I don't know quite what to make of him, a nice finish for the goal but how sustainable is it to rely on a winger who cannot carry the ball or beat a marker off the dribble?

Garnacho reminds me of a certain type of winger from yesteryear in the Premier League - Freddie Ljungberg, Morten Gamst Pedersen, Stelios Giannokopolous - who were rubbish at dribbling but was great at gliding into positions and running off the shoulder of the last man to stretch play, and chipping in with goals and cutback assists. I don't think we have the style of play to take advantage of this kind of player, but I wonder if his best position is more as a forward.

Theoretically that kind of player, actually used as a forward rather than Maresca's inert winger setup, would dovetail nicely with Pedro as a forward.

The best of a bad bunch ATM on the left side.

That Gittens miss against Spurs has probably put him back weeks confidence wise unfortunately.

I don’t understand why Tyrique George doesn’t get more opportunities on the left rather than Maresca setting him up for failure as a number 9.

Came on, tried a stupid pass with the outside of his foot, got lucky with the clearance and scored a really nice goal.......did nothing after that. This is our best left winger, a single moment player.

Didn't want us to sign him and have seen nothing that changes that opinion.

Odd goal aside, he doesn't look particularly quick, goes down too easily and just looks a bit naff. Gittens looks better until he has one of those games where football seems alien to him (and he's having a few of those games!)

Most of our wingers can't even manage a single moment so I'll take it for now.

Do you not think?

Estevao is quality and will be a great player, but let’s not glaze it that he can’t run into players more than Timo once did.

Estevao has 4 goals in the last 6 games. All the proof you need as to who is currently our best attacker.

I said the last few, not 6. There’s a reason Enzo doesn’t start him for 90 every game, he’s brilliant but still well raw for the prem!

So why hasn't Garnacho matched his numbers ? Not raw enough ?

Think he could have if he was more clinical, definitely had the chances. He's an outlet/threat and if he can get 10/15 goals this season, Im not going to complain as we're in desperate need for other players to get goals.

think the club have been wise with him regarding his minutes given pre season and his late move from united to us and working him up to speed fitness wise and integrating him to the team.

As for how I view him currently, he's the type of player I'd have a punt on with the bookies for the first goal or to score in a game over others in our side currently. Not placed a bet on this team in 12 months but might start with this weekend with him. (brave)

Estevao has been far and away our best winger. Better finisher, more intelligent, good ball control, confuses defenders. Garnacho hasn't even been close to being as good.

I think you are right, but it shouldn't be that surprising.
Estevao's ceiling is much higher, so the only slight surprise is about how quickly he's been able to actually contribute and influence games.

Garnacho is a good player and still very young (should still improve quite a bit). I personally don't expect him to reach WC status, but wouldn't rule it out either--stranger things have happened. 🤞

Agree with all of that but he doesnt play on the left for us... yet... LW - Him and Gittens, RW Neto/ Estavao/ Palmer (Gerorge is the super sub (Kalou type player for us), LW, RW, Striker) Im actually alright with this for now.

Going to put a quid on Garnacho scoring the first/ Anytime next game.

The kids can play but not sure he is ready physically.

Using a forward does not fit the current football meta though. Pretty much everybody run two winger wide, st, two 10.

Estevao is plenty physical. Some fans seem to confuse size and physicality like they are the same thing. You don't need to be built like Adama Traore to be physical enough to play in the Premier League. Gittens is much bigger than Estevao but is much weaker with his aggression, which is why he is struggling so much more than Estevao. From what I have seen of Estevao, he is very aggressive high up the pitch.

Oh - good to see we have an 'innovative' coach and SDs that simply have us copy what others are doing.

What happened to playing your best players in their best positions.
