Hey Chelsea fans,

I'm an Atlético de Madrid supporter who has a soft spot for Chelsea. Apologies if my English isn't great.

I know you've already seen Joao in action before, but I wanted to give you a bit of insight into why he didn't work out at our club and why we were really eager for him to leave.

First and foremost: Both Atlético and Chelsea are teams, with fans who value effort combined with skill. We've always been a bit short on the skill side, but you guys usually manage to blend both qualities well.

Here, we used to call Joao "The Hiker" because Simeone always asked him to take his game up a notch and work selflessly for the team. This is something any coach expects in modern football. But Joao never wanted to step up, and seeing him just walking around on the pitch instead of pressing or letting a player slip by because he didn’t want to run earned him that nickname.

Whichever side he plays on is going to be a defensive weak spot. Cucurella is a fighter, but he's going to struggle even more than when covering Mudrik.

Joao's attitude has been pretty low, especially when he went on loan to Barcelona and celebrated scoring against us by kissing their badge. That was a really unprofessional slap in the face.

Pochettino, Potter, Xavi, Simeone, Roberto Martinez, Fernando Santos... they all ended up benching him, and there was never any self-reflection from Joao.

He’s got a huge ego. He never thinks anything is his fault. He wanted to play for Barcelona because he believed their style was perfect for him, where he wouldn’t have to run much. But he was wrong because Xavi's and Guardiola’s teams demand a lot of effort from their forwards in pressing.

If Joao were scoring 25 goals and getting 15 assists per season, maybe you could excuse him from pressing and working hard for the team. But he misses a lot of chances, and his numbers aren't any better than, say, one of our backup players like Ángel Correa.

We’re definitely happy he's gone, and the sale price was great. I love Gallagher, always thought he’d be perfect for our team, so I’m really bummed he’s leaving Chelsea, especially like this.

If you’ve got any questions, I’d be happy to answer them. I might ask you some about Conor if that’s okay.

Cheers!

Just remember that @ATM posted this on August 22, and every single word has rung true about Joao Felix.

Unfortunately my opinion is similar to a few on here already and I really hate kicking one of our own.

Mudryk for example, at least comes across as trying to be/do better but I don't even get that from felix. I've been waiting and hoping he proves me wrong.

Again, I want all our players to succeed but felix is too much of luxury player for me atm. With a massive emphasis on luxury, and when you compare his game to colwills, cucu, or anyone else busting a gut in a game (even mudryk) it just seems to me he is taking someone else's spot. Someone that could fight more for the team. Someone that could give 100% to the game and actually make a difference during the whole period he is on the pitch.

I keep arguing with myself that maybe one moment of magic from felix is enough to justify him being in the squad.

It isnt a loan so there is nothing left but to just wait, pray, hope, etc...and see what happens I guess until the next transfer window pops up.

Most of the fans knew what we were in for when we signed him, a good 20-25M player who has flashes of brilliance, but in lots of games not offering much, and let the big moments slip by. 11 against 10, one would think it's the perfect setting for Felix to use the space and time to craft something, yet he delivered very little apart from the one huge miss. On those day or nights when we were beating the other teams up and no pressure, he'd score a goal and setup some, but I would argue most players off the bench could do that too. He's a luxury, that's why he tried and failed elsewhere.

Deffo has areas to work on, but given he's played barely over 3 full games worth of minutes I'll give him some time to fit in

Already had 6 months here before, not sure why he gets special dispensation to 'fit in' when younger players like Veiga can come straight in from the Swiss league and fit like a glove.

You are putting a jinx on Veiga for his duel with Salah with comments like this RIP...

...think of those of us with Kopitie mates who will suffer eh... lol.

Well I liked him in his first spell here anyway, plus the entire squad is different this time around.

In terms of him vs Veiga, the only challenges so far that Veiga has had to deal with is defending against teams like Barrow, Servette and Gent where he had virtually nothing to do for 90% of the match defensively. Felix gets stuck on the pitch for 20 minutes to try and break down a low block. Plus, even if it was the other way around and Veiga had struggled in the start I'd be willing to give him time to settle in.

