Had sat on the fence on this thread, reading thoughts. Only saw first 25 mins today, then rest on the radio. I’ve seen and heard enough for two main reasons

1) His lack of tactical flexibility or adaptation. It’s the same every week, or dare I say, they actually regress week to week. Far too easy to play against

2) It appears he has lost the dressing room / player confidence. Rarely come back from that

Unsure a new manager changes much other than a bump. The problems run very deep at the club right now.

Maresca is out of his depth. He's one dimensional, and doesn't help himself by not playing to the strengths of the players he has.

To top it all off, he implicitly and explicitly allowed mediocrity to settle in the squad. Implicitly by persisting with the underperforming players week in week out, and explicitly by straight up coming out and saying that finishing top 4 and competing aren't part of his objectives.

As bad as all of this sounds... Who the hell are the muppets who put him in charge going to bring in instead? Most likely another low tier manager no one has ever heard of.

I wouldn't want the club to sign or sack anyone, players or managers, until they decide to change course.

I'm honestly glad we didn't sign a striker, because I know we would have gotten some 19 year old no one had ever heard of. They did just that for midfield, and would have done the same for CB.

Do a 180 on the failed project, or just stick to what you already have. Trying to start again from scratch with an inexperienced manager and a new pack of teenagers is the definition of insanity.

How f**king dumb are the owners to have signed Maresca to a 5-year contract when his only coaching experience prior to joining us was a short failed stint at Parma in 2021 and coaching Leicester in the Championship last season.

I've just about given up on us becoming a top club again as long as these owners remain in place. We're into the third season with them and our transfer strategy is still all over the place and we've had five different coaches (Tuchel, Potter, Lampard, Pochettino and Maresca) since they took over the club.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, we were actually making progress under Poch. We were crying out for some continuity with a young squad and the playing group was starting to gel and improve under him. To have just blatantly ripped all that up for an unknown coach was pure insanity as it's showing now.

Maresca sucked me in briefly in or around November or December, but how much of the good results was down to the foundations laid by Pochettino anyway. We've look progressively worse the longer he's been in the job.

Sorry but his tactics just do not get the best out of the players we have and also the ones we have coming in the future.

It’s a really bad fit, I do not trust him long term to develop these young players nor do I want to sacrifice any more players talented players simply cause he has no idea how to adapt from his rigid system that isn’t even appealing to watch in the first place.

Pulling a rotten apple from a rotten tree isn’t going to do anything.

I get that, but if you look at our team on paper against Bournemouth's for example our team is head and shoulders above it, yet Maresca has us playing like a clueless bunch of idiots and Ireola might be about to get Bournemouth equal on points with us despite being without some of their starters and having the same striker crisis we have.

The board shouldn't get away with some of their decision making, but that shouldn't  gloss over how poorly Maresca is managing our players.

Why pull a rotten apple out of a rotten tree if it’s just going to regrow another rotten apple?

I know it’s not nice eating a rotten and moist Granny Smith but we have to try something different, we can’t keep going like this.

Get rid.

Haha, I took a much needed sabbatical from the forum and forgot my password . been 5 years so figured a fresh start (I was not banned in a previous life.)

I tend to agree with you, I had moments of hope in certain games, but now I wonder if that was the players playing against his instructions. League is also pretty dire compared to recent seasons, very little consistency from those around us. And the fringe player comment is spot on, I mentioned elsewhere that I was concerned by his player loyalty, and that might have been the wrong word because of the Sanches scenario. But look at the Veiga situation, it makes no sense, KDB - you brought him here, you surely knew he wasn't good enough.... I guess a better way to put it is I've seen nothing to get excited about in his man management, you aren't going to see videos of players in 10 years time saying they would have run through a brick wall for him

So glad you weren't banned (never thought you would be) and glad you are back.

After that pathetic defeat on Friday, now twice away to Brighton in seven days, after they had previously been beaten by Everton and shipped SEVEN goals against Forest, I am so sick of the shocking Management of our Club. We are now only going one way, the rest of this Season will be a write off. The Club is a complete shambles from top to bottom and I can neither afford or be arsed to spend the money required to follow this sh*t. No leadership on or off the pitch, the decent players we do have (Palmer, Enzo Caicedo) are becoming dispirited, and on Friday their was evidence of them arguing among themselves, which is NOT a good sign. #MarescaOut, #StewartOut, #WinstanleyOut  Hey-ho just normal times at Chelsea FC 🙄🙄

I am slowly edging to the out button.... don't think I am there yet, but it's close.

His Plan B is Nicolas Jackson returning from injury

I do agree that this should probably be an "everyone out" post. As posted elsewhere on here, we are a shambles of a Club from top to bottom. Sacking Maresca will be of no use, unless Stewart and Winstanley are also gone with him, thus, not available to select the next incoming YES man. I actually believe that Stewart & Winstanley are the REAL problem in the Club. Neither Clearlake or Blueco. have the faintest idea how to run a football club that doesn't have the letters NFL attached. But to be fair they have never professed to know, and therefore, totally rely on the Imposters Stewart & Winstanley. Think of the "process", the shocking signings, the poor sales/loans, the failed coaches and the sleep inducing football......It is all down to these two cretins. 🤬🤬

Funny isn't is the women's team continue their winning streak even with their new manager and challenge on four fronts, do the ownership get the credit for that?

I can't see given the injuries how a system change will improve the men's team as we still have only one defensive midfielder.

Now we don't know what conversations were had earlier in the season between owners and Maresca yet we do know he dropped Enzo junior for Lavia and that was when we had a string of good results climbing up the league, by contrast without Rodri, City were seriously wobbling.

Currently we have out two first choice strikers injured and the other Nkunku may not be that motivated given the recent transfer window.

Lavia probably came back too soon and what about James, he certainly got us a point with his great free-kick yet is he playing now like he is frightened of popping his hamstrings?

  • 1 month later...

He has had more than enough time and things are not improving. I think he has to go as soon as possible, an interim or replacement would be better. The squad although unbalanced could achieve so much more in the hands of an experienced top level manager.

If he needs more time send him to Strasbourg.
