eh eh calm down it’s only Barrow lets see if you feel the same after the Brighton game.

And why not ?

We're only 3 points off 1st and the leaders have just lost their key player for several months ...

We should take the points off Brighton. Did the double over them last season 🙂

I'd love us to win a trophy this year. Ending the Wembley jinx would be great. It's looking promising. Looks to me that the players have a better grasp of how they're being asked to play. Maresca is making a decent start. Brighton will be more of a test, will be interesting to see how we deal with them.

I’m with you. We deserve some optimism now after the last couple of years 🙂

Excellent performance and result.  Dropping part of a Mars bar on my shorts possibly during a goal celebration and just finding the sticky mess is the only thing that went wrong tonight.

Blimey DM. You have had one helluva of a Tuesday night!! Setting fire to your balls and finding a sticky mess in your shorts. Are you sure you have been watching the football?

Everything Carney did from the moment he came on, bar one skied shot, was absolute class. He glides over the pitch and is top quality in all that he did.

The guy, as well as Nkunku has to be a first team regular.

Where's Carney playing in the first team? Instead of Enzo?

Not looking good for Palmer eh ... LOL

Nice problem to have isn't it !

He has to be part of it and getting regular first team minutes. I wouldn't say Enzo is miles ahead of him anyway. Again, like so many of our players, it's down to their fitness.

Agreed. On a serious note, the biggest plus for me tonight was Carney, finally, finally, being given a chance by Maresca to show his class. Yes, it was just Barrow. Yes, he lost his balance at the last moment and skied a good chance at the end. But look how he ran with the ball. Look how he controlled the ball, how he passed the ball. How quick he was. How strong he was. How creative he tries to be. If some people can't see the sheer quality this kid has what are they watching?

Not debating Carneys quality; but can he do that in a slightly deeper lying role and does he have defensive discipline? Am sure others will throw Enzo’s shortcomings at me in response, but it is a big step to play the deeper role.

Personally, I'd play him as a 10. Bar Palmer, I don't care who has to be left out to fit him in.

He can, but I doubt its what Maresca wants. Carney can create space very well, but his range of passing and ball retention is the only thing lacking from him when pitted against Enzo. This #8 role probably does the most running on the pitch so it puts into question Carney's fitness.

Carney is a bit like Musiala for me with the way he moves with the ball. He's someone you get the ball to just outside the box.

Either Carney or KDH is going to be the sacrificial lamb for Paez at the end of the day.

Agree about the passing range. No one in the whole squad comes close to Enzo's range of passing. But don't agree with the ball retention opinion. Given Carney's size and strength, and how good his first touch usually is, if he can stay fit, I really don't feel ball retention would be an issue at all.

I don't either, but I would trust him in a more attacking role to reflect his ability better vs being the #8 in Maresca's football.
