Just hope these contracts (in particular this one) are mostly bonuses incentivised, if he’s gonna be on anywhere near 100k pw as a baseline then it would quite the cause for concern to put it mildly.
August 5, 20232 yr Confirmed by the club, 7 years contract. I suppose all these lengthy contracts have to do with FFP, otherwise I’m not sure why the do it (having the experience with Kepa and Lukaku contracts). https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/sanchez-seals-blues-switch

August 5, 20232 yr As I see it we really can't bring in a new high cost keeper (fee and wages) if we still have Kepa, and there looks very little chance of moving him on unfortunately.

Over 5 years. Used to be 8 before UEFA closed the loophole Chelsea found and exploited.
August 13, 20232 yr Was expecting something in this thread this evening, but we are all that bowled over with the purchase, it was still sitting in the rumours forum! Did about enough today, a few dodgy moments, and a few decent moments; including when he dived for a high shot and nearly ended up on the other side of the west stand! ....if it was Kepa today, he would've been crucified, so guessing people were happy with his first match today!

Only seen limited highlights but got lucky Nunez had a Lukaku touch after his dodgy pass, and should have saved the Diaz goal. No fault on the Salah disallowed goal, is Salah.
August 13, 20232 yr Yes, I thought he got away with one today, Nunez should have controlled the ball and that would have been a goal. It's a new season, maybe we deserved a bit of luck after the shocking last season, but Sanchez needs to do better in future. Opposing teams would have watched this and press hard on him in games to come.
August 13, 20232 yr Like I said in the match thread, he should have cost us the match with his error. What saved him was that Nunez has the same first touch as Lukaku.
August 13, 20232 yr We say he could have cost us the match, but the should have been winner also came from a type of claim Kepa would never have made in a million years.

Lots of focus on his terrible de gea style kick out to his brand new team mates but virtually no-one noticed how he cleanly caught a corner or free kick in a very crowded area. Kepa would not have caught that ball. Sanchez couldn't have expected to play this game, so he done alright in my book.

August 14, 20232 yr Just an average keeper, don't think he was signed to be our long term number one. If Kepa is on his way out i hope we're looking for a genuine number one.

Like who, there doesn't seem to be many 'world class' keepers available, and if we go looking expect Chelsea to be the first to pay £100m for him.

Get to January and reassess and see if anyone is having a breakout season. I agree that the options are bleak on the market currently. If Sanchez gets injured, who starts for us atm?

August 14, 20232 yr Bloke has played three games (all of them in March/April) since February, with no games (no competitive games, no friendlies, no U21 appearances) in the last four months. If you were expecting a 10/10 performance, you were expecting too much.

August 14, 20232 yr Just now, RIP Mourinho said: Isn't that because he got dropped for Steele though? Must be doing something wrong for that to happen. He made a few mistakes, most noticable against Palace, and also looked quite uncomfortable playing some sort of short passing game within his own penalty area. He has pretty good feet and distribution, but this "playing tiki taka in your own box" is not something that suits him. I also don't think Rob Sanchez personality was a good match with De Zerbis. Sanchez want to mr Cool and Collected and RDZ wants players to be mr Fierce and Intense. Shouldn't be a problem with Pochettino who personality wise seems more Potter than Zerbi.

Actually, it didn't go unnoticed by the crowd, he did cleanly got to that cross in the Shed End and we were all in awe.
August 14, 20232 yr I thought he was a little bit iffy in close combat, other than that, he done his job!
August 14, 20232 yr I think the whole team did well, only 20 - 25 mins, to come to terms with the FIRST competetive match they've played together. Didn't help being the dippers either, baptism of fire. I expected teething problems for about 5 - 6 games. Once they're really in their stride, however long that takes, i think they will be a formidable team, one which no one will want to try to compete with. With Sanchez my first thought was christ he's useless, both myself and my daughter, said Kepa WOULD have stopped the goal. BUT as he settled in and realised he'd got a pretty good defence in front of him he grew much more self assured. Only time will tell, but the future does look rosy eventually.