Plus, with your profile picture being Mudryk I'd assume you have the patience of a saint 😄

it's not 2019 anymore, Salah doesn't worry me :Connie_threaten:

True, if only Felix could play against these minnows of the lower echelons of football to look good... Wait a minute...

I don't particularly want to speak badly about Veiga because he's been quality, but if you wanna speak about the Gent game we conceded twice with a defence that Veiga was in, including the goal below with some of the worse defending I've seen all season.

You're right, Badiashile (and Casadei) playing everyone onside is ridiculous. Can't believe we got rid of Chalobah and kept that bum.

Not sure what this has to do with number 40, Renato Veiga, holding a perfect defensive line and playing every Gent player offside.

Give him a break.

We're not going to be coming up against a top European side every week.

I don't know if I agree with that. I think the effort has been fine from him, it's his lack of consistency with his end product that I have always had an issue with. If he sorted that out, I don't think anybody would have any issues with Felix's role at the club.

Scott Harris;

Please Believe me. There have been many years watching Joao grow at Atlético and many years seeing how his head works. He tries inconsistently. If you want to be a differential player, each match you play has to be as good as the previous one. There were no bad games for Kanté, there are no bad games for Palmer. The great players, the stars, have 80/90% of very good games and never compromise on effort. They always want to win.

Joao's vision of football is to try to shine. The team doesn't care, the coach doesn't care either. You will always have the same problem because it lies in your head and not in your feet.

Joao Felix is more pretty than good.

I could easily go all NotnowJim about Jackson on Felix. (If you know what I mean)

I know a few have just given him man of the match for last night but I thought between his good bits he was bad.

He just wants to do the spectacular all the time and football isn't like that.

Its all about him and it rubs me up the wrong way.

I would be happy for him to prove me wrong and put in consistently useful performances like last night but lets see what happens. I just don't think he has the work ethic or sacrificial mentality a good team player needs.

Fully agree, took his goals well last night but in between was his usual nonsense. Just before his first goal he received the ball in the box face up, then did a drag back, a weird turn and lost the ball. All while having at least 2 players to drop the ball of to in space. His last 10 minutes was filled with his usual half arsed attempts to chase or win balls, his pressuring was laughable.

I thought he was excellent. He scores two goals, the first one made all by himself with a perfect head flick to Mudryk for the assist. I thought he connected well with Mudryk too. At this current form I would have him ahead of Sancho or Madueke. The criticism is just baffling for last nights game.

I have turned into an adjective… So proud!

But….still need to pick you up on a couple of points.

Although I get the sentiment and potential for felixstration (Felix frustration)-  there is a distinct difference between Felix and Wacko the fraud.

Felix is a natural player, graceful, superb touch, vision, football intelligence. All the these things Wacko is not.

My disdain for Wacko is because, never have I seen a more stupid footballer play for us. He is an utter liability on and off the pitch - and I can’t stand him.

Felix is a bit of a show off glory hunter - but he isn’t stupid.

Agreed, although i would just add that Maresca has to learn that no matter how well Felix has played, how many he has scored, never play him more than 75 minutes. He can have an absolute blinder, score a brace, hattrick of assists, dazzle us all with his ability, with 15 to play, he's still mentally done, he's mentally at the bus stop on his way home. Either play him as a closer or play him from the start and then pull him whilst the best bits of his game are still fresh in people's minds.

Scored a goal from 2 yards out and a huge deflection. Outside of that was largely ineffective. There was a passage of play with himself and a defender running for a loose ball in about the 75th minute in their box and Felix just completely gave up on it about 5 yards from the ball. Instead of challenging the defender and trying to win a penalty, he just stopped his run. Sums him up.

Madueke has been our second best attacker this season and works his arse off in the defensive phase. Not sure why you'd want to drop him?
