Olivier Giroud

Cannot even make it ahead of Batman who is bloody hopeless. We do not need to sign a replacement first, just let the man go he has served us well and been a complete professional. He deserves to be treated better.

It would be hypocritical of me to say he should've played today, because I said I don't want to see him play again after that horrible West Ham game.

Realistically we need to get rid of both of them and quickly, just one replacement will do.

Apparently we want 10m from Inter Milan which sounds about right.

Considering we paid £12m a couple of years back, I would say that is quite high. Given his age, I would say £5m would be more right.

I wouldn’t fancy negotiating with Marina though.

Does the imminent departure of Giroud signal we may have secured back up?

Probably not, he's barely played as it is, signalling that we don't need a 3rd striker. We need an upgrade on Michy aswell though, I would take a younger and fit Giroud over Michy anyday, I don't think Michy has ever really been Chelsea material.

No way we stick with 2 strikers when the back up isn’t producing there’s not a chance we sell Giroud and don’t bring someone in

How many quality strikers can we sign if they know they are not even fighting for a place the starting XI but only for the position of 1st backup?

Issue I have with this is Giroud hardly played any minutes, we don’t need 3 forwards when we only play 1 upfront. It is a waste of resources.

Agreed. Since the Anelka- Drogba combo we haven't really had a pair of strikers capable of playing together.

I'd like to see us buy a player who complements Tammy's strengths and can either play with him or instead of him.

Still unsure how Giroud has slipped to third in the pecking order though. He has just about started one game against Liverpool in the Super Cup and he scored.

Thats why i would like to see werner, he has been use with poulson quite a bit, l so i can see it working.

3 out and out strikers is always going to end with at least 1 unhappy player.

Agree on that. Werner is certainly used to playing in a two and seems to actually struggle with Germany where he has to lead the line alone. I also think he has the kind of characteristics without the ball that are helpful. Leipzig's pressing is I'm sure a model we are trying to emulate.

That said I have a lingering doubt about him. So much of his game is based on his pace and getting in behind. In games where teams sit deep he can drift out of the game a little. I worry that would limit his effectiveness for us.

I share some of your doubts, and coincidentally i had the same doubts about Anelka, as he was very much an in behind kind of striker, when we were so used to having Drogba.

I havent seen much of werner for germany since the last world cup, where he was poor in a poor Germany side.

Im just a big advocate for bringing in a versatile forward. I wanted us to go for firmino at hoffenheim aswell.

I think it is very difficult to keep 2 out and out strikers sharp. Im a firm believer in keeping strukers in the side if they are scoring goals, i dont think its healthy to rotate them regularly. Taking them off after 60 mins, when teams when they would fancy themselves scoring against tiring defences, can also have a negative effect.

Werner has some question marks, but he has quality, and as you eluded to, his education at RB would make him a good fit to work under lamps.

Perhaps we are promoting a striker from the academy to replace Giroud, that would make more sense than signing a striker, even though I’d be happy to see Bats dropped to 3rd choice.

Ben Sahar is coming back!
