Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!

Featured Replies

Update from Ben Jacobs:

Talks continuing between Chelsea and Inter. A traditional loan is now looking less likely than a swap deal. Both options have been explored. Chelsea want a defender. Skriniar, Bastoni and Dumfries discussed.

Inter sources familiar with the talks say they don't want to lose Bastoni, whose agent has also said he's "definitely staying". No doubt Bastoni is happy at Inter but agent quote should still be taken with a pinch of salt at this stage.

Skriniar is being chased by PSG and Inter are open to letting him go. There is an acceptance they can't get Lukaku without either paying a significantly higher loan fee or trading someone.

My understanding remains there is no chance of Chelsea getting Martinez. Even if Inter soften, Martinez doesn't want the move. Inter see Lukaku-Martinez as a key partnership on and off the field.

Still also some discussion within Chelsea as to whether Lukaku should simply be loaned in the short-term given he's under contract until 2026. Todd Boehly has spoken to Thomas Tuchel to determine whether the relationship between manager and player is 'repairable'.

In a more traditional loan deal, #CFC would want over double the €5 million Inter have offered. €12-15m is the likely fee, despite Chelsea originally hoping for €20m. Talks complicated by many moving parts: type of deal (loan or swap), Boehly's input, player-manager dynamic...

But most of all, as Chelsea have maintained from the very start, Lukaku will only be allowed to leave if the deal makes financial sense. He won't be loaned/sold out of sentiment. Chelsea and Inter are confident, however, of agreeing a deal in coming week. But talks not simple.

I reckon sorting out lukaku is our primary and sole focus.

You barley hear of anyone linked to signing for us nor others leaving. Think Rom is a road block and we won't move on to other matters till he is sorted.

Much as we want a swap deal if you ready what the Inter CEO has said he sounds very confident of Lukaku coming.

I reckon Lukaku will make it impossible for him to stay here to get the best deal for Inter possible.

We could bring Chopper out of retirement to take the training sessions and draw on the insurance 😏

The rumoured loan fee we’ll be getting from Inter will be €5m + €2m add on’s. €7m in total. Bear in mind that we loaned Tammy out to a championship side and received £7m - that puts it context how much we’re getting screwed over in this deal.

Why are we even contemplating this loan? Can’t we sell him for 10-20m to any team in Turkey or Moldova?

Loan to Vitesse for 4 years. That’ll learn him.

Loan to the shed lower bar, that would be even better!

So Inter can only afford a 5mill loan fee for Rom but can spend 8 times thar on Gelison Bremer?

They are taking the pi$$ with this, and if we let them everyone will see the new Chelsea as a soft touch.

TT may just have to keep him involved.

If there is an obligation to buy than that's why.

No way there will be an obligation, an option perhaps but not an obligation imo.

More on Romelu Lukaku deal. Talks are at final stages as reported today, as Chelsea told Inter they are ready to accept the following conditions: €10m loan fee plus add-ons. 🔵🇧🇪 #CFC

Inter are just waiting for owners to give the final ‘green light’, as per @MatteoBarzaghi.

Sh*t loan fee, no players in exchange and no buy obligation. Great job Chelsea if true...

The truth is getting him out of the club no matter the cost can only benefit us come the start of the season. Speaks volumes doesn't it.

Of the need to get rid of whoever sanctioned his signing yes.

This only sorts the problem for 1 season. After that we have 3 or more years of problems.

I have a feeling Lukaku is going to be our player for the rest of his contract and he will be loaned out every year to make back some of the money we spent on him. Basically, it's going to be Bakayoko all over again.

Except we keep extending Baka for some reason.

A bad mistake on our part for a player who has shown what a weak mentality he has.. should have buckled down and given it a fair go.. Started flirting with Inter Milan just 6 months into his new deal.. Inter and he has taken us for a ride.. i think he will be roundly criticized and rightly so.. it is frustrating that we end up with such duds routinely.. Atleast Kepa tries his best..i think most fans have felt very let down by lukaku and i am sure inter are laughing their way to the bank.. they couldnt have believed their luck that they are actually making a cool 50-60 mil profit on him if not more..
