Transfer Window 2021

Featured Replies

I'm loving this transfer window more and more, and I mean that on a holistic level. With only a few days remaining, I hope all the majour rumours will materialse, particularly CR7 to ManCity, Mbappé to Real and obviously Koundé and Saul to us. Let`s picture that scenario

PSG and ManCity clearly feel the urge to "force" a UCL win and in my eyes they've found a very disturbing response to that - old trophy signings. For both the teams the focus will now shift entirely on the individuals. "Will Messi finally prove he can do it somewhere else? Will he be more impactful or Neymar? How will he correspond with Sergio Ramos? Can Ronaldo still dominate the Premier League? Could he become top scorer?" The players will be equally caught up with themselves, Ronaldo`s late push is basically a cry for attention.

PSG might lose their actual young superstar, ManCity missed out on the striker that could have actually improved them as a team. Instead they've found players that will demand to play and be the coach's primary concern while not contributing as a whole player (certainly when tracking back). If that doesn't happen they will cause disharmony, in the case of Ronaldo I could picture that being the case from day 1 when he realises that City initially thought he - CR7 - is probably not worth 27m EUR at this point 😂. I'd actually feel much calmer about City with Ronaldo in their squad, same about PSG replacing Mbappe with Messi (even if he stays reluctantly and dissatisfied they've kind of already done that 😂).

All the while we're keeping our head down thinking what characters and profiles could enhance our exquisitely competitive squad. Lukaku + Koundé + Saul would be another masterclass in that.

What about you guys, do you also wish for all the remaining rumours to materialise?

I feel you were a tad premature with this post mate,cr7 is now at man u ,and kounde and Saul are looking less likely.

hahaha was always gonna be premature! Now he's gonna do his damage at United, would have preferred City tbh. Annoyingly this might be a better fit for him, fewer characters to clash with, just 10 players and 1 coach awaiting his brief before every game

Kounde is looking more likely now than ever. Not sure what you’re seeing.

I really like what we’ve done this transfer window. We’ve improved our squad and have done it in a pretty sustainable way when you look at our player sales. I’m not sure many other top teams could say that.

Deadline day today. Maybe a decent thread to use for what may or may not be happening today?

Looking to strike deals for Niguez and Kounde but as of now both look unlikely.

Overall strong window.  Balanced the squad and removed much deadwood.  Still would have liked to see Kounde come in, but good opportunity for Chalobah to provide cover.  Silva and Christensen are both prone to injuries, so there will be plenty of game time across the 5 players that cover the back 3 positions.

The only real blemish is failing to shift Barkley anywhere ... Kounde clearly unrealistically priced by Sevilla, and we were right to walk away.

I think we also have Sarr, Baker and Musonda still hanging around as well ...

Before the transfer window the squad was a mixture of proven top players and some quality young ones like Mount, Havertz, James, CHO, Pulisic (now Chalobah as well) plus some in their mid 20s hitting their prime soon like Chilly, Christensen, Werner, all coming of the back of a CL win so it was clear we were not going to be in for a massive window and overall I am very happy with how things went, we adressed the most vital part (the CF position) and took a proven and versatile midfielder on loan, albeit not in the form he was in some years ago, but if Tuchel can have his team win a CL with Jorginho in a two man pivot and turn Rudiger from a bomb ticking defender into a top one, then I am sure he can help Saul, an already proven midfielder, rediscover his form.

Outgoings were great, too, helped balance the books and it is fair to say we made 100M+ on players who were not going to be regulars for us.

All I wanted for this window was for Tuchel to be happy with it and I hope he is. He's our main asset and as long we keep him satisfied and concentrated on his work, I think he can lead this club to even greater heights, not only in terms of trophies, but to establish Chelsea FC even higher in the world rankings and the perception of media/fans/clubs etc. as I already see a change of how people perceive Chelsea now. Even the pundits in my country who won't ever stop licking Madrid and Barcelona's arses how now changed their dialogue and everytime they talk about the CL and the PL they say "Listen this Tuchel version of Chelsea is scary good and even if Paris have a plethora of stars, Chelsea are a well drilled machine and can beat anyone on their day."

It is something they would never say about this club and it shows just how far Tuchel has taken us in the span of 8-9 months.

The transfer window is still open in some countries, so there are still possibilities.

Good point - I think Turkey and Russia still open for example ... Anjorin already linked to Lokomotiv Moscow, and maybe some club in Turkey will come in for Barkley ?

Considering we added a Centre Forward who we needed and brought in depth for midfield. This is astounding. Just a pity we couldnt push the Kounde deal through for what could have been a perfect window. Just shows what bringing one player in does, yesterday before the Saul deal we looked a little short but now appear more balanced.

I'd love to know how Sky put that chart together ... for us they must have deducted the original fees of players that we sold rather than the current amortisation value ... doubt they included loan fees either.

£3.1m net spend is incredible. Well done to Marina and Petr. Comparing it United’s and Arsenals makes them look terrible.

131M spent on transfers, the most in the league, yet none of those Arsenal players would have a place at Chelsea, City, United or Liverpool. 50M on Ben White is mental - a decent player in a well drilled defence with others as leaders, but to have him as the chief commander in an already poor setup that does not have the best protection from the midfielders either - recipe for a very poor signing. Arsenal really are a mess.

Arsenal will look back on this window as unfavourably as we do our 2017 one.

It's a 7/10 window once we signed Lukaku, 8/10 if Saul rediscover his form. Only lost Zouma, as much as I like the guy, he's never going to play a big part this season.

Pretty much how I feel about it too.

Tino is expected to go, either direct sale or loan with buy obligation, and a buy back either way.

Hopefully our contacts in Russia and maybe with turkey still open means we can still shift RLC, Barkley, Sarr, Baker and Musonda.

This was a fun window in general with the huge names moving clubs. I enjoyed our business for the most part. I would've liked to see Guehi and Tammy stay (and actually get playing time but...) The Saul deal is a low risk; high reward type of deal and I can definitely get behind that, regardless of how I feel about the player.

I also thought Arsenal's window was similar to Chelsea's in 2017. They spent all this money and what did they truly purchase? I'm definitely not upset about it, but it brought me back to scratching my head as we signed Zappacosta, Bakayoko, Drinkwater...

I suspect they've made an error as

Abraham (35) Zouma (30) Tomori (25) Guehi (20)  =110m (and those are conservative numbers) and then we sold Zappa, Livramento, Ugno, Bate and Moses (20m total)

So for me, we've got a net spend of minus 30m before you get into loan fees.

I suspect they've taken their data from transfermarkt which categorises some of our sales as Chelsea u23

Could be much worse like our neighbor, sign 150M worth of players and only 2-3 able to make it into the first 11 this season.

It's decided early we'd loan out Gilmour, towards the end we are  panicking a bit with nobody comes in. Chalobah stepped up, so we should deal with the absence of the defender for the season, or at least until next window. Other than that, I'd say it went according to plan, quality over quantity, NO whole sale change.

The weird thing with arsenal is they are probably signing the right players for their level, but they are paying way too much.

Put Marina in their negotiating team and they'd have spent half the money they did.
