Chelsea v Burnley (PL) Sun 31st Jan 2021 12:00 GMT

Featured Replies

The outlook of the game for me is: We hold on to the ball 80-90% of the game. Burnley get the odd attack, freekick and cornerkick where they can hurt us. The game is 95% certain of being very frustrating. We need to pull off some nice passing stuff to break them down. I wouldn't play Werner. He can't score right now.

3-4-3

Mendy

Azpi - Silva - Zouma

James - Kante - Mount - CHO

Ziyech - Tammy - Pulisic

James/Ziyech/Tammy combos, Pulisic/CHO/Tammy combos are the way to hurt them. Tuchel wants us to hold on to ball and he will not change that about his football.

                Mendy

James T.Silva Rudiger Chilwell

                 Kante

CHO  Ziyech Mount Pulisic

                Abraham

4-1-4-1, decent lineup, both Ziyech and Mount can drop deep to help out when needed. Get in Havertz if Ziyech isn't passing the ball well, easy win.

Kovacic absolutely has to start after the game on Wednesday, in my dreams I picture him becoming a nailed on starter under Tuchel.

I also think we should stick with Chilly, not his greatest game but he's our future on the left side so we should build him up. I'd like to see this:

--------------Tammy--------------

CHO---------Mount--------Ziyech

-------Kovacic-------Kanté--------

Chilwell--Rüdiger---Silva------Azpi

-------------Mendy---------------

... which can fluently translate into ...

--------------Tammy--------------

-------Mount-------Ziyech--------

Chilwell--Kovacic--Kanté-----CHO

------Rüdifer---Silva----Azpi------

--------------Mendy--------------

I wouldn't start Kovacic with Kante ever again :sadwalk:  but maybe it works with the back 3...

I hope Tuchel will finally make it work out. We complained about the missing link between our defence and midfield in the last weeks under Lampard, the fullbacks passing back and forth endlessly and any progression only happening over the wings. Well thats certainly not gonna change with Kanté in a 4-1-4-1 formation. He's simply not the right man for that spot. I fully agree with Tuchel seeing his best position in a double 6, so who shall we pair him with? I think Kovacic is the right man, he's aggressive against the ball and manages to carry the ball forwards.

It hasn't worked out so far but to be fair Sarri hardly tried it because he played 4-3-3 and maybe Tuchel will finally manage to pair them up produtively.

I would try Kante - Mount there. Work rate off the charts and Mount can organize the team into the final third. But then again the same roaming problems might happen just like when we had Kante - Kovacic...

Tuchel has to figure it out or we won't finish top 4.

We have 2 players in midfield who have the positional discipline to consistently be within 10 yards of our CB's and they are Jorginho and Billy, Kante, Kova & Mount all have the tendency to look to press higher up the pitch.

With a back 3 you can potentially look to play Mount & Kante with an additional CB however with a back 4 we may have to play a combination of Jorg/Billy and one of the other 3. Mount can also be utilized in the Number 10 role to press higher up alongside offering a goal threat.

I really hope Kante isn't going to be untouchable, that was my one big gripe with Frank in what I believe was otherwise a good job done last season.

He still more than has a role for us but his present day level simply doesn't warrant an untouchable status. Hopefully Tuchel can differentiate the Kante he's always wanted and the Kante of 2021.

With the price paid for Havertz, I don't see them giving up on him. I think we can expect to see him in the 10. Mount will need to play as one of the double pivots. I love the energy Mount brings to the team, but I think we are going to see a heavy dose of Havertz.

To play Havertz does not mean the need to sacrifice Mount in to a deeper role.

For example in the previously used system you could:

James/CHO

Gilmour/Jorginho

Kante/Kovacic

CHO/Alonso

Havertz

Mount

Werner/Abraham/Giroud

Would not be surprised to see Burnley turn us over if Tuchel does not get the team selection right.

They are playing well and won at Liverpool, not an easy thing to do, and beat Villa as well. Much better side than Wolves imo.

We have better wingers than Havertz and Mount. I think Mount has shown in the past year he is less than average as a winger, but very good in midfield.

They are not wingers in that system though, they are inside forwards and can rotate with the striker fluidly.

The width is supplied by the wingbacks so they need to be fast and to be able to beat a man, like James, Pulisic and CHO, or deliver a good cross without needing to beat a man, Like Alonso and James.

I really hope the one thing that changes with a new manager is that we stop walking the ball down and then bomb in high cross after high cross. I hope to see more attacking from both the middle and wide.

I am not sure with back 4 you have to play jorgi/Gilmour. Gilmour and jorgi work best in 3 mid format due to their lack of athleticism.

Hmm?

He is untouchables though, if they say either kante or mendy is out of the season, we can forget this season. It will be brutal.

Apart from Spurs away all our best performances last season came without Kante. He's been better this season but last it was infuriating seeing him walse back in after we built serious momentum without him.

Its early days for mr tuchel...

There seems to be no rhyme or reason between top and bottom clubs results...

But

I certainly expect , and i mean expect, us to get thru this tough game with 3 points...

We should have got 3 off Wolves. They are in really poor form.

Don’t mean to nit pick, but I doubt that MM asked or wanted to play on the wing - I don’t know that he did or that he didn’t btw - but I imagine he just did was he asked to do?

I never meant to imply that he asked. He has been played there by both Chelsea and the national team, and it does not take advantage of his best qualities.

Tuchel said he doesn't see too many flaws in our team which is quite concerning so I don't know if much will change, especially in a few days.

To be fair you rarely see a new manager come in and state that the squad is rubbish. Perhaps Barry Fry would have said that but most are going to try and give a positive spin even if they have identified flaws behind the scenes.

I think you are talking early season when everyone was praising how we played I remember how great zouma and Tomori played because It was madness, absolute madness. We pretty much couldn't cover our d line, and we kept losing the ball so it was basketball game. Every good team, create a lot concede little, we created a lot n conceded a lot. Fun to watch but unsustainable.

Kante is pretty much our only midfielder that can actually defend. It is that simple, he may no longer at the peak of his game but he is still very2 good.
