Everyone will say that Silva has been our best signing which I completely agree with but the improvements from Chris to Silva is very minor. When Silva was injured for a while, I don't feel much different when Chris was playing. 

Then you compare it to the improvement from Kepa to mendy in mendy first season. It is not even close. Yes mendy has been awol since last season but in his first season, it change our team completely. We are talking about mendy here not cech or cortouis. 

If we keep doing this minor improvement on one position every season, we will go nowhere as a team. 

About cucu, yes he hasn't look good in either. But his profile is quite similar to azpi who is another rb/RCB type of player rather than a rwb

 

 

 

I am not sure on what basis you're saying this. Fofana has been injured, Koulibaly has looked a bomb scare in a number of matches, Cucurella looks significantly overpriced at the moment. Azpilicueta too old, Chilwell injured, Chilwell injured. Silva has been great but the end of thecroad is near now. Only Chalobah has delivered consistently and also shows promise for the future.

I agree we desperately need some quality in the midfield but absolutely we should go for Gvardiol if he is available. 

A centre back quartet of Fofana, Chalobah, Gvardiol and Colwill could be good for a decade after Silva has retired, and that's without any consideration for Koulibaly as well ...

RCB is Fofana or Chalobah

LCB is Koulibaly or Colwill.

Injury problems aside, I doubt Colwill or Trev would be played on their "wrong" side, as you have typed it ... 

 

Gvardiol probably being considered in place of Colwill ; I suspect the thinking is for Colwill to have more loans, and come in once Koulibaly moves on.

Colwill doesn't play for us. In fact recently Colwill doesn't play for Brighton,  so it's far too early to include him as a mainstay in a side that has cost hundreds of millions so far and therefore has to have designs on the Champions League.  Potential talent agreed. Potential. 

Fofana has already been a long term injury after signing him off the back of underlying injury issues rumours and an in depth US based medical. Potential talent agreed. Potential. 

Koulibaly clearly over the hill. Suspect pace and decision making, plus clear signs that he struggles with the intensity of this league. Oh and he's in his thirties and has already mentioned in the press that he has struggled to adapt to life in England (granted that was fairly early on). I'd be amazed if he is here in 2 years.

Chalobah has been delivering and deserves to be part of a strong, developing partnership.

Chalobah, Fofana and Gvardiol would be a decent combination with Koulibaly, if he is still around, as back up. Colwill then would have the chance to develop as he would be able to be dipped in and out selectively

Let's just use vvd. Vvd has been the best CB in PL for years. Do I wish that we have vvd instead of rudi? Nope. 

Do I wish that we have Salah/Mane instead of ziyech or puli or timo? Hell yeah.

Not sure how that is a counter argument for a solid defence to win you leagues. Surely you can see that the addition of Gvardiol can only strengthen us. I would also argue that a new keeper is also required at some point soon.

I am not disputing the fact that the entire midfield needs rebuilding and we possibly need a proper CF, but if Gvardiol is available he has to be a priority as well.

 

 

So "one day" he wants to play for us and Real Madrid.

Gvardiol being left footed can probably cover at LB. Endryck being signed for CF for the year after too. CM they're sorted with their youngsters.

Gavardiol is good on the ball, likes to carry it, is adventurous, and likes to get forward even to the point of taking risks. In my view LB/LWB is the position to which his attributes are best suited. Given that I believe neither Ben nor Marc are the final answer on our left defensive flank, my wish is that we bring Gvardiol in and play him as our first choice LB/LWB.

Being good on the ball as CB does not mean you can play lb let alone as lwb.
