How to end this season ?

Featured Replies

I miss football as much as anyone, but I'm not comfortable with the way they are trying to get things up and running again with everything going on.

Playing behind closed doors, no fans, the players, staff, and everybody else involved in the game worried about their safety. Football is supposed to be fun and exciting, what is so fun and exciting about any of this? It's all about the money, nothing else seems to matter.

Yup. It’s all about the money. You take money out of the equation and there’s no reason at this stage to restart.

The French solution for the Premiership would cause ructions. Not so much for the title but for the bottom clubs. Bournemouth sit on 27 points, above them sit West Ham and Watford on 27 points. Villa have 25 and Norwich 21. Relegation is far from settled and any decision to end the season here and relegate the bottom three would result in legal action that would drag on for eons. The Dutch solution seems the most equitable for the Premiership but tough on league sides like Leeds, and that thought has me crying in my tea,

Agree, relegation is far from sorted. Could be any three of the bottom six which is relegated. As, you say legal actions could drag on for months. Also there is the issue of qualification for next season's Champions and Europa Leagues. Still a few clubs in a chance there. Could be legal cases there as well. The cost of those could on top of refunds to broadcasters and ST holders could be astronomical.

Another chance to laugh at Leeds if they don't get promoted. Although in some ways it would be nice to see them back to give them some stick.

There is massive apathy amongst football fans about the season restarting because of Liverpool's position. If say three or four teams (not necessarily Chelsea) where in with a shout of winning the league then a lot more would be more vocal in restarting. As it is everyone is united in hoping it's another 30 years of hurt for Liverpool and looking forward to taking the piss out of them if the season becomes void and I believe (and hope ) it will.

We should have everyone fit by the time football is back, probably not until August i reckon, Pulisic, Abraham, CHO, RLC, on the other hand some players will be half a year older and at risk of seizing up.

I despise Leeds. Always have. Liverpool are the enemy but you have to admire what they have achieved down the years. Leeds just invoke a visceral hatred. Bunch of cheats, especially when Revie was in charge. When Matt Busby died, clubs held a minute's silence but Leeds fans, at Blackburn I think, cheered, and chanted for Revie. Even the dippers didn't do that.

Seizing up? Can see it now, an influx of club Physios down B&Q buying up all the WD40.

As we've said many time before, there is only one solution VOID the season, to complicated and controversial to try and work out a season end with current positions, and totally disgusting and in bad taste the authorities even considering trying to finish it, even players saying their scared and worried to play. This stand by the authorities really is turning people off the game. Not sure if I have seen an organisation get the mood of people and the country so wrong.

The french league have it written into their rules on how to complete a season if it cant finish, they have basically ran their conclusion to their rules and basically no clubs can complain. The Premier League on the other hand dont, so they really cant just complete in the same way, I`m pretty sure the relegated teams will take them to the cleaners.

Agree, null and void the season. Yes, clubs will miss out on promotion and they'll moan but compared to what could happen if the season re-starts too early and the virus spreading the complaints from those teams will pale into insignificance. The football authorities are oblivious to what is happening and what really pisses me off is that they haven't sounded out the views of fans. I read a comment yesterday by Glen Murray (posted elsewhere in this thread) that the public is desperate for football to return. I don't know of anyone who is desperate for it to return. Yes, some people are missing it but that is very different from being desperate for football to start up again. As mentioned before, there are lots of other things e.g. meeting up with family friends I wish to do before watching football. Indeed I can think of at least half-a-dozen things to do before watching football.

Voiding the season means Spurs and Arsenal are rewarded for their worst season's for over a decade with CL football while Leicester and Sheffield United miss out on potential club changing income that they've worked hard for.

Forget completely fair we're well past that point, but any and I mean any way of sorting it out within current positions is a better way than giving Spurs and Arsenal what is the football equivalent of a handout while denying Sheffield a chance that they've earned to grow as a club.

One things that's really shocked me through all of this is the internalised hatred of the game coming to the fore, especially on social media. I knew football wasn't well thought of by outsiders but I genuinely didn't realize many actual football fans secretly/subconsciously felt the same.

