Not sure I can remember us having much more than two either until Trippier helped us out tbh.

You say that but the comparisons between their night and ours are extremely similar, even to the full backs starting, the injuries, the changes, our benches, their goal from our cock up, ours from theirs.

The only significant difference is that they didn't need to attack us and so defended throughout whilst we had all possession but no idea how to finish. The result is the same, a paucity of efforts on targets.

So much, so similar. Strange then that the media comments are so dissimilar between the two teams.

It's fking outrageous.

Didn't you use to hate sideways football? That's exactly what that was.

And I do give the team some credit but my main gripe is still with the manager for his dispositions.

Sideways football? We had plenty of the ball into and around their box, what we didn't have, again, was the cutting edge to make it count. Until we find that natural finisher that will continue to be our problem. But the rest of it up to the finishing, was there.

I disagree but fair enough.

I think we can and should be much better than we are. There's no reason for 4 CBs against a knackered Newcastle side who's played every three days for months for example so if the rest of the season is now actually about building for next season and the future then one needs to have one eye on performances and one on the results in my opinion.

And all I actually said to begin with was that Poch should be thankful from the double assist from Trippier which did save our arse with two minutes left on the clock.

Tbf Newcastle injuries are horrendous and worse than Chelsea's and that's with a smaller squad and playing 2 games a week. Newcastle was always going to be tired and there best attacking sub was Ritchie. Chelsea should be jealous of the way Newcastle is run and the transfers which they have done.

Nah 😆

Yes I agree.

But the billion spent and ownership arrogance was never going to put us in a great place with the media so I don't listen much to them anymore tbh.

This is it.

If we could underpin this with constant movement off the ball and better care of the ball when passing we would be a completely different proposition.

I was always taught that the run makes the pass not the other way about. It's simple but true. Even our equaliser,  Mudryk gets it due to his pace. He is actually caught on his heels and is 10 yards outside of the box when the ball is played in.

For me it's not all about sprints and doggies,  but just constant movement and running off the ball. Then you get results when throw balls into an area. Currently our players are waiting to see where the ball goes before making the run, which of course is too late, so the ball doesn't come.

Massively gets on my tits as it really could be improved so quickly.

It's not worse than ours though. We have had this for 3 years non stop and it doesn't even get a mention. When it is bought up, all we get is "but they have spent a billion". They are going through a tricky period, but compared to our injuries over the past 3 years, it's nothing.

Unfortunately I missed this one, just watched the highlights and I must say our penalties were all inch perfect, well done to the lads they took them like seasoned vets.

Also, Petrovic is the truth! What a cracking save, and almost had them all bar one.

So happy for Misha as well, loved seeing the fire when he went after the nutcase Bruno.

Come on Chels!

Bringing on Nkunku and Broja was just abit different to Ritchie.

Not saying you're wrong but we can't keep letting the narrative overshadow us. When we cross the line it's just football.. Nobody harks on about Pep bombing off his defence and spending a quarter of billion to replace them when he joined City.

Yes our owners are disingenuous clowns and we will always be the media anti christ now because of the spending, but all we can do is compete when we cross the line.

Eddie and the Hot Rods are the media darlings today. It was only a year ago Gary Neville was pontificating about human rights and the shady ownership.

Chelsea have spent a billion and are still sh*t, there should be no sympathy for the club including any from Chelsea supporters, the Americans have wasted sh*t loads of money. Newcastle have a smaller squad and played more games so they was always going to be tired. They are one of the clubs who have actually made good transfers.

I think Eddie Howe played a smart game. He did not have St. James Park to back them up, and with plenty of players half fit he went with a low block and counter, which got them in the lead and were a late error from seeing it through.

He knew we have issues with that and it almost paid off. Thankfully Tripper made that error.

Was good to see Gusto at RB and Maatsen at LB. I know we lack height when we do that, but they offer so much to us offensively.

Ok you play at City, Liverpool or, I guess, Aston Villa and you want to set up with Colwill and Disasi I get it.

But we are Chelsea, most games we should be after sides, chasing goals, burying them. Proper attacking quality Full backs make such a difference and we have left Maatsen out for so long. Will Pochettino finally give him a chance now Marc is down along with Ben? Please do!

Cracking pens, cracking pen save. Deserved win, on we go!

Let's not forget this is by choice. Newcastle are massively richer than we are. Whilst us spending a billion and still being sh*t is undoubtedly true, Newcastle being unfortunate for having a smaller squad that are now tired is totally down to them as they are owned by a country

Of course we can have sympathy for our injury issues. You can't tell me you have seen anything in football like you have seen with our club for the past 3 years. You say we shouldn't have sympathy because of the money spent, but why does that matter when most of that investment has been injured and we have been filling the bench up with kids most games? You can criticise the money spent and quality of football and still feel sympathy for the injury problems we have had.

It also doesn't matter how much you spend, constant injuries will dramatically damage your chances of success. Look at Liverpool a few seasons back, or even City this season. City without De Bruyne, Stones and Rodri at times has seen them drop points they would never drop if they had these players fit.

It can also be argued that Newcastle only have themselves to blame. Nobody forced them to go into the season with a small squad.

Yeah very true, I'm one who believes Nkunku will make a difference so I'm looking forward to seeing him up to speed.

Same here, although I am worried that if we don't get our mojo working soon we will start losing important players again due to over use. Fully expecting Palmer to get an injury soon just due to constant over use.

Well that's what champions league football, injuries and ffp brings. Ffp let's the big clubs stay at the top but for only so long, it will either work out for Chelsea or go badly very quickly.
