Jadon Sancho

Didn't come off for Sancho today.  I thought he had more pace than we are seeing, and once he beats his man expected him to push on.  He does the hard work then cuts back.  Appears to be at best when players run close off the ball and he unlocks the space.

I don’t think he was poor at all, he did cut back a lot but most of his one twos and passes into the box came off we just didn’t make the most of it.

He was perfectly fine but this just wasn’t the sort of game you needed him for.

He played as well as all our other attackers today never loses the ball stupidly and has great pass touch in tight places. All over attackers were stifled today even though we scored.

I don't know if it is a confidence thing because of his time at United or lack of self-belief, but he defo is withdrawn from really taking on his man. I mean, even last season he gave Mendes a torrid time who is one of the best defensive LB and fastest LB around. He defo can do it and would like to see him do this more. He has the ability. He was slightly conservative and he has started well. But just want more from him and him to attack his opponent the same way Madueke does.

He's looked good for us so far, but he was absolutely torrid at United.

You can't pin it all on the system, the manager, the environment, etc. There are a lot of things Jadon still needs to work on, and consistency to me looked like one of his biggest issues throughout his career.

And in fairness, I can live with inconsistency too, as long as he's putting in some good performances now and getting us results. Until then I'm still going to be wary of him.

The thing is he looks very capable of the 1vs1 work instead of always coming back and passing on the inside. Is it a confidence thing? Is he worried to try then losing the ball? Maybe he's embarrassed to let his team down?

No idea 🤷‍♂️

Maybe just needs a kick in the arse and to be told to "fk it, just go for it and try".

I’ve actually been really impressed with Sancho so far, he probably needs to be a little more Madueke in the same vein that Madueke needs to be a bit more Sancho.

His passing is elite, his decision making is top draw and so far he’s made us a better side being in the lineup.
We’ve had Utd’s pants down with this one.

He also still set up a few half chances, like the one midway through second half where he pulled it back to Noni who was around the penalty box. If Noni kept his shot down, we would be saying Sancho is a game changer.

I feel there are very fine margins for players who's main output is creating chances - their impact on the game relies on the finishing of others.

He has never been blessed with speed. Good dribbler, good close control, but going on the outside, going past defenders, isn't his thing unfortunately.

I totally agree with Cascarino's view on him. Sancho needs to be more like Madueke. Believe in himself and go for it.

Tbh I like the balance. Sancho the support winger and Madueke the killer.

Jeez, our current lot look like babies next to them. Lol

I think I had half a dozen posters of just robben that never came down or changed for years.

Ah found times, those two were great, a joy to watch.

Can Sancho reach Duffs level of work rate and delivering some goals? I hope so.

Can Noni reach Robbens level? I really highly doubt it. Robben was special. If not for Hazard he would be our best wide forward of the Roman era, imo.

I'll be amazed if Sancho finds Duff's level, doesnt have Duff's scamper and goal output... but could get there.

Robben was the king of the chop back, CHO does similar to less effect, Noni shares a PSV past if im not mistaken, do think Noni has a lot more to ofer but Robben was proper special.

Robben himself said he regrets leaving Chelsea, would have loved for him to stay longer than he did.

BTW, Sancho needs 18 more career goals to beat Duff's career total. I don't think goal output is an issue for him just needs to keep his mentality right.

Think there's similarities between em, look, just want Sancho to succeed, done more in four games than Felix has in two stints with us so he's on the right track.

Good stat that by the way.

I've had no issues with Sancho so far, I just thought the Forest game was the wrong one for him. They sat deep and we needed players that would run at and stretch the defence, but we only had that from one side.

Ditto...he still had a lot to offer too.
