March 15, 20224 yr Asking for the Boro game to be played behind closed doors is a crass decision by the club. It's not Boro's fault our situation and you can't deprive fans their biggest game for years because of our misfortune. Presumably we can't sell away tickets from now on so with Arsenal, Brentford and Watford coming up they can't ask for the games to be behind closed doors because they will have no fans in attendance. We are going to see the spirit of the club/team tested on Sunday as apparently it's going to be a long coach journey there and back.

Was listening to Talksport and it seems like we have been asking for the game to be played behind closed doors. Simon Jordan wasn't happy, saying people are look at your club as a pariah, you're a toxic brand. He's saying how are Chelsea requesting it be behind closed doors. The Middlesbrough owner apparently said in a text exchange with Simon Jordan 'sporting integrity and Chelsea don't go together' so rather embarrassing for our club and the board right now. Why we would deny Middlesbrough money I don't know.
March 15, 20224 yr Personally I would just pull out of the FA cup. Other clubs maybe lower down the pyramid have done it I the past when the FA ruled against them but at this stage of the tournament would be unprecedented and would at least see the club pushback against the stupid aspects of this license

Beaton mind the club were even happy to give the unsold tickets away for free Edited March 15, 20224 yr by terraloon

We were more or less that even before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. If we drowned a dozen puppies in a weighted bag it would would barely show up as a blip on a 'how much Chelsea are despised' line graph. So asking for closed door matches is harmless - and also a complete waste of breath.

March 15, 20224 yr F*cks sake, it’s a really dumb move by Chelsea, asking for it to be behind closed doors. Trying to deny 30k Middlesbrough fans watch a FA cup quarter final against a PL giant. This is only going to attract more scrutiny and criticism, and I have to say, this time, for this particular situation, it’s warranted. Incredibly stupid.

I understand that it's probably nothing more than postering to send a message, but like you say it only attracts more criticism and even less sympathy, giving ammunition to the likes of Carragher. You can always rely on our board to make decisions that make absolutely zero sense to anybody else outside of that boardroom. Edited March 15, 20224 yr by 2211

I think we should push back on the government for their treatment of us but this is not the way.

The national outcry if it was United, Arsenal or Liverpool would be immense. Not to mention pool fans would have stormed the houses of parliament and we would not be under the New Scouse Order, or NSO.
March 15, 20224 yr And this apparently is the response from a senior government person to Chelsea requesting that the game is played behind closed doors.

Sounds unprofessional and catty, how is the government telling a football club what is important in football? How can they even have an opinion at all?
March 15, 20224 yr As Steve Gibsons text to Simon Jordan, also the director of the PL club pushing for us to not be a debt free sale, shows they don't care about our survival, and they are not the only ones.

Now what dictator does that sound like? The Government that is partly funded by Russian money (although they only get it from clean Oligarchs apparently), the government that have tried to push through 'The police, crime, sentencing and courts bill' that would allow the police significant leeway to stop protests on grounds including noise and disruption to the public and the government that sees nothing wrong in anything done in Saudi Arabia like beheading 81 people without a recognised fair trial. I keep saying it, but we will not survive this. There is absolutely nobody that has any interest in our survival and plenty that would love nothing more than to see us gone. I spoke with an Everton fan today and he said that he doesn't really care whether we survive or not. Nobody will miss us.
March 15, 20224 yr It's a crass move but also a defensive one. No club can now demand a chelsea home game can be played behind closed doors. Which inevitably would happen.
March 15, 20224 yr It all boils down to whether the clubs can sell the allocated away tickets directly to the fans without the Club's intervention. If I understand well, the away tickets' money goes to the home club, but they sell the allocation to the away club to sell on to its supporters. If that's how it works, it would be dead easy for Middlesborough to set up an internet site where Chelsea fans can log in with their ST or Membership number to acquire a ticket. The money would not go to Chelsea but directly to the other club. But I'm not certain about how it all works, so it may not be possible to implement something like that.

This is less “action” in comparison to USA and Britain in the same time span lmao
