Big fan of Giroud, top professional and always works hard. Crazy really. But the end state for Frank is he wants to play a higher press. Giroud just doesn't have the pace to lead that without us ending up being cut apart. This season however we have sooo many injuries that we need to do away with the high press and play exactly like we did against Liverpool. In that setting Giroud is perfect and he should play regularly. Michy on the other hand hasn't been liked by any manager since he got here. Conte realised he wasn't a starter from the first preseason game and I've seen nothing to prove him wrong 4 seasons later. His contract must be up soon is it?
March 5, 20206 yr Giroud is a class act. We should be proud of having a player of his professionalism and attitude. He is not the answer to our striking needs but a brilliant backup and a senior player to help the kids.
March 6, 20206 yr Now thinking he might try and get a new deal to stay https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/olivier-giroud-chelsea-uturn-transfer-news-a4380091.html If we bought the players to work around him I wouldn't mind if he stayed. He makes the other players around him better.
March 6, 20206 yr You would be hard pressed to find a better back up striker but I was always under the impression that he was looking to be a starter/more regular play time which is why he left Arsenal.

Don't think he minds being immediate back up, especially at this stage of his career, he left Arsenal because he was being sent to third choice with PEAs arrival.

As soon as he got the chance to leave, he didn’t give it a second thought. I mean, you can’t blame him really can you? Must be awful playing for Arsenal.
March 11, 20206 yr Can't see him getting a new deal, we're not going into the new season with Tammy and Giroud again. We'll be bringing someone new in and that means Giroud would be back to third choice and in the same position as January.
June 22, 20206 yr Good performance against Villa and a nice goal to go with it. Wonder if he starts on Thursday against Manchester City.

For half the match I was crying out for Abraham to be put on. Needless to say I was singing Giroud's praises when he scored Personally I would start Abraham (supported by Pulisic and Willian) against City. Giroud has the experience of being an impact sub.
June 22, 20206 yr He is the biggest professional I've ever seen. Boy, he's been ignored for more than half a decade now and each time he lands on the pitch, he produces super quality performance. What a man. Can't find them kind often anymore.
July 5, 20206 yr Look forward to seeing him link up with our new signings and maybe the wonder kid from Leverkusen.

July 14, 20206 yr Anyone else think that this man should be our nailed on number 9? He's actually scoring quite a bit right now, but even when he's not his hold up play is just ? and the whole attack plays better with him on the pitch. No coincidence he is Frances number 9.

No coincidence he is Frances number 9. you cant rely on him for a whole season, he's done well since the return, but hes not got a whole season of that form in him, never has, he can get away with it for France as they dont play more than half dozen games a year.

Love Giroud - good pro with a great attitude. But as I said in match thread, he has never been Mr prolific. He scores one but you never feel he will add to it. One goal in a game is usually his limit and we need more than that - especially when you have Kovacic and Jorginho in midfield who are as likely to contribute to goals tally as Kepa.

I also don't think he physically could do it anymore, even if he did have the quality. His body won't let him. He could be very handy next season though, and I hope Lampard doesn't freeze him out like he did at the start of season. You won't find many better backup strikers.
July 14, 20206 yr He moves so good that even he is surprised about it, could have hade a hat-trick today if he had put on cologne before game but its ok
July 14, 20206 yr He’s such a classy striker, the way he moves in the box oozes class. Just a shame about his finishing, but I’d be interested to see how he’d work with Werner. Could be a great partnership.

He won't ever again, Lamps wasn't convinced by his lack of pace early on but he knows his quality now, firmly 2nd choice behind Werner for next season, assuming Werner doesn't do a Morata on us.
