If Maresca can make a difference and coax some leadership qualities out of all these relative youngsters then he'll have done very well. Encouraging that he thinks he has a few candidates in mind to work with on that, as they don't obviously present themselves to the casual observer.

Yeah 100% mate. I really hope he can do it and tbh it ain't a bad way to do it. Give them responsibility, give them the captain's band for a game and big up the position and task. Could work and like you I hope it does. I really hope Maresca turns out to be a good fit. We need a strict leader at the helm, especially with youngsters. Don't work hard then there's the door. My worry is those stupid SDs take his leaders away after working hard on them and he loses it. Lol

 

 

Yep...his discipline record ain't that great and only comes second to his even worse injury record. I understand there will be an upheaval when they finally let him go but I'm in the grp that thinks if his injury record is bad again this season then maybe its time to let him go.

They've basically pushed most of the remaining experience out of the club : Silva, Sterling, Gallagher, Chilwell, Chalobah, (plus Kepa and Lukaku 🙂 )

Really only Reece James left now.

The remaining member of the bomb squad that I would bring back into the squad.  I don’t get he’s a bad influence vibes from him so no worries that he would mess with squad harmony.  Clearlake was trying to get his wage off the bill, as he hasn’t gone might as well make use of that wage.  I don’t buy “he doesn’t fit the system”.  That’s just the club spin that Enzo has been told to use to get the high earners out…

Crazy thing is our Champions League winning team from three years ago wasn't that old. The huge turnover since then has been remarkable.

Only James and Chilwell (deemed surplus to requirements) remain now.

In stark contrast to the team we beat that day ... who can still select 10 players involved in the Final (including 8 of the starters), and to which they've added Haaland.

Yeah, such a shame though. He (james) even played inverted the few times we've seen him before his injury, so wasn't bombing it down the line like he normally does. Shame really.

Not particularly, it's not 2021 anymore and he's not really played well for two years (although ofcourse some benefit of the doubt needs to be given for Poch tax).

It was obvious he wasn't going to be able to play the LCB/inverted role however, IIRC Tuchel said himself in the most bluntest of terms he was never in consideration for the former role in his system.

That new contract in 2023 is ageing into one of the worst decisions the club have made under these owners and it wasn't even nessesery, he still had ages left.

It wasn't much of a pay rise they gave him in the grand scheme of things, and more about extending the duration so he was less at risk of leaving for free like Christensen and Rudiger did. The mistake was offering such a huge initial contract in the first place. No offence to left backs but they really have to be at Roberto Carlos levels to justify the sort of money Chilwell was given ... which was 3x what he was on at Leicester apparently.

It can certainly be read as harsh, but comes across as tongue firmly in cheek to me. 

Given the stance on Chilwell not "fitting the system" how long is it going to be before Gusto is in the same boat as Chilly ? Because Malo is never going to be a RCB or DM ...

James and Cucurella should be able to do it. Plus Veiga at LB/LCB/DM as well

Gusto and Chilwell though are both more suited to a formation that uses wingbacks, as their best work is going forwards along the flanks. This is James too, but he's also versatile enough to play at RCB or DM. Academic though if he is unfit or suspended 🙂

Not particularly surprised that no club is interested in him. 

I don't think I can ever forgive Chilwell for walking off the pitch injured when there is 2 minutes left in the match, leaving us down to 10 men. Disgraceful.

I am tbh, after the deal we gave arsenal of paying half of his wages with no loan fee you'd think a club would be interested in a similar deal for Chilwell.

For all of sterling’s faults he does have a goal in him which will make him far more likely for someone to take a punt on him. Also don’t ever recall him being injured during his career unlike Chillwell 

Maybe he finds a Turkish club to go on loan to as well.
