November 6, 20232 yr As far as the Arsenal games goes: Difficult to tell if ball went out of play, got to go with the on field decision. BeIn have since confirmed with their technology the entire ball didn't go out of play. Far too soft to give that as a push without stopping the game 70 times a match. Ball had looped over the defender and tried his best to buy a free kick by throwing his legs up. Surprisingly a lot of shouts for offside too, even though the Newcastle player was behind the ball. In summary: Arteta is a whiny little hypocritical bitch and the club are as pathetic as their manager, players and fans trying to claim they've been hard done to after playing some of the most boring football i'd witnessed in 90 minutes and Havertz nearly side-lining a player for 12 months. Saw no such moans from Arsenal when Kovacic was sent off in a cup final against them for Xhaka standing on his foot. f**k the lot of them, despicable club and i want nothing more than to see the lot of them suffer for the foreseeable future. November 6, 20232 yr Arsenal should count themselves lucky they are as high as they are. Between them and United, they have been sh*t but relied on individual brilliance for goodness knows how long.

VAR is a great addition to the game when operated by, and this is very IMPORTANT competent officials. Can't agree, no matter how good the officials are in the VAR room, as it is you can never fully celebrate a goal, I'm willing to take some human error in order to get rid of that feeling of dread that a goal could be disallowed.

So you would take getting knocked out of say a semi-final on a doggy decision that could have been turned over by VAR?
November 6, 20232 yr People have said soft, but two hands pushed into someone’s back is always a foul all over the pitch so I can see frustration from that. The issue with VAR is it assumes the ref saw the incident so won’t change it as a howler, but they could of sent him to the screen to check.

Happened to us against Barca, happened to us against Liverpool, that's (was) football, there will have also have been times where we've benefitted. Not being able to celebrate a goal properly has made the sport significantly less enjoyable for me, that game we played against Blackburn was such a breath of fresh air knowing when we score a goal it's definitely a goal, no waiting around for people 100 miles away to decide. Also, I have a second team that are currently in the League 1 as well and that really makes you appreciate no VAR, especially when you're watching at the stadium, at Chelsea games there's always a sense of apprehension to fully celebrate but in the EFL it's just pure joy when your team scores. Maybe there is a compromise that will eventually be developed, but at the minute I don't feel the technology suits the game in terms of making it fan friendly.
November 6, 20232 yr Author The biggest issue is the refs are looking for a reason to disallow a goal. Even if it's a centimetre offside, they are drawing their sh*tty lines. Just leave it alone, nobody asked for refs to disallow goals for being a centimetre offside, all we wanted was to stamp out the blatant errors. I also hate it when they look at a tackle from a bunch of angles and then slow it down and watch it back 20 times to decide if it's a red card. It's ridiculous, many tackles can look bad when you slow it down and change the angle. Also, if you need to look at a tackle that much, then you can't be 100% sure it's a red card. VAR should have been implemented a lot better, but they have done so much damage to it now that i don't know how they can change fans opinions on it. There will always be that delay from fans when celebrating a goal now, but it never had to be this way.

Bar that one system error at Villa the system has been great.
November 6, 20232 yr Author One of the worst cases was a few years ago when we played the 2-2 game against Liverpool. Pulisic scored and Kovacic scored a worldie, but both goals were scrutinised by the VAR when there was clearly no blatant error from the ref. The fans groaned, the players looked fed up and even the commentary team said it was ridiculous. It deflated what was a really exciting comeback from being 2-0 down. They must know they are spoiling it for the fans. I've been wondering for a while if they are doing this deliberately. They don't like VAR so refuse to use it properly in the hope that it gets scrapped. They will probably get their way if things continue and it will be back to being able to avoid consequences (even more so than they do now) for serious errors.
November 6, 20232 yr In my view, "clear and obvious" should be the criteria for everything VAR looks at including offsides ... if you can only call it offside after 4 minutes of analysis from all angles and drawing spurious lines, then it's onside end of story !
November 6, 20232 yr The crux of the issue is if you get rid of VAR, I bet my mortgage on it that the same fans who want it gone would be asking for it as soon as a decision goes against their team. When you realise that these refs in the prem were sh*t before VAR and consistently some of the worst on Europe. Another thing is arrogance we don’t give enough thought to the arrogance or the refs on the prem.
November 6, 20232 yr Quite surprised Todd hasn't suggested having seven officials on the pitch yet, like they do in American football !
November 6, 20232 yr VAR bought the worst out of fans, like cheering for no goal, and booing a player who just got stamped on because the offender got a red. Spurs would wish VAR gave the goal for Caicedo, so the rest is forgotten. I though the goal should have been given if the offside player had not deflected the ball, but for once VAR got it wrong to make it right.
November 7, 20232 yr I agree with Ange on this. VAR has improved nothing and taken authority away from ref and made the game less entertaining and fun.
November 7, 20232 yr This is reality of VAR and ref. Everyone said VAR will solve stuff and all we want is good referee. Just BS. In Arse case, VAR did everything right. Yes everything right and Arse and Arteta came out with pathetic statement. The reality is nobody really want higher standard of referee and all they want is to get the call.
November 7, 20232 yr All you really need is a challenge system like in tennis. Each manager gets two challenges per half. If used, the referee goes straight to the monitor and looks at the passage of play again. He has one minute to confirm or change the decision. If the challenge is upheld then you still have two left. Scrap Stockley Park.
November 7, 20232 yr The VAR decisions yesterday took 21 minutes in total, thats absolute ridiculous. No decision should take more than 2 minutes maximum, then back to refs decision.
November 7, 20232 yr Probably against the majority here but I thought last night proved why VAR is needed. It might not be currently being used in the optimal way but that game would have been more of a sh*te show if we didn't have it. Im sure the ref missed 90% of what actually went on, hence why VAR had to intervene so often. Semi Automatic offsides need introducing though, why its taking as long as it is when there is a system that does it in seconds is beyond words.
November 7, 20232 yr So Arsenal have sent a huge list of decisions that have gone against them 🤣 Absolute bellends. Is there one with the ones they got going for them also then....

November 8, 20232 yr I literally don't celebrate goals anymore. By the time VAR has decided the moment has gone. I'll take a few bad calls to get rid of it.
November 8, 20232 yr Refs are crap and always have been. Arsenal and arteta are coming across like Liverpool and klopp. In the same game that’s triggered his rampage havertz easily could have been sent off twice. Ironically, I also suspect one of the main reasons he didn’t get the sack when they were doing terrible under him was because they won the cup against us, with a major helping hand from the ref that day.
November 8, 20232 yr I hate VAR. But managers only complain about it after it affects them, it just comes across as sour grapes. Arteta said "mistakes happen" after the Liverpool Tottenham game, now he's ranting and raving about it because his team was on the receiving end of a controversial goal (which I believe was the correct decision anyway). I hope they take it out but it would be better if all managers banded together as a petition to get rid of it rather than just complaining about it after a bad game.
