Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

What a brave decision by Boehly. It's absolutely the right one. He was completely out of his depth. Now we need a real leader who can  motivate these players as we do have a good team to beat anyone out there.

Catch 22 for him. Joining now gives him a crack at UCL and a chance to get to know the players but if he doesn't improve results straight away he'll be under pressure in the summer compared to it being his honeymoon period.

Of course results will improve, everything was down to Potter !

😛😛😛

Any manager would be under pressure if results going south and struggling mid table. Given time doesn't given a hall pass with no regard to results and performance. Even Sarri got us the Europa cup and top 4, and he wasn't rated via most people. The current standard set via Potter is real low, even via Spurs standard. He wasn't helped by the injuries, but every manager in the past 2-3 seasons had awful runs with injuries.

Most likely end of season, he rejected us in 2021 because he didn't want to take over mid season, can't see it being different now.

i never expected this to happen

Nagelsmann to me seems like the same type of manager as Graham Potter

he is nowhere near elite

He isn't that much less qualified than Tuchel was when he took over to be honest. Not saying he will be as good as Tuchel though.

Both only won titles in a one team league before coming here. Tuchel got to the CL final with PSG, Nagelsmann reached the semi final with RB Leipzig.

Both also took mid table Bundesliga teams into Europe. They actually have pretty similar CVs before coming here.

Potter took östersunds into Europe (a bit similar to what Nagelsmann did with Hoffenheim)

RB Leipzig didn't play any big teams in that CL run. Beating Tottenham and Atletico isn't that impressive.

You were right, our standards have dropped.

I would rank Tottenham and Atletico as better teams than Leipzig to be honest. Tuchel's PSG beat Atalanta Dortmund and Nagelsmann's Leipzig in comparison.

Potter has only had good success at Ostersund, who's owner got arrested for money laundering. In Swansea he did a poor job (10th with a recently relegated team) and at Brighton he had one decent season out of 3, where they were still one of the lowest scoring teams in the league.

I definitely don't think he's as good as Tuchel, but he's an upgrade on Potter in my opinion.

With Potter time will tell I'd imagine, the same way it did with Lampard.

Who's a better option right now? I'd prefer De Zerbi or maybe Amorim but I doubt either would come immediately. No way Zidane comes here and I think Luis Enrique is a bit overrated to be honest. There is Pochettino but he most likely wants the Spurs job

Good riddance. Clearly out of his depth. Spurs now have the perfect fit for them back on the market.

This should not have happened in the first place though. Boehly should have put his trust in a truly world class manager like Tuchel who was slowly becoming a true Blue.

Boehly & Eghbali must get the next one right at all costs. We need a modern manager willing to take risks and set his team to play on the front foot all the time. Plenty of good managers available like Zidane, Luis Enrique, Nagelsmann, Pochettino etc.

I personally would like to see Nagelsmann here because I really like the German school of football and he is a gutsy manager that has his teams play a positive brand of football. As a football club we must move into the direction of the so called "heavy metal football" even though it involves taking more risks. Football is about scoring goals and having a good time on the pitch.

Should have a immediate replacement lined up. Doubt Todd would take the decision now otherwise. He messed up. If he had been a few weeks earlier TT would be back.

Does anyone know if there's a way to read The Athletic article for free?

There's a poster on Talk Chelsea who posts a fair few of them on that forum.

Some sites there's a loophole where you can stop the loading at the top right (or turn of your WiFi) before it activates the Paywall, I'm not sure if The Athletic is one of them though.

They may need to. Frank Lebouf said on ESPN that managers like Zidane and Simeone would not be interested in the Chelsea job without CL football. Not sure how many top managers that applies too.

It is clear what happened at Bayern has been an influence in Potter going. The full on charm offensive will be on for Nagelsmann now.

I don't think he will be the guy to take us to the top. Let's see if he proves he can.

I think it was either @Munkworth or @Zeta that posted a site that just loads pages behind a paywall, it wasn't too long ago, but I can't find it now!

Probably @Munkworth, he is the forum WUM after all.

Though would make sense if his posted sites links to closeups of cats...

Nagelsmann seems a huge risk. I don’t have any I knowledge or insight about him though. Is it wrong / simplistic to assume he may be of those promising bright stars who peak too soon/ burn out?  AVB vibes?

My gut feeling as well.
