Enzo Fernandez - not wanted in England, the Falklands or probably Argentina now

Featured Replies

This is an abysmal stat that only got worse tonight.

35% win rate with him in the side vs an 81% win rate without him.

He's a clear major weakness in that midfield. Mobility is terrible, he can't turn, he's not quick, reactions aren't great, passing isn't as good as some like to make it out to be, physically very weak. It's time to come to terms with the fact that he's not good enough. I was fooled for a long time like many others, I thought that maybe Pochettino was doing a terrible job at getting the best out of him, but nothing is improving.

Win rate is not a real stat in football. There are 22 players on the pitch, it is impossible to reliably use statistics to quantify individual contributions in that way.

The obvious issues with the comparisons in that image are that Fernandez started in one of the worst Chelsea teams in living memory and played against stronger opposition when fit.

It's much more important of a stat for a midfielder though. That is the position that controls a game of football. You can't win many games of football if the midfield doesn't have any control.

I'd decline solely because we already have Santos. Not to mention a player of Enzo's quality is rare. Just a shame he's been very below standard so far this season.

I agree with this point but meaning something different to you Sconnie. He has been here a while now underperforming week in week out. I ma not saying he is sh*t, he's a decent enough player, but quality? Based on what, i am just struggling to see it.

I don't think position matters. There are too many other variables that explain the same data; other players having good/bad games, refereeing, strength of opposition, timing of goals, form, tactics etc. Mathematically speaking this is because football players don't complete enough actions per game to create a large enough sample size that would drown out the statistical noise and variance. Win rate stats like VORP work in interchange sports like baseball, basketball and hockey, because you can directly compare with a replacement player over many, many samples. It doesn't work in football.

In many of the games we lost under Potter/Lampard and early Pochettino, Fernandez was one of the better players; many of the games we won with (and without) him had more to do with Cole Palmer's brilliance than Fernandez's presence or absence.

That is the biggest issue for me - he is not decisive. At worst he is a liability, at best we can say he makes no real difference to the team when he does play. He doesn't control games (which may be a tactical thing) but neither does he make decisive passes, runs or defensive actions. He doesn't make assists nor does he score goals at a rate that is significantly better than Caicedo or Lavia or anyone else really.

I have previously given him a lot of rope because I liked what I saw of him under Potter, but much like Mudryk perhaps one good half against Liverpool is not evidence. And I am still disappointed he is still here at the club after what happened the summer, let alone made its vice-captain.

I genuinely don't know what Enzo's strengths are. I mean real strengths, not long balls played out wide that he plays once a game that sometimes doesn't even reach his target. I want to know what it is he is capable of producing throughout an entire 90+ minutes of football consistently, because we haven't seen that at all in almost two full years now. If he had it, we would have seen it by now.

He's not shown a single bit of improvement since joining. This should put him amongst the other players that has failed to improve since they joined, but Enzo somehow ended up as our vice captain.

In living memory how old are you mate 25 😂. Might have been the worst team since you started following Chelsea from 12,000 miles away sport but there's been a lot worse teams then our current one.

Fair point, I'm lucky Chelsea have been a Premier League club as long as I've been alive, but our second division teams didn't have the luxury of spending a billion pounds.

Just to keep things fair so people don't think i'm biased against certain players, Enzo is also a luxury player and offers next to nothing every time he plays.

If we can get close to breaking even on him we should sell for his sake and our own. The league doesn't suit him, he'd look amazing at Juventus.

Wish him all the best but he should never start if Caicedo or Lavia are available.

Spot on. Would look world class with the pace and tenacity levels in Serie A, Juve are also the only club in that league that will pay a decent fee. I would be pissed if we sell Andrey Santos who looks potentially a world class midfielder just to keep Enzo.

leaving the mother of his children because he wants to f**k about. We signed a proper c**t, didn’t we?

Is that true though? We know anyone can write any old boll*cks on there.

Certainly does not paint him in a good light if true, off the back of the incident in the summer.

"Sorry honey, but I did not get to play jack the lad when I was younger so now I am loaded and famous you sign this, look after the kids while I go sow my wild oats elsewhere".

Better than doing it while married no?

As long as he's still a good father to his kids he can leave an unhappy marriage.

Marriage is a life long commitment.

If the reasoning is because he wants to enjoy himself and sleep about, as is being reported, then no it is not better. It shows he is a weak man that can't keep his word.

If this is the commitment he shows to his life partner, do you really think he'd committed to the club?

I don't believe people should stay in a unhappy marriage just because they made a commitment, especially in this case when he's very young.

No matter how stupid or immature the reason may be, if it's resulting in an unhappy marriage it is best to part ways. A married but unhappy family is not a good environment to raise kids in.  Lots of celebs just let their husband cheat to be honest, I'm guessing she was not okay with that.

Quite frankly I don't expect anyone to be committed to the club that hasn't gone through our academy.
