January 14, 20206 yr Carlton Cole! Gee in 2002 I thought he was going to be the next big thing. Curse Roman for buying all those top class strikers. On a more serious note, one player who has only six months left on his contract and is available is Edinson Cavani. I think he would be a very shrewd purchase. Still a top class player, who would teach Tammy but also push him to be better through competition. Crucially he gives us the option of playing of playing two up top (maybe in a diamond). I've always thought we don't make enough of the free transfer (or close to free transfer market). Marotta is the master of it. He rebuilt Juve using that approach and is now doing it again at Inter. Quite a few good ones available this summer too.

I think Cavani would be a useful addition though I have rarely seen him lead the line like Tammy does.

I do recall him being a bit older than Carlton. He must have only been 18 when he played here.
January 14, 20206 yr Especially for the old skool, heard club in talks with Dave Mitchell about coming back (you youngsters might want to Google him, not sure if any highlights on face tube, mind you he didn't have any highlights)

Cavani won't leave PSG until the summer & he already has come to terms with Atleti ps...look at the date of the tweet

Just on Cavani I didn't think a deal had been agreed with PSG yet for him to leave in Jan. Twitter also thinks we've come to terms with Dembele. Not gospel. We may have missed the boat but I think he's worth a shout for us. The othee options are a bit sparse.

My earliest memory of Chelsea is Lebeouf, Vialli, Zola, Dennis Wise, Gullit, Petrescu etc. Think it was 96 I started following Chelsea.
January 29, 20206 yr Inter wants Giroud for free in July AND Spurs wants him apparently, they are offering a one and a half year contract ? Edited January 29, 20206 yr by DidierDrogbalala

Inter more certain to take a striker this winter. The Lombard club asked Olivier #Giroud to wait for a contract for June, but Tottenham offers the Frenchman a year and a half contract. Mourinho wants to recruit him now Translation for everyone. Edited January 29, 20206 yr by RIP Mourinho
January 29, 20206 yr It will be a shame when Giroud leaves as he still has plenty to offer. It's good for the youngsters to have a seasoned international to learn from, even if he isn't starting every game. What I like best about him is how unselfish he is in the final third. He'll always look for a teammate isn't the box if they're in a better goalscoring position.
January 29, 20206 yr I am still struggling to understand why a player with a decent Club record and an exceptional France career, cannot be adapted to work for Chelsea. I would rather keep him than let him go to Spuds. Levy would NEVER let a player come to us without a huge fee, so if he has to leave it MUST only be to Inter.

It's a shame and I guess a personality clash with Frank. Re Arsenal that would be unusual even with coming from Chelsea, I can only remember Campbell moving between the two.

A very small part of me suspects it’s because Lampard sees him as Arsenal. Unlikely I know but he’s much better than Bats.

I doubt that, given his freindship with Ash (not to mention where Frank himself started off) he of all people will know things can change. Any doubts about Oli's allegiances was cast aside in Baku when he lifted the Europa shouting "thankyou Arsenal". I think it's just a mix of that he's lost his legs and doesn't suit this style of play. Edited January 29, 20206 yr by Argo

January 29, 20206 yr If Spurs want Giroud we should offer them a swap deal with Kane. Tammy needs an understudy.
January 29, 20206 yr I’d rather clean the bogs at Cobham with my toothbrush than play for that shower...
January 30, 20206 yr Lazio have already reached an agreement with Chelsea for the transfer of Giroud but everything depends on Mertens. If Napoli allow Mertens to join Chelsea, then Giroud will go to Lazio [DiMarzio]
