I also suspect that with Enzo's football compared to Poch's, our backline won't be under the chaotic pressure we saw time and time again. That being said, Enzo believing Sanchez is the answer just puts more question marks on his judgment. I can see similar situations like Arsenal at home where we could control the entire match and then Sanchez has a bozo moment that lets the opposition back in. On the flip side a better coached system will mitigate these moments (although not eliminate them entirely) as they'd be more passing options and set structures around goal kicks and passbacks. I read that the Arsenal mistake (which personally I think Enzo and Gallagher have a large part of the blame also) came due to Poch/the coaches insisting he kept playing out even when it wasn't a good idea.

Ofcourse his errors are well documented but he's also pretty good at line breaking passes (see the build up to Sterling's sitter vs Leicester as prime example) and I shared a thread after the City game pointing out he was a key reason as to why we were breaking their press so well.
June 3, 20242 yr [Fabrizio Romano] Understand Chelsea new coach Maresca told the board that he really likes Roberto Sánchez. he believes Robert is ready for next phase of his career. . . . ball boy? Chelsea expect Sánchez to stay at the club this summer. But why? Does this just mean, they looked at some keepers and couldnt find one they liked so they just will stick with what we got? June 4, 20242 yr I’m going to call bullsh*t on the Sanchez being no 1 rumours. Surely Enzo knows he can’t do what is expected. Neither can Petrovic but I rate him much higher. In a perfect scenario we would sell Sanchez, have Petrovic as back up and sign a top class keeper.

We were linked with keepers continuously and then straight after his announcement it seems to have turned 180 degrees. Jorgensen, Hermansen, Valles, Mamardashvilli, all linked and then suddenly Sanchez and Petrovic are fine (Note both are Winstanley and Stewart signings)

Brief the media that our new ball playing manager is happy with his options, despite concern we were going to desperate for one. Easier to play off interest in other keepers as 'nice to have' and not as desperate as a week ago
June 4, 20242 yr Sanchez would be an excellent keeper if he could play with his feet. Unfortunately it is his weakest point. Shot stopping, crosses etc he is really good. I can’t see Maresca going for Sanchez. Seems an odd fit.
July 24, 20241 yr Read this filled me with dread on the back of what we saw with Sanchez having a pair last season... wheres the burbon, its early evening and i need a big drink.. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/needs-pair-chelsea-man-explains-113000706.html

He's up for the fight, that's good to hear, whether he's capable of fighting is what we'll find out. Perhaps Mareasca will have him playing out from the back like a clubfooted Messi... the team does need to do more fighting talk and backing it up. This is a good start I guess.

I'm sure he's capable of fighting but it's whether he's capable of playing with the ball at his feet. I hope I'm not over exaggerating but he was absolutely shocking last season - worst keeper I've seen playing out from the back. Petrovic might not be a world beater but I thought he was solid enough and quite liked him.
July 24, 20241 yr I suffered ring piece flutter every time the ball was passed back to him last season. Never felt that with Petrovic.

July 27, 20241 yr Really enjoyed his new role of being a GK/CB, passing out of the back, smashing every long ball out of play, being one bad pass from the opposition scoring without a keeper in goal. Modern football is really f**king weird.

Kept thinking it's open goal for anyone that has a split second over our player receiving that pass, and sanchez ain't that accurate anyway.
July 28, 20241 yr Hopefully Jorgensen is actually competent, at least. Sanchez, for me, makes me wish Kepa was back in goal.
