August 3, 20196 yr Reece James has a big shirt to fill (literally I mean, Cahill was a beast). I know it’s only a number but I’m still unhappy about Willian taking the number 10 shirt, he just doesn’t deserve it.

If you ever played the game at any level you’d understand it’s not just a number it can reflect your status within the squad (going back to the days where individuals didn’t have a specific number, it was 1-11 for whoever started).
August 3, 20196 yr Numbers matter to players. It's a recognition. Some players make numbers their own but the culture remains everywhere. Willian is both the most suited and the least suited to wear the No. 10 though

Oooh, you do condescension quite well, young Munkie! It's one thing players care about numbers, based on superstition or having the same number since forever. In here it's the supporters who seem to think they can determine who has earned a number or not. Applying that consistently: the players should all start with a number high in the 50s, and after a season or 2 some supporters panel allocates the worthy players with a sacred squad number

Val has come up with a cracking idea to put to the club

It's not as significant now though, in fact it barely has any significance. For example, alonso being 3 and Rudiger 2 is a disgrace.

Still deserves it more than CHO at this point in time. I imagine that the message to CHO is that he will get it when Willian's gone, and he'll probably still be only 20/21 at that point. Obviously CHO would have to turn his huge promise and potential into a starting spot in the team as a pre-req ...
August 4, 20196 yr I dislike Willian more than anyone but he had to take a number and number 10 was available.
August 4, 20196 yr Dunno what people are moaning about the post clearly says you can get your 19/20 Willian shirts updated with the new number free of charge.

I've gone through this before on the other thread, but his body language on the field is abysmal. The second one of my teammates threw their hands in the air at one of my mistakes, or showed me up in some way, I wanted to choke slam them. The fact that Willian throws his hands in the air most of the game, without producing meaningfully on the field, showing up his last two managers after being substituted... Basically I think his attitude is terrible. He's basically Alexis Sanchez last six months at Arsenal, without the pedigree. I don't think there is a player in the league that thinks so much of himself while producing so little. That so many fans are finally catching on that he's never been much of an attacker is what's surprising to me. He's gotten treated like a king at Chelsea, which may have contributed to that sense of entitlement. That's why I don't like watching Willian play.
August 4, 20196 yr What do you dislike so much about Willian, just wondering? That hair... Bastard, mocking me so mercilessly.

Spot on tried to explain this numerous times, it’s not just a random number it’s holds significance and a weight of expectation, especially at a big club and it means a lot to players. To say it’s not significant or brush it off shows ignorance and lack of understanding of football players mindsets. My brother played semi pro even at that level it causes problems in the changing room if someone feels a number is undeserved or 2 people going for the same shirt etc Nothing to do with superstition it’s symbolic of your status in the team. It’s like giving someone a title, it says you’re our main man at this position. Also at this level it has to do with marketing CR7, R9, R10 everyone has one of those now.
