Sanchez is a very good keeper and much much better than Kepa. If he signs I’d be amazed if he wasn’t first choice pretty quickly. 

You know that season long Kepa v Mendy debate that still continues in the Kepa thread; I will say this….

Mendy is better than Sanchez!

Thinking this through, this could be a face saving opportunity for us on the Caicedo deal.

If we end up paying say £15m for Sanchez and Brighton accept  £85m plus £5m for Caicedo they have got their £100m and we've saved face because we haven't lost that negotiation.

With their other keeper already signed and the public falling out between Sanchez and de Zerbi they have got themselves in a situation where there isn't a lot of value in Sanchez now anyway.

This would be a pointless signing. Not an upgrade on what we have, and I would argue he is no better than the keeper we just sold. Sanchez is just more of the same problem we already have.

Problem is why pay for a goalie they were willing to give out on loan to other clubs? We are just helping them take out their garbage to dump on our squad with much improved pay terms. He doesn’t in anyway improve us, just an extra body we will struggle to move on down the line.

That is becuase you think he is sh*t. Its not that they think he is sh*t, he has had a falling out with de Zerbi, allegedly, and they think Steele is calmer on the ball in de Zerbi teasing still of football.

He is better that Bettinelli and arguably better than Kepa. Neither of them are good enough, but the team here are focussing on other areas apparently. As a back up keeper he may well work out fine and as i say, it saves face for the board and gets them out of an impasse in getting Caicedo over the line. Or they cough another 10-15m on Caicedo and either still need a back up keeper or go with Kepa/Betinelli.

Beach - Too young and inexperienced to say at the moment.

Slonina - needs a decent loan ot get up to the pace of what will be required.

Bergstrom - Don't dislike totally but still seems a bit stiff, kicking not brilliant and a lot comes back off of him currently.

Cumming - probably nearest and would keep here playing for the U21's and can be cover should both keepers have injuries.

Bettinelli - Not good enough and would probably move on if possible.

That sounds like a realistic assessment to me.

And of course it makes perfect sense that we gave Bettinelli a contract to 2026 LOL

whether it’s to do with a falling out or not, Sanchez getting dropped for Steele is very much akin to if Kepa got dropped for Bettinelli.

Bettinelli is an emergency keeper, not good enough to start or be second choice but in the rare instance that both the first and second choice keepers are injured then he can come in and do a job. Professional attitude and good to have around the training ground, city have Carson for this, United have Heaton just makes sense to have an experienced head for emergency cover.

In my opinion he’s an awful keeper, don’t honestly know what he’s good at . 

Going against the general feeling here but price dependant I think he’s a good signing. Probably better than Kepa and you would assume would be happy being second choice at Chelsea long term.

If it’s less than 10m and helps us get Moises then ok. Hopefully he and Kepa push each other, so one becomes solid at least

He’s better than what we have imo although it’s not exactly showing much ambition either.

If it doesn’t help us get caicedo from Brighton for 85m though I’d look elsewhere for another cheap back up

There really aren't many top GKs out there and we may have to wait until Jan or next year to bring in a top one. People on social media have been mentioning Mike Maignan, but I've never watched him so no idea how good he is. Problem is, he'll cost a lot no doubt. We need to focus on other areas. We lacked goals last season. We had a decent defensive record under Potter for the most part, so it wasn't necessarily the defence, but more we couldn't create and score goals. I'd rather we focus on creating goals and attack.

I don't think we're winning anything with either of these keepers, and we possibly could with Maignan.

I get the point regarding cost and i am not necessarily disagreeing. Just waiting for the howls of derision when Sloboszlai (Spelling) hits a routine 20 yarder past jelly wrists in the first 10 mins when we play the scouse in two weeks.

Ederson, Alisson, Courtois, Cech, Schmeichel and the list goes on. 

Kepa is not that nor is Sanchez if Brighton is willing to let him go. 

Our problem at this moment however is not to think about the Premier League Trophy.

Leicester won with Schmeichel junior who was average at best.

Ederson is well short of being a brilliant keeper. The others fair enough.

62.3 % save percentage in the PL last season. Only 4 keepers in the PL were worse than that !

Even Mendy in the worst form of his career was 2 points better than Ederson.

No he wasnt, he left and went to who, that shows how good he was. With a dearth of good keepers no one in the prem was interested in him.
