Champions League: Race for top five intensifies as Chelse...

The race for European places feels like the most exciting narrative left in this season's Premier League, with spots up for grabs as far down as 11th.

If we can re-discover our goal scoring then we have a chance. Won't do it if we bump along at a goal a game like we have been recently though ...

The front four need to step up (and probably ignore whatever Maresca is telling them to do)

I went last night and it was interesting watching all of the front four , off camera as well. Neto only has a run in behind, as he just doesn't have enough strength or guile to get past anyone from a standing start. But we don't play that way.

Sancho just has nothing about him. He is a complete enigma, it looks like there might be a player in there but the more i watch him under Maresca the more i think, actually, nah, he's got nothing and is just taking up a space that someone else probably deserves.

Jackson also has nothings really about him, but in fairness, does do the doggies that the others don't, and he will score goals......eventually....surely right?

Palmer, you feel is going to click back in at any moment but with this abysmal tactical allergy to attacking football, nothing can occur because we would rather keep recycling the ball in front of the opposition that show any craft or zeal in getting in behind and attacking them. And that is what fcks me off the most, because as critical as i am here over all four players, with the right manager playing the right system to get the best out of our attack rather than sterilising it and i think all four could be really good contributors to the team. This gash style of play is so frustrating to watch.

Nicely summed up and exactly how it came across on TV. Our wide men really are the pits. If only we had PROPER wingers.

And a PROPER striker for the wingers to aim for.

I feel like we are going to need Forest to get dragged into it. Newcastle look good, especially with Isak being in such good form. City are a bit like us, but have the easiest run in. Villa are charging.

Our remaining games are too difficult to do it all by ourselves, we are going to need slip ups.

Forest losing 2 - 0 at the minute, both of their strikers are injured so I’ll be shocked if they manage to score 3 touch wood.

It just makes tomorrow even more important for us. We have to win.

8 points and no Champions League.

Yeah I can see that happening.

Despite the win vs Spurs, I wasn’t convinced that the performance was actually that good. It was better…but this was a very poor Spurs team.

We’ll find out tomorrow whether this team and manager have it in them to go on a run and win some big matches.

Unfortunately I don’t think they do

The quality of 75% of the teams in the league is much higher than it was 10 years ago. There are quite a few teams around us who will have similar doubts about their clubs.

I think we might just nick into the top 5. The first third of the season was decent, the second third shambolic, the final third has started decently but I get the feeling it’s going to come down to a winner takes all against Forest on the final day.

Look at the fixtures, an our forward line failing to score in 6 of the last 7 league games.

Top 5? No chance, Newcastle and Villa are flying, they will soon both be above us.

Villa do have some tricky fixtures including FA cup semi final and also PSG so I think they will drop points.

I agree about Newcastle though. That cup win has probably given them the momentum they need.

The thing that is frustrating is fans is that we’re clearly so close to securing CL football, it’s SO do-able. Yet we seem to be throwing it all away with tepid performances.

Our 4 league games, I can’t see us winning of them. United, for all of poor performances are decent against the bigger teams. There’s no way we lose them last 4 games and still secure CL football. We don’t have that much of a cushion. We’re going to need to beat one or two of them - and I don’t see that happening.

We’d have to largely rely on Forrest and Newcastle slipping up.

Yep. As sh*t as City look, I can't see us finishing ahead of them, their fixtures are too kind. Newcastle and Villa are flying right now, so unless something changes quickly, I don't see how we stop them going ahead of us. I fully expect Newcastle to be level with us by the end of the night.

Past 7 seasons, there’s only been one occasion where we finished Top 4 comfortably. 21/22.
