January 31, 20233 yr Skybet odds have moved out from yesterday's 1/12 to now 8/11, which is quite a shift ... albeit still the "most likely" outcome is a transfer, but only marginally from the other possibility of "stays at Benfica".

Chelsea continue trying to unlock the departure of the Argentine. #CFC (@CLMerlo) This is false, its 1 major payment and 4 smaller installements. Edited January 31, 20233 yr by PrinceOfPortugal
January 31, 20233 yr More exciting than the actual game. who was our last great Argentinian midfielder. Would that be Juan Sebastian veron? Edited January 31, 20233 yr by ozboy

You could maybe argue Mascherano, different profile of "great midfielder" and can't really remember if he played much CB for Pool like he did for Barcelona later but still an excellent destroyer imo.
January 31, 20233 yr Losing Jorginho to a direct rival without securing a midfield replacement would actually be a disgrace. Surely this means we're confident this will happen?

January 31, 20233 yr I just can't see this happening to be honest, it's midday already and nothing more seems to have happened. That's half of the day gone.

Reason is Chelsea wants to pay 70€ million now and rest split to 4 years unevenly, probably due to financial planning by Chelsea. Now as Jorginho deal is done, Chelsea will make Mr. Costa happy and agree to his asking.

If it is just a disagreement over the payment plan you would think they could work something out. Perhaps Boehly first needs to wrap up a couple of player sales in order to balance books for FFP. If there is more money up front it won't fit as well with his 7 year plan in that respect. That being said it feels as though we have hit a bit of a roadblock based on the way the story has gone quite today so I am not too confident at this point.

Nothing else.
January 31, 20233 yr Rui Costas office must be absolutely packed to the rafters. There are literally dozens and dozens of people who seem to know exactly the situation in the negotiations. No wonder it's getting nowhere if they are spending more time keeping legions of Twitter based sports 'journalists' up to date on proceedings than transferring the player.

January 31, 20233 yr RTP is the equivalent of BBC in Portugal isn't it? In that case he's staying and we are complete idiots for letting Jorginho leave.
January 31, 20233 yr Its all twitter waffle. Been down this road on so many occasions by now. Is Frenkie De Jong available!
January 31, 20233 yr If I had to guess, we're waiting because Benfica need to line up a replacement and/or Chelsea need to find some more funds to bump up the initial payment
