I don't either, but I would trust him in a more attacking role to reflect his ability better vs being the #8 in Maresca's football.

Totally with you there Sconnie. Just hope he gets the minutes to show it.

So, with this in mind, are the two of you suggesting Palmer moves out to the left side of the attack? So Carney comes in to the 10,and Noni on the right?

Competes with Felix at CAM when Palmer needs a rest.

Am I wrong in saying that when you consider our depth (and the fact the Champions League clubs will be in hell come Oct-Jan) that we should at minimum win 2 trophies this season?

Given City have lost Rodri and Arsenal have underwhelming attacking options, if we can wind out of the next three games with 7 points I may start deluding myself into thinking we can mount an outside title challenge.

The Nkunku hat trick was all well and good but can he do it on a cold Tuesday night against Barrow?

Oh hang on...

Pretty warm tonight.

Ah I see. So neither of you are advocating for a behind the front man 3 of Palmer, Noni and Carney then. Fair enough.

Carney has a lot of talent. Hope he can stay healthy. He may be in a different position had he not got injured at West Ham last season.

But I wouldn't be adverse to a Palmer, Carney, Sancho three with Nkunku up top. With zJackson,  Noni, Felix and Neto ready to come on. That's a pretty potent attack, and pretty much all of those pieces can be juggled around.

You want at least one player to run behind

Dispatched barrow and Nkunku's performance should give some food for thought to the manager. Really would like to see him starting on the left.

Think Neto is going to take a few more months to integrate but was in the right place right time to get his goal.

onwards and upwards. Credit Maresca for using the squad.

We should be beating teams like Barra easily, but I was very pleased with the effort, professionalism and will to win from those that played. Weve had it far too often in the past when these games had players just meandering around looking totally disinterested.

this bodes well for us under Enzo.

I actually think that in his system Maresca likes his midfielders to be the killers. Jackson is the most natural to break lines and get in behind, but often his decision making and subsequent touches are poor. With players like Nkunku getting the ball to feet and dropping off it allows those attacking midfielders to ger beyond and create overloads in an around the box. Tee system, of course, also relies on the non inverting FB to get beyond int he flanks to create width, overloads and therefore act as the one breaking the lines. Gusto shows promise in doing this, but i am not totally sure of Cucurella's consistency in doing this.

Oh, and not wishing to put a downer on last night, but Veiga to me was pretty awful in all that he did , except one decent pass that started the first goal. And the Chilwell experiment flopped totally as we completely dominated the entire game and yet Chilwell came on and was still able to disappear.  So that non-inverting FB from the left hand side may still need some work.

The important point though, is that Maresca has all of the pieces here to make this work. Yes a more clinical striker would add so much to our game, but, all being fit, there are still two potent front lines there.

You are making this too complicated. You want somebody who will run behind to give balance to the team.

Also how do you pronounce Acheampong?

I had assumed ach-ey-AM-pong, but the announcer called him ASH-um-pong.

A-chame-pong.

Haha thanks, so we were all wrong! (apart from sexyfootball)

The mispronunciation that most gives me the irrits, and it's not Chelsea-based, is Lucas Digne. The last letter is frequently silent in French. Commentators get Lucas right - "Luca" - but it ain't "Deen-yer". It's "Deen". Only ABB on 5 Live gets it right.

Made worse by the fact it can only be down to pure laziness too. As shown by sexyfootball's video above, clubs are making clear efforts to circulate the correct pronunciations of player names and really, anyone working in football media should make a similar effort to familiarise themselves with it.

Sure, your average football fan having a go at an opposition players name off the cuff is fine. But if you are being paid to commentate/provide 'expert' opinion on a club/player, the minimum should be to research that prior to opening your mouth.

Good evening for the squad.

I've criticised the signing of Felix yet he showed some great skill in setting up Nkunku and that free kick.

Mudryk got an assist and put in some decent crosses. Good to see Neto acknowledging the assist.

Nice to see some of the younger chaps get a chance too.

Agreed. Fittingly it's very undignified.

I was actually really impressed with Casadei last night once he settled in the game, his stature gives him a presence on the pitch and with a few more minutes in his legs I think he’ll be a real baller. A great option behind Caiceido & Lavia to offer something different.
