Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!

Porto? Why?

because they can sign several new players. A team has to have most of the players at a similar level, rather than one eventually unhappy super star and a bunch of good but not world beaters. Spuds wasted most of the Modric money but they could have built a good team. Dortmund used the Dembele money quite well.

If you’re talking about Enzo, then surely is Benfica and not Porto

🚨 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: what’s going on for Enzo Fernández to Chelsea? 🇦🇷

▫️ It was again a tense night of talks between all parties as there’s still no green light from Benfica president Rui Costa to Chelsea proposal.

▪️ Chelsea are offering €120m, same value as the release clause but with payment in multiple installments.

▫️ After optimism on Monday afternoon after new meeting, Chelsea were hoping for breakthrough in the night but no approval from Benfica yet as Rui Costa still hopes to keep Enzo.

▫️ Negotiations will continue in the morning as final decision will be made on Deadline Day for a deal started at the end of December.

#DeadlineDay madness 🤯

The deal has been done. Now they only talk about payment dates and small details and Enzo flies to London later today.

Jorginho has been given permission to travel to Arsenal this morning to finalise his move while the two clubs put the finishing touches on the deal. Not done yet, but looking increasingly likely.

Is this a sign?

This is going to be both very annoying and embarrassing if this deal doesn't get done. And I'm not holing my breath.

Please don't hole your breath. Could be painful..

Anyway this season is this season. We have already tanked in every way. We have Champions League to cheer but otherwise we are heading for 6-7th place finish.

If we see Enzo as a transformative player we have to go for him now because in the summer it might be different. If we don't, we don't have to buy him over the odds at the moment. If we lose Jorginho we can limp to 6-10th place finish with Kova, Gallagher, Mount, Ruben, Kante, Zakaria...plenty of quality and experience for this season. Andrey Santos could also be handy for us.

I feel if our whole crew is in Benfica with a plane we are going to make this happen.

We can’t be stupid enough to let Jorginho go without securing Enzo.  We must be confident this deal is done.

Maybe Fernandez is currently filming his intro video for twitter.

Chelsea and Arsenal have agreed a fee for Jorginho - believed to be between £10m and £12m. That's more than double his book value at #cfc which is about £5m with six months on his contract

Nice, £70-80m transfer. Really helps the books. Almost covers the costs of Enzo. 🤣

I have to admit, the amortisation loophole is extremely clever. Not just becuase it helps us dodge FFP in the short term, but because transfer price inflation means that the fee we'll be paying in 7 years will be tiny in comparison to the player's actual value by then.

I don't think its really a loop hole teams have done this before its not new, just the sheer amount of long contracts is unprecedented.  If you look at Joao Felixs' massive transfer fee 3 years ago, Atletico have amortised that over a 7 year contract and have extended that now by another year.

The thing is this isn't just some magic trick to get all the players you want without spending there are risks attached to these long contracts.  If we aren't careful we could have just spent £600m on bunch of Bakayokos and Lukakus that we can't shift for the next 7 years, reducing the amount of future transfers we can make because we can't get these players off the books.

Don't know if amortisation was about back in the day but remember Denisons record transfer to Betis? That was a 10 year contract!

Really hope we wrap up the deal today.

We can’t afford to come out of this transfer window strengthening a rival’s midfield and weakening ours by having a player less.

I assume they must be fairly confident on Enzo to sign off Jorginho to Arsenal.

Surely worst case we offer to pay the whole release clause today and then even Rui Costa can’t stop it…

If we identify players other than Enzo that we could potentially get in the summer we don't have to buy him to save our season. We don't have to save this current season as nothing really is to be salvaged.

Our CL bid maybe... but you can't really bank on winning the CL even if you buy players like Enzo.

People say Bellingham and Enzo are the young midfielders everyone is after. If so, we are doing the Right stuff as we speak.

I hope we get this over line naturally.

Enzo Fernández is getting closer to staying. (@Record_Portugal) #CFC

Huge blow for Chelsea as they see their huge €120m offer rejected by Benfica.

Not sure if this is true or not, we’ll see.

Benfica have lined up a replacement for Enzo Fernandez and are trying to close a deal.

Benfica have lined up a replacement for Enzo Fernandez and are trying to close a deal. Presumably that will then allow Chelsea to do their thing...

Wouldn’t trust Portuguese sources that want him to stay. Also dont thing the club willl sell jorghi if there wasn’t a deal in place.

Yep, all makes sense.

My slight concern is today we have a great chance of getting a top midfielder but in the summer we will be competing with all the big clubs so the likelihood of success goes down dramatically IMO, same scenario with Bellingham I feel.

Anyway, I’m hopeful we can pull it off, we can always use the Jorginho money towards it if push comes to shove and we are forced to pay the whole release clause today lol.

Chelsea and Benfica are not close to reaching an agreement for Enzo Fernández, and, at this time, the transfer looks complicated despite the offer of €120 million in six payments.

Chelsea continue trying to unlock the departure of the Argentine.
