Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!

It makes you think doesn't it when the rumours were we wouldnt overspend on Haaland. We spent 100m on a player we have loaned back within 12 months, there's no gaurentee that any player will be a success. Haaland would of recouped most of that.

I wanted Lukaku to do well but his past has told us that there was a good chance it wouldn't happen. I think he's such a limited footballer for a modern team, the red flag should of been his Utd playing career.

Easily our worst signing to date.

I'm looking forward to the inevitable interview where he blames everybody but himself for being sh*t whilst he was here.

The predictable way Lukaku has turned out is frustrating. Everything I expected to happen has happened. I expected to see the absolute worst of him on a football pitch, I expected him to open his stupid mouth when things weren't going his way and I expected him to be yet another failure we ship out on loan for a few years because we can't sell him.

The worst signing we have ever made that was predictable from day 1. The only shocking thing was that some actually believed things would be different when we signed him, I don't know how he fooled you.

Agree, when we were first rumoured to be signing him I voiced my opinion in my normal diplomatic manner, and was shot down by many. Not to quote told you so, but I f**king told you so.

I don't think it was ever a wont spend on Haaland, it was more that we couldn't as there was no chance of him moving last season, it was all geared up for the low release figure kicking in meaning he and his agent would maximise the wages, signing on fees etc.

Plus by all accounts he didn't want to go to Chelsea.

They clearly just looked at the top line and thought it was all fall into place. I can understand it to a point here as we're "just" fans but the club should have known better.

Look at the amount of times early in this thread legit concerns got countered with (paraphrasing) "he scores goals, what's the problem?" says it all.

He's a Leeds fan.

Thinking of it from his perspective, if I was a world class footballer but Chelsea were a relegation fighting team I wouldn't come here but I certainly wouldn't go to Spurs or Arsenal no matter how good they are.

I don't think we'd have got him even if we were the best team in the world.

Plastic fan at best I would imagine though simply because of his dad

It’s a bit sad that because of a unbelievably horrible VAR decision in the League cup final that took away a legitimate Lukaku goal (the offsides ‘arm’) near the end of regulation that would have practically won the cup for us , people would not be so sour on him as they are now.

I would. It would be the equivalent of Benitez and the Europa win.

Thanks for that, you did alright on the night but bye bye.

Reluctantly I hope he gets back to pulling up trees at Inter next season, then just maybe another top outfit will come in for him next year in the window and the club can recoup some of the stupid fee MG negotiated with Inter a year ago, if he stiffs like the last 10 months with CFC it’ll be a 4 mill euro loan paying some of his silly wages or worst back at Cobham with 3 years left on the contract.

Sadly I don't think he will (although we will get to watch the amusing drama when he turns on another club he "loves").

Without Conte there to micromanage him (and his diet) and Inter now playing a more possesion based game under Inzaghi (in other words not remotely to his strengths) i can genuinely see another disaster and having to find him another club in 12 months sadly.

This is nothing to do with his performances. Early in the season he was one of our best players, got injured against Malmo and everything went from good to sh*te from there on. The interview, which I thought was not a big deal, derailed him and the season.

In the end rest of the squad didn't really take that easy. Kai for example looked like he got more energy constantly benching Lukaku.

I would have lived with all of this. What he decided after the season took the bottom off. I don't care what the reason is, his family, London, what ever. If you are 97,5m player you f**king live with it. You make it work. This silly boy just folded. Good riddance.

I thought the reason why Lukaku didn't work for us is because we play possession football and Lukaku simply can't play this way. After I re-watched some of our game, I kinda change my mind, it is not the possession football that is the problem, it is how our 343 works.

                    ST

Alonso - Cho - Mount - James

                              Kante

                  Jorgi

3 cb

You will understand why I put cho there and why he is one of  the key in one minute.

In our 343 Kante usually play higher and on the right. We have more player on the right it is easier for us to attack on the right. We want our st to move to the right to create overload on that right hand side  and then as good team do we switch it to the left. There are only two player on that left hand side. With player like cho this is brilliant, one on one is his game but for player like kai, Timo, mount, Ziyech (rw only but a bit hit n miss), puli (also a hit n miss) they need help plus no Chilwell make it even more difficult.

So somebody need to go over there. There are 3 option,

1. ONe of our cb make overlapping run,

2. Jorginho shift left and play higher

3. St shift to the left.

Here come the problem : 1st option. I am not sure Tuchel like this idea (we used to do this with Azpi under Conte and Davis/Romero is doing this right now for spurs). Our 2nd option is also impossible, Jorginho does not have the skill nor the mobility to do so, so there is only one option which is for our st to shift to the left but not shifting to the left to get goal but to provide support for our LW.

Here come the problem with Lukaku. 1st Lukaku favor the right hand side, 2nd he is a st who is looking for goals so he want to stay in the middle, last he is just freaking lazy.

But this is where kai really shine, he is not a natural st at who is looking for goal, his natural game is about moving side to side to create overload and it's just perfect for him.

This also show that if cho and Kova had stayed healthy the whole season, you will get better performance from Rom.

IMO this is his biggest problem offensively. Defensively there is nothing to say, his pressing game is just horrendous.

Only 10% of the hate is due to his performance. He is disliked because he undermined Tuchel and complained about his tactics, and flirted to go back to Inter when the club broke their transfer record to sign him. The disrespect was unbelievable and look, 1st sign of going back to Inter and he’s gone.

I see a lot of people showing more patience with Werner, Torres, Shevchenko etc because they stayed professional and showed respect to the club. Lukaku is a horrible c*nt.
