I don't really understand why we can't have fans at away games. I imagine the issue is the share of gate receipts. But if we cannot receive any income then why not just allow the home team to keep the proceeds in that case?

Yet another example of how the "it is Chelsea Football Club that invaded Ukraine" narrative has now become 'fact'. I expect that most of the atrocities being carried are actually the work of the Chelsea Headhunters. I expect to see photoshopped images of Hickey atop a Russian tank and calling cards left at bombed hospitals.

I only wish the only person outside the club on our side was anyone other than George Galloway. We might as well be getting messages of support from Roman's mum.

Agreed. Not doing ourselves any favours here.

A stupid move but this is what happens when you push people too far. 

I am not condoning the action taken by the club but people can't expect the club takes all the punishment laying down. It's just sad that fans are the ones caught up in it.

Because the move clearly hamstrings us. The board is desperate for us to earn money in one way or another.

I'm now seriously worried about what other mad moves Bruce Buck and co will do before the club is sold.

The closed doors request and going up against the powers that be and Boro isn't a clever move.

I agree with the club pushing back. If you keep letting people bully you then they will keep stepping on you. They are no longer just punishing Roman but are stepping into football matters now.

Not letting Chelsea fans into Boro hurts Putin in what way? Makes no sense whatsoever and probably not legal either.

Negotiations come when they are from positions of power and we are at our weakest right now. If the club takes the hit again and again, we will lose any leverage on any negotiation. 

This move at least shows the club has some backbone

It has been made pretty clear that we will won't be able to get any income until the ownership change is at least approved. Perhaps the government will be willing to revisit some restrictions once a bid has been accepted and the transition is in place. But until then I don't think they will budge and we probably won't gain anything by complaining either.

We will see that scenario very soon if we get past Lille. Unless something changes the opposition will not be allowed fans at the bridge and that may be problematic for UEFA.

As the saying goes, if you don't try, you fail 100% of the time. It's a gamble and clearly a misdirection by the club, something else is happening behind the scene. 

The move could have been made to avoid trouble. I heard on Sunday of fans going up to Middlesbrough without tickets to try and get one. This is wrong and is calling for trouble, but it is likely happening. The club may be trying to avoid this by asking for the game to be played behind closed doors. But hopefully, our fans with tickets can go and enjoy peacefully another win. What better way to stick it up theirs than by keep winning at football?!

I was thinking about this, have we sold tickets for all champs league games to season ticket holders? Or will the ground be empty?

I believe that that will likely happen against Brentford as I am not sure whether their club had the time to sell the away tickets before the assets were frozen, or that's what I heard on Sunday.

Now that raises even more questions

Chelsea is sanctioned in England, does the sanction hold up in France? Do Lille get their share of income?

I wouldn't have thought so as they usually only get released once we know who we are playing and when and then season ticket holders get the opportunity to purchase their own seat