I'm not sure why you keep on punting this.  Sheffield and Wolves stand above Spurs and Arsenal as the table stands at the moment, in 6th and 7th respectively.

How are they missing out whilst "Spurs and Arsenal are rewarded for their worst season's for over a decade with CL football"

I find it endearing that you have such a soft spot for those gritty northern underdogs, but they have punched way above their weight this season, had a blinding season, much like Blackburn did one year, but it really doesn't mean that much.  Why do you think they are being hard done by, or discriminated against?

If City's ban is implemented both clubs will get CL football in a season they're on course not to even be in Europe atall (as they will have to revert to 18-19 table Arsenal in 5th will take City's place).

And yeah they could completely waste their opportunity ala Blackburn or they could use the added/unexpected income to grow as a club and truly establish themselves in the top half ala Leicester and seemingly Wolves, main point is they've earned the chance to show us which one.

Football fans love the game, match going fans who are the life blood of the game and we spend fortunes each season going obviously do or we wouldn't go, but many will despice not the game but the authorities and the media who have walked all over us for years, and in this crises the authorities certainly haven't endeared themselves to anyone.

To be honest it's irrelevant to me whether Liverpool do or don't win league, whether We, Spurs, Arsenal, Wolves , Sheff utd, utd get champions League or whether Leeds do or don't go up, 27k people have died and many more will die in this country in the coming months, next season will a right off anyway, at best it will be played behind closed doors until the new year, more likely the whole of next season until a vaccine is found

If City's ban is enforced, and the season isn't voided, then the standings as is will apply, dippers win the league and United get CL, Wolves and Sheffield get Europa League and the other muppets get f**k all.

If the season is voided, it's dubious to say the least that they would use last year's league positions to decide who goes into Europe.  If they did that they would have to crown City champions again and all of the other stuff that goes with ending the season.

And, finally, it's also highly possible that there will be no European competitions in this calendar year, at the earliest, it's possible that there won't even be a domestic league in the form we know it this year.

I really doubt that no sports will be played around mid-August. While it's true that the Olympics, Wimbledon and so on won't be played it's very possible that some football leagues will try to reset when the whole virus thing calms down a bit just so that the sponsorship money isn't lost.

But if games are played again somewhere in August it should mean that this season is done and never completed, this season should be voided by default if you ask me. Next season could start without fans, specially if all leagues officially void the current season now and simply do nothing during May, June, July...

There is no real guarantee that a vaccine will ever be found and I wouldn't trust a vaccine that is made in less than a year from now.

Thanks for sending this, have sent it out a few times and caught some bites.

You're welcome mate. I used to work with a few Liverpool fans. Since giving up work I've lost contact with them otherwise I would have sent it to them and waited for the reaction. No doubt I would have been called a few things.

We have been linked with buying Coutinho from Barcelona. Putting aside whether or not we need him Barcelona are asking for £87 million for Coutinho. Now I'm not sure why he wants to leave Barcelona or why that side needs to sell him but at this time can clubs at this time ask other teams for what they want? I'm not sure and am interested to know what others think. Money is tight at the moment and could become even more tight if broadcasters and sponsors want refunds. If clubs are desperate to sell players to buy new ones or try and balance their books they may have to drop the asking place i.e. it becomes a buyers market. Comparisons have been made to the housing market and there are times when that is a buyers market and on other occasions it is a sellers market.

Sellers could lose money but then a lot of businesses sometimes have to sell at a cut down price to keep going.

As for broadcasters and sponsors I suspect that they have already been in contact with clubs about how, when and if money is refunded for games not being broadcast. It would be handy if broadcasters made public their plans - or as much as contracts allow - so viewers can plan for paying for broadcasts especially if subscription charges are increased. Apologies, if I've missed announcements from broadcasters.

So players are now starting to come out and say they dont want the game to restart, they are fearful of the risks. And predictably they are getting abuse form Liverpool fans on social media for daring to say this, same as the mayor of Liverpool. They are a sick cult.
