Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!

Benfica I applaud you well done!! You absolutely fleeced us!!

The key learning point is to keep Eghbali out of any future transfer negotiations ...  he's basically saddled us with Fernandez and Mudryk for fees at least double what either of them were worth at the time ...

Not trying to instigate anything but I wonder if @Argo still sees a place in the side for him and where if so. Because right now Maresca seem to be going down the Poch route of trying to release him offensively when he's on the pitch but for me Fernandez genuinely looks both unfit and a bit like a recruit from the junior team, like is there anything there to hang our hat (hopes) on? I want to see it but I don't.

Yeah. Bar the odd decent touch, which ALL PL midfielders should have in their locker, he just looks too lightweight for the PL. Lavia alongside Caicedo is the way forward.

It’s Saudi or limited minutes with us. Hate writing anyone off but I don’t see him excelling with us ever.

Our system definitely makes him look a poorer player than he is though.

Lavia did more in the first half hour thsn Enzo has all season. Santos also looks like he’s coming good and looks more suited to the position too.

Ill be surprised if Enzo is with us next season.

He’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

I think if he loses his place to Lavia, he’ll go in the summer. He’s too high profile to stay otherwise. Still think his reputation and age is enough to tempt the likes of PSG and Real Madrid to give us a decent fee - even if I personally dont rate him. At all

If we get £50 million for him we will be lucky.

Not completely accurate numbers by any means, but we’ll probably need around 60-70 million to break even on his remaining book value in the summer. I agree thats a stretch, given that I can’t see too many clubs outside England able to afford that. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see City/Liverpool/Arsenal going for him though, should they view him to fill a specific role in their system

Modric must be nearing the end of his career, hopefully Madrid will want a high profile signing to replace him and come in for Enzo.

Lavia and Caicedo are both far better, A.Santos looks to be developing into a better player and if he's going to be playing advanced i'd rather see Chukwuemeka any day.

£105m lol those first couple of transfer windows under the new ownership were hilarious.

I like your optimism but unless he turns into prime Cesc in the next year or so no chance we get £60 million for him.

Enzo is a good player, my issue is even if we got his prime Benfica/Argentina performances he still wouldn't be the right fit for this team/set up. Under Potter I can see it and no surprise that's when he played his best for us but with how Poch and Enzo want to play I don't see how it will work long term.

Jees Remodez. Please don't go giving Eghbali any ideas about how to make his Fernandez signing work !!! Potter is still available to re-hire LOL

Will be interesting to see how Maresca uses Fernandez moving forwards. I'm hoping benching him was a conscious tactical decision rather then simply doing it because Enzo was tired after the international break.

Every man and his dog can see that Caicedo plus anyone other than Enzo is the way forward. Lavia is the clear choice, but I'd even consider picking KDH, Veiga or Chukwuemeka ahead of Enzo in a midfield two, and any of half a dozen players at #10 ....

I think its without question that balance wise, Lavia+Caicedo is the way to go. We are going to face a lot less shots and win more duels with that pairing (which has been our kryptonite). This is going to result Cucurella becoming that LB to CAM hybrid though as he will be the one pushing up to support Sancho. (Which would be Enzo's role as the #8).

Not sure if you have been paying attention to Santos, but he too is looking perfect for this pivot role alongside Lavia or Caicedo.

PSG have already signed the 20yr old Neves from Enzo’s former club Benfica and he looks a more complete player. Madrid have Valverde, Tchouameni, Camavinga & Bellingham has been moved into a deeper role to accommodate Mbappe. Unless he is going there to hand out drinks in training.

What role? He needs to be played in a system where is deepest and used as a focal point for the build up. Most top teams now build up from the back now. Like someone pointed out he looked best under Potter where he was averaging 70+ passes a game, dropped to 55 under Poch, and he is currently averaging 38 passes per game under Maresca which is way less than Caicedo (47 passes per game).

Almost 200m on Mudryk and Enzo. Christ.

Think it’s crazier that we spent on £175m on the trio of Enzo, Caicedo & Lavia.

I have indeed, and delighted to see him doing very well.

Would love to see a "Thursday" midfield of Santos/Casadei with Chukwuemeka ahead of them. Sadly I think all of them are more likely to be sold than play any meaningful minutes for us !

In a certain system I think he's a good player, I mean we've seen for Argentina how good he can be, but it's gotten to the point where I don't see it working out for him here. His name value and reputation is still high I think interest would be there, but we're looking at a pretty big loss if we were to look to sell in the summer.

It's not a like for like type swap?

I haven't seen him play but I'm reading he's a DM/#6, (so could ease pressure on lavia) but also plays as Cb? Is he any good?

He's young, in line with the rest of our grp.

I personally don't see what Enzo junior offers the team (a few good passes, every now and then) but then again I'm not a qualified coach or have any insight into marecas plans for him, if there are any.

But my eye test and pragmatism , i'd rather have a player to swap with lavia or cb's than someone that may offer a good pass here or there, also chucky might be utilised more as a #8 then instead of Enzo jnr or even felix can fill that role.

Personally I'd much rather just sell him outright to Madrid and get a decent return for him and spend it on a goalkeeper or a position we need more.

We don't really need anyone with Caicedo and Lavia, provided the latter stays fit.

Just don't see that transfer happening. Madrid do not spend money that much anymore.

They've made 2 transfers above 50m Euros in the last 5 years. They are all about free transfers which is why they are probably getting TAA in the summer.

Yeah they'd have to pay something mad for the club to consider. Still think there is a role for him but at the moment he is the odd man out.

Not surprised Real are interested. Since Kroos has left and Modric almost 40, they don't really control the ball as they have done. It's very one dimensional. Play it long to Vinicius/Mbappe.

Is a possible, but unlikely deal. Would need both Enzo to push for it and Tchouameni to be happy to join us/accept our wage structure.

If that happened then likely it would be a Gallagher and Felix, Maatsen and kellyman style deal.

I'd decline solely because we already have Santos. Not to mention a player of Enzo's quality is rare. Just a shame he's been very below standard so far this season.
