morata while at the same time we lost a 20 goal per season Costa!

Things that Man City is doing not even Real Madrid does nowadays.

Also Man city spent £200m+ on defense as well, and then just cause they can they signed Mahrez as well cause why the fu** not since Pep got bored of his £45m Bernardo in the meantime...

So OK 2 league titles in the last 3 years in the making, big deal that result is pretty expected, but WE GOT 2 IN THE LAST 4-5 YEARS how is that not impressive?
