Robert Sanchez joins Chelsea

All that money spent and looks like this excuse of a football player is keeping goal for Moresca. It’s unfathomable really just like their whole player acquisition strategy, all that money spent with nothing more than 2 or 3 really good players that improve the first team to show for it so far. As for the other goalie coming in from Villarreal-  Jorgensen, why another prospect when the team needs a proper world class keeper?

We will never likely see a winning team put together under this transfer strategy. squad size is in low 40s now, that says it all really.

Can someone explain the notion that Sanchez is better with his feet than Petrovic? I read that a few times since Enzo came in but i don't see it. Petrovic may have booted it high up field sometimes but is that really so bad?

I am always nervous with Sanchez, especially when it comes to passing...

Hopefully this Jorgensen guy will be better than both of them !

I find it hard to get excited about either of Petrovic or Sanchez in comparison to our previous top class keepers like Cudicini, Cech and Courtois. The rot started with the Kepa signing I guess, with a brief respite from the first 60 odd games of Mendy.

Maresca has seen it as well, hence the move for this other keeper. It kind of highlights that this apparent encyclopedic knowledge of each of the players that Maresca mentioned at his interview was actually press waffle.

He is just a cut price option and not the GK the club was after. They enquired about the Leicester goalie (which is weird in itself) and were quoted £40m, so they opted for him.

Sanchez is a better passer but has way worse composure under any sort of pressure which makes his passing irrelevant. Petrovic is much better under pressure even if his passing isn't as expansive as Sanchez's.

When his booting up the field results in Cole Palmer fighting for headers against Van Dijk and Konate, yes.

This is something that can be coached instead of wasting money on another average GK or keeping Sanchez.

It's much easier to teach Petrovic to pass in short circuits than it is to get Sanchez to be a competent goalkeeper.

Would much rather our 6ft 2 winger be challenging for a header he'll likely lose 70 yards from our goal than have Sanchez passing it directly to their attackers on the edge of our own box or pumping it out of play for a throwing 10 yards from our own corner flag.

In the context of that specific game at Anfield he may aswell have been passing it in dangerous areas as Liverpool just swept up the long balls then had another chance again within seconds (although granted as @Remodez alluded to a lot of that blame has to be placed on Poch).

If it weren't for Nunez's inexplicably poor finishing and Christo's performance we'd have troubled the PL record loss that night.

Ultimately though both go too far with their distribution just in different ways, just got to hope Jorgenson turns into the appropriate middle ground.

Didn't we have a back line of:

Chilwell Badiashile Silva Disasi

Not sure which one you'd have wanted Petrovic to be playing it short to that specific game.

I'm old fashioned on this, got no problem with GK boot it long when under pressure. What's the worst could happen? The other team get the ball and attempt to play it out, they won't score directly from it as long as our players do the basics of defending. The type of suicidal passes Sanchez does every other game cost goals in a matter of seconds, nobody has a chance to rescue the situation.

If we signed the new GK based on his passing ability, think we will have another long hard season ( probably will anyway)

Based on the transfer moves this summer (assuming we sign this new young keeper from Villareal) it looks like Sanchez will start as first choice again this season. Presumably Petrovic will be moved on loan, or even sold? My main worry with Sanchez is that he always seems to have a lapse of concentration in him.

I have not been following pre-season that closely : Is Petrovic injured or why is Sanchez playing almost all the matches?

Petrovic has been exiled mate, as they think it's a better idea to use a keeper that bursts into the Michael Flatley every time the ball is at his feet!

This club man, make it make sense!

They said Petrovic has a minor injury, but the truth is either the directors or manager don't fancy him. He's been linked with a move away.

We need to offload Petrovic in order to be able to fund the two new keepers who are set to replace him because he needs offloading to make way for the two new keepers 🥴

The web is a weird and wild place.

Case in point.... I found this image of some guy called "nicolas jackson", who was wearing a shirt with the name of some guy called "Simplymo", and who was trying to evade getting shot with a bow and arrow by some guy called "nonotnowjim.".... so weird!
