That Sterling Incident

As an Irish fella, the word c**t is just something a lot of us just use so casually, when i'm greeting mates 'alright c**t' or when someone does something stupid, 'you're some c**t'

If i was in america or something though i'd expect people to get extremely offended, but horses for courses

When i was a teen watching American programmes, i was shocked when they used the word spunk casually in conversation.

My uncle coaches in California, I went over a few times in the summer holidays to help on the 'soccer camp's, and was shocked that they used the term 'shag the balls' meaning collect the balls.

The c__t word is not really used much in the US as a way to express oneself in a mean way to another person.

Never heard the word come from an American.

I have, but it certainly wasn't in a jovial way. I feel like it just carries more weight there as an offensive word.

I read Suggs’s book a while back- he’s a Chelsea fan btw.

His Mum was a singer, who used to take him along to various Soho dives when she was performing as a small kid. At the Colony Rooms, the female proprietor affectionately called Suggs “ Little cxnty”

Loveley!

That's because they can't pronounce it properly. I don't know what's funnier, the weird 'er' vowel sound they make instead of a '^' or even a 'æ' (the latter especially in London), or the hard 't' they use at the end.

If anyone can find a clip of that bit in American Beauty when the blonde girl calls somebody or other a c**t, it is the perfect example of the terrible American pronunciation of the word. (I'd look myself but it doesn't seem like the kind of thing I want in my work search history).

Saw this online...

Chelsea have themselves drafted in lip-reading experts to help them analyse the footage and are passing on their evidence to police, which is expected to form part of the investigation. Police are also thought to be using their own lip-readers.

Forensic speechreading company 121 Captions have worked with the Metropolitan Police, Crown Prosecution Service and The National Crime Agency.

After watching the footage, one of their experts said Colin shouted "you f***ing Manc c***, f*** you, you d***head" at Sterling.

Another expert, Terry Ruane, who has helped police investigations by examining CCTV footage for clues, watched the clip at least 20 times.

"The only way to distinguish between ‘black’ and ‘Manc’ is if you see the tongue movement in ‘black’.

"I have reviewed this at least 20 times and I just can’t catch the tongue which would prove he definitely did say ‘black’."

"My feeling is he did indeed say ‘f***ing Manc c***’ – however ‘Manc’ is said in such an offensive way that makes it almost look like ‘w***’.

“Additionally, I don’t think anybody who isn’t an experienced lip-reader would think there was a similarity between ‘black’ and ‘Manc’.

“So it is quite possible that he did genuinely say ‘Manc’."

i was a few rows behind.

Hi all, Needed to sign up and post this:

I tried to get some lip readers responding on twitter to come forward, hopefully they did.

My gf from SA and we are disgusted with the trial by media.

Its utterly trivialises these issues when serious allegations are made.

Im white and my family and me all redheads (get sh*t everywhere i go, Bloody romans!) but see all forms of racial/sexual etc hate daily on the streets, Mostly not a big deal but when it is, People will shrug it off and probably point to stuff like this if what the multiple lip pros have said is true.

Sterling with his gun tattoo and totally unclear statements are shameful.  My gramps my dad all my greats served mostly RAF and as Specials, NONE have fekin gun tattoos!

He didn't even flinch or look

Lip readers ive spoken to say its definitely manc

however i'm waiting to see what happens before i get the knife out so to speak!

I have known so many 'that's racist' card players, Many Africans/black brits i know without a chip on their shoulder agree because as I said it de-legitimises the issue completely.

We HAVE got to be so careful here and yet I see trial by media and esp twitter.

lip readers even black friends being called racist by angry twitter mobs, Saying other minorities owe them (blk community) for this and that..

I'm 30 and I think this recent PC/SJW cult like stuff is completely ruining free speech and causing division. ive seen it everywhere, its sketchy stuff.

Also Rio F mr cho*ice do me a favourrr couldn't believe that!

cheers

“Antisemitism and any other kind of race-related or religious hatred is abhorrent to this club and the overwhelming majority of our fans. It has no place at Chelsea or in any of our communities.

"We have stated this loud and clear on many occasions from the owner, the board, coaches and players.

“Any individuals that can’t summon the brainpower to comprehend this simple message and are found to have shamed the club by using antisemitic or racist words or actions will face the strongest possible action from the club.”

They're certainly not perfect by any means and still have a long way to go but you'd be surprised the measures the Russian government are taking to eradicate racism. The intent is there but just like in this country it doesn't stop overnight. If you think differently sorry mate but you're part of the problem.

I think you should be banned for using the word "psycho". My grandpa was a sociopath and he was sent in concenration camp for mental sickness.

Is this not the same criteria?

Your picture - is that your Grandfather?

How is that ironic exactly?

Here we go again. As I predicted the “ In the wake of the Sterling Race Storm” headlines are with us once more.

You didn’t have to be Russel Grant to see it coming.

What next “ Police and the National Crime Squad have attested and charged a Chelsea fan for inciting racial hatred. It is alleged that he was whistling to the tune of WE HATE TOTTENHAM, whilst luxuriating in the bath”

It's a bit depressing

It's a song we've sung for years, one of our main songs. We've tried to stamp it out but it's difficult when Tottenham get a free pass so call themselves the y*d army every week (and seemingly a free pass to throw bananas at black players too).

Chelsea fans aren't racist, just tribal. By all accounts - and it will never be fully reported, the fan did say manc.

What song was it that has kicked up a fuss last night?

I saw that bellend, Dan Levene, making all kinds of claims about the disgusting racism from the Chelsea fans. Then all the actual match going fans i know there saying there was nothing outside of the usual.

Ridiculous if this is all from an anti-Tottenham song (i imagine it is). Don't think i've ever even met a Spurs fan that takes genuine offence at the word.

Complains about political correctness and social justice warriors.

Is offended by a tattoo.
