Maresca is not the only problem and any other manager would have to face the same issues he's got now, so replacing him will not change much.

But it doesn't change the fact that he's probably not good enough for the job. His reaction to the crisis we've been going through since Eberton game is a clear indication that he's not up to the challenge.

No shame in that, most managers out there are not good enough for the Chelsea job.

Conte, yes.

Tuchel as well

It will be a comedy with those two.

Conte will complain about his squad from the get go.

TT will say f kids, I do what I want.

Oh absolutely. Comment was about managers that change shape to fit the squad - and we know both of them did that with us.

With the benefit of hindsight, we should probably have gone for Enrique last summer. His side at PSG is also pretty young, so that hasn't phased him at all.

the silence is deafening from the club, surely that cant be happy with whats gone on since 22nd December, 9 points from 24, from a chance to go top to clinging on in 4th and out of the cup, 10 goals scored in 8 games, 3 in 1 game and 2 in another, and to cap it loaned out 6 players and both strikers injured, if we dont win on Friday we could be down to 6th

Maresca’s tactics have been found out. Until he works out a solution, our form will continue will slide downwards.

The clubs strategy is also flawed, none of it makes sense from a footballing perspective - only a financial one.

With those two it will be a firework on the get go.  Conte will rant in press conference every week if he doesn't get what he want in the market.

As @Bebe1980 said, I need to rephrase what I said about TT 😂😂

We had 10 attackers under TT, TT chose 343. TT does not care about player development or the makeup of the squad. He will play the football that he think the best to win. He binned Lukaku after half a season which was a very bad idea for the club but probably better for the team. If we gave him all this young players, he simply won't play them.

If we go back all the way to Mou, it is hard to think any of our past manager that will suit us. Maybe Lamp.

We need manager who is happy to play young players, not concern too much about tactic and focus more on using his squad.

Good points raised, but don't think any top line managers want a job where promoting youth ( for profits) is the priority. Kids don't win anything, we are half way into the third season of the project and haven't got much to show for, after spending billions.  Yong players are more like icing on the cake in my humble view, if you have a 8-9 core players to rely on, much easier to blend couple of young players in and watch them prosper.

I think it was a great pity we didn't give the academy kids more of a chance under Lamps ... They were never going to win every game but I used to enjoy watching them because of the hunger and desire they showed on the pitch...

I wonder how we'd have fared if we'd stuck with them and added in Palmer, Cucu and Caicedo ...

Agree, I think because we had a new ownership that want to trim the wages very quickly, we let go pretty much everyone and sign kids.

Spot on!

It is really as simple as how you’ve just summed it up.

If we get Lavia back and playing I still think we can keep 4th spot the longer without means we won't be able to control matches as Enzo is a luxury player.

Perhaps they were hoping Maresca could get the best out of Enzo, not sure.

True, Lavia is crucial to making the system work but as we all know his injuries are an issue.

I would have been up for recalling Andrey Santos in January and seeing how that works - could have been what we need to get into the top 4 as we are in a real battle with a few clubs.

ATM It feels like we are just going from game to game hoping our luck turns without actually trying to change anything.

Agree 100%, but until these owners and SDs realise that Enzo Fernandez is not the answer, the likes of Santos have no chance of establishing themselves at CFC.

As it stands they are positioning Fernandez as the poster boy of the club, the "franchise" player, permanent captain elect, with Sanchez, Colwill and Jackson to support him in what constitutes BlueCo's version of a "spine" 🙂

Wishful thinking that Tchouameni being forced to play CB this whole time can influence him wanting to leave.

How does he feel about playing inverted upside down free-roaming RBCM? Jokes aside, I hope so too! :bluescalf:

@theGreenBaronIt is great to hear from you, I remember that tournament well and that it was a privilege to play at Cobham and to have a pint in the Plough pub next door. I am sure you weren't called the Green Baron then ?? 😉

With regards to Maresca, I think that even I could probably win the European Conference League with our Squad. Top 4 would be a decent finish and will probably buy him another season, but I personally would get rid now.  Just gut feeling, 55 years of supporting Chelsea and seeing so many obviously poor managers come and go and my belief that he is a Championship manager at very best, he is not tactically astute and his treatment of some of our fringe players was shocking and has I believe got the players still in the Squad backs up.

Haha, I took a much needed sabbatical from the forum and forgot my password . been 5 years so figured a fresh start (I was not banned in a previous life.)

I tend to agree with you, I had moments of hope in certain games, but now I wonder if that was the players playing against his instructions. League is also pretty dire compared to recent seasons, very little consistency from those around us. And the fringe player comment is spot on, I mentioned elsewhere that I was concerned by his player loyalty, and that might have been the wrong word because of the Sanches scenario. But look at the Veiga situation, it makes no sense, KDB - you brought him here, you surely knew he wasn't good enough.... I guess a better way to put it is I've seen nothing to get excited about in his man management, you aren't going to see videos of players in 10 years time saying they would have run through a brick wall for him

Posted these in the other thread - these are from December or thereabouts:

How Maresca's Principles Are Making Chelsea Dominate - Football Meta
How Maresca 'Actually' Transformed Chelsea
 - Tactical Football Fanatic
Enzo Maresca's NEW Monster Chelsea Tactic | Destroying Defences - RDF Tactics
How Enzo Maresca Fixed BROKEN Chelsea - Premier League (Official)

You watch those videos and with the benefit of hindsight it doesn't really seem that Maresca has changed all that much. except that some players that were in form are not anymore.

I found this article about Leiceister's season. It seems that there were some similar problems - inability to score, can't defend, losing easier games. It really doesn't seem like he has a plan to address it.

I can't even be bothered to say sack him anymore. What's the point? Twat and twatter will just bring in the next hipster manager and we will back here again next season. Those two dickheads need to go first and because we are stuck with these owners, we need to pray they bring in proper directors of football that actually watch football and don't get all of their information from looking at sh*tty data.
