Am I missing something? I didn't think he did anything wrong did he? He's been a great servant for the club, and a few of his injuries came from putting 100% in, like the game against Juventus, it was a 50/50 fight for the ball and he gave his all.

I didn't like what he did walking off injured when he only needed to play on for another 2 minutes but that's just me, it doesn't really warrant the treatment he's getting at the moment. (Not on the table).

I think we should use him as a squad player, right back seems to be the one to invert into midfield so he should be fine playing as a left back?

Some people have never liked him from day one. Same people that used to berate Mount, Trev, CHO, Tammy etc. after every game they played.

I mean let's not pretend the average fan is listened to. Which is a good thing, we'd have never had Conte and Tuchel here if they were.

Utterly stunning incompetence and turpitude by a group of owners, sporting directors (and possibly even head coach) who already had zero credibility.

Appalling treatment of an incredibly good player, who even now is still the best left-back in the team. Grow some balls Maresca and give him all of Mudryk's minutes, like we were yelling at Pochettino for doing at the beginning of last season.

Yep, and then the vast majority of that side played in a season in which we finished 12th.

How often does a player lose form so drastically for as long as he has and recover their previous level (especially when injuries are involved)? I genuinely cannot think of a single example, if there is any I've missed they're very much anomalies.

And if we want to go down the route of Cucurella, he was a crucial player in an elite European trophy winning team as recently as two months ago....

Watch Chilwell's performance v Atletico in 2021 and ask yourself when was the last time he moved like that? Forget about the footballing side, see how agile and nimble he is. When was the last time we saw him like that?

The injury had a long lasting affect on him.

It's always a shot in the dark whether you come back the same person after a horrific knee injury, as it is very much mental as it is physical. His pace, agility, and nimble movement has been completed tattered. 

A player who was absolutely top quality. A player who made a real difference to us a team. A player who has had a long run of injuries. A player, so some say, who hasn't hit the form he was showing 2 or 3 seasons ago.

James is still superb a lot of the time he plays, he seems to have the Ledley King gene where he casually comes back from injury and carries on where he left off.

You've mentioned a few times how Sterling isn't the one you remember in his earlier days at Liverpool/City, well this Chilwell is just as far removed from the 2021 version.

20 in 22/23.

Chilly included in PL squad with a view to still selling him in January.

Means Chilly may after all that frozen out crap get some minutes !

More likely to join the injures list after a game or a vigorous training session...lol

Included in the squad because there is no sign that the injury issues surrounding the club have at all cooled down so we need him...........as some of us predicted, trying to force players out wasn't such a good idea. Now we have a player included in the squad that knows he isn't wanted.

I never thought we would become a club like this.

I'd play Chilwell, but I also wouldn't have put out the message openly that he needs to leave. Maresca's comments were beyond stupid, and now we have a player included in the squad that knows he isn't wanted, has had the vice captaincy role taken from him and the club and manager tried to force out. This can't be good for player morale, I can imagine the atmosphere would be pretty tense. Chilwell has also made it very clear that he has become really fond of the club. I think the way the club has treated him (and others) is disgusting in all honesty, and now that they couldn't sell him, they are crawling back and including him in the squad because recent injuries have put us in a position where we are one more injury away from being forced to play him.

Cucurella was part of a team who won an international trophy. This plodding ersatz of top-level football didn't quite exorcise Harry Kane, but it did admit dynamism enthusiast Jorginho a few years ago. International football is no longer relevant when talking about elite football.

You could ask the same question of everyone in the squad. Why is there any question about Chilwell specifically when his only real fault was the red against Réal when we has more or less given up on the season?
