October 29, 20241 yr Author Funny enough United would need yet another rebuild to make the team in Amorim's image. United don't have wing backs. United don't have fast CBs United don't have inside wingers/CAMs
October 29, 20241 yr Annoyingly, I think INEOS will sort out United, especially with the appointment of Dan Ashworth. He’s good. Their last few appointments have been poor choices - ETH, Jose, Ole. Just not good enough. Amoirim I think will be a good appointment for them. Highly rated.
October 29, 20241 yr How come everyone gets a new manager bounce but we had to go through Potter, Lampard, and Poch without anything? But surely they gotta be worried about us, more than us being fearful of the effects of a new manager? Don't want them thrashing Leicester tomorrow either and come into our game brimming with confidence . I'd love the Foxes to turn the f**kers over. Come on you BLUES!

I once saw a stat indicating that the new manager bounce is a furphy. Yes, it happens. More often it doesn't.

(Hadn't heard the word 'furphy' before - thanks). This obviously doesn't take into account the quality of the side the manager took over nor the quality of their opposition. https://www.olbg.com/blogs/new-manager-bounce "OFF TO A PERFECT START Another angle that we looked at, was whether our 161 managers got off to the perfect start and by this, we mean whether they earned three points after their first game in charge: First Game Total % W 59 36.42% D 40 24.69% L 63 38.89% Total 162 100.00% Just 59 out of the 162 (36.42%) managed to get the better of their opposition first time out and for those looking for bounce, 63 out of the 161 sample (38.89%) actually had to make do with a defeat instead."

I'd say the new manager bounce is probably perceived as a truth, because it also takes a draw as a positive result, considering the side that sacked their manager probably had an awful run of consecutive losses.

Sanchez and Fofana need to be phased out in my opinion. Same way as Enzo. Fofana is worth persevering with I think. Enzo has been playing every game and deserves to be out of the team just now but Fofana is still very early into his comeback. I look at him and I don’t think his issue is the injuries. I think it’s now about getting fitter and believing he’s back. He’s still quick which is a good sign I think. His ceiling is just as high as Colwill’s. Obviously agree re Sanchez

I think it's about perception. A win, even a draw, even an improved performance after a run of dire form is noticed, reported on. Thus feeding the myth. While there are, obviously, cases of truth. Eg, Cooper taking Forest from the relegation zone to promotion in less than a season but the reasons are many and varied.

It's rare but it happens, especially when the managers can quickly come up with plans that use the best qualities of the team in the short term
October 30, 20241 yr First of all the situation of the squad and possible tensions in it has a lot to do with it. I can only predict how MU players reacted when they found out Dutch robot got an extension to his contract. Most of them probably thought he'd be replaced in the summer. So much energy is released when the new situation arises. Players that have been left on the side will have tons of energy. Players don't have to talk about the situation behind the managers back. I am sure MU will come flying out of the gate against us.
October 30, 20241 yr I think it's more sbout the manager coming in and what he can do with the team he has.

If the new manager or ruud can utilise this energy then I can imagine its going to be a fkn hard game. Ugh. Edited October 30, 20241 yr by Simplymo

True, just look when Tuchel took over. I think the first game was a draw and after that well you know...

Believe it or not up until around the Leti tie i remember arguing against people who genuinely believed the performances (under TT) weren't improving despite the improved results.

I might be wrong, but didn't TT start off with a favourable run of fairly easily beatable opponents ?. Anyway, despite the CL win, I hated the way we played, was happy to see him go, especially after the start to the season. Little did I know a LOT worse was to follow after he was sacked!

He did (apart from Spurs) but it was clear early on there was a lot more structure to our play and we were playing through the middle more (compared to the cross and hope ball with Frank post lockdown).
October 30, 20241 yr He's somehow made us a worse team defensively. Every single game we make so many mistakes at the back and concede from it. We either give it away in stupid areas or we just straight can't defend simple situations. All he says is "these things happen because of the way we play"........yet no other team gives away as many goals as this from these situations. We are quite simply one of the worst at it in the league. Even Southampton make fewer mistakes in these areas.
October 30, 20241 yr Author Risked a heavily rotated lineup and it failed. The biggest disparity between the A team and B team is understanding and work rate. The latter very blatant. They just weren’t up for it. All is forgiven if we win Sunday. And we must. Edited October 30, 20241 yr by Sconnie Blue
October 30, 20241 yr How can Maresca say Chilwell doesn't suit the style of football he wants us to play when almost every defender looks out of place in his team? The only ones that are doing well in this system are Cucurella and Colwill, and Colwill even has a few mistakes in him. He protects the likes of Sanchez from criticism and says it's not Sanchez's fault because he is asking him to play that way. Okay, then play Chilwell, and let's see you make those same excuses for his mistakes. That won't happen though. It's just rubbish from Maresca. He's not fooling me at all. He's trying to play it like he knows what he is talking about, but the reality is that his defensive tactics, his off the ball tactics and his tactics playing it out of the back are the biggest things holding us back. We are now out of 1 cup competition because of it, and if we persist with it, there will no doubt be more damage inflicted upon us going forward. The best part about our game is attack, which doesn't really feel all that much like it has anything to do with Maresca at all. It's mostly just a continuation on how things were improving under Pochettino.

The constant giving away of soft goals is infuriating and it will cost us over the course of the season. You simply cannot keep out scoring everyone.
October 30, 20241 yr I'm clinging onto the hope he doesn't publicly want to slate the likes of Sanchez, Disasi, Badiashaile etc... And then in the January transfer window he kicks up an almighty fuss with the board (with video evidence) and says if you really want us to challenge for trophies again we urgently need to upgrade on this lot. That's the only thing that would make sense to me. Edited October 30, 20241 yr by 2211
October 31, 20241 yr Feel bad for those that traveled so far only for thar garbage showing. Maresca and the players let them all down.
October 31, 20241 yr Author Let’s be honest this B team is just the result of our sporting director’s failures.
October 31, 20241 yr That’s fully on Maresca completely his fault. I praise him all the time but now that’s on him fully here. Completely bizarre he didn’t try to win this. Then going to United and Sunday and losing will add to his headache
