Never seen it Boyne, how disturbing? Would I be scared? I get scared easily...

Hi Gem, it is described as a horror film but there is no blood or gore in it like some horror films. It is a bit like some Stephen King books in that it leaves a lot to your imagination.

Not sure how much you know about the film but it revolves around a Christian policeman who visits a Scottish Island to look for a missing girl. He clashes with a community led by the local Laird played by Christopher Lee and which practises pagan rituals. The crops failed on the Island the previous year and without trying to spoil the ending for you, the film's conclusion is about how the community takes action to ensure that this year's crops don't fail. Disturbing in the sense that you'd think that what happens isn't practised nowadays but would have happened in ancient cultures in parts of the Middle-East.

Hope that helps. If someone can think of a better description of the ending please post. Thanks.

There was a remake of the film in 2006 which starred Nicholas Cage and was set in one of the Southern States of the USA. Have never seen the remake but read poor reviews of it.

Gem!  It is the most terrifying film I have ever seen!  I would take the Exorcist x 10 before I would watch the Wicker Man again!  It is utterly plausible.

Moi, agree that what happened in the Wicker Man is totally plausible. Strangely, I've never been terrified by it - although the ending is disturbing - which is unusual as I can't watch many horror films. I have read lots of horror books by Stephen King, James Herbert and Shaun Hutson and with a few exceptions haven't been terrified by them. I think I must be warped.

A bit off subject but I've never been too impressed by most of the film and TV adaptations of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The films which were made in the thirties and where Boris Karloff plays the monster are good but I don't think they are good adaptations of the book. A personal view. Frankenstein is a brilliant book but I think that her book The Last Man is even better. Worth reading.

The Wedding Ringer, can't believe the bad reviews it got I laughed my arse off

Yeah, watched The Wedding Ringer over the weekend - loose end what with no Chelsea and the grotty weather (and a refusal to do any of the DIY jobs the Mrs has listed).

Typical movie of that type. Easy viewing, very funny in parts and I thought Kevin Hart was very good but it won't be a movie I remember in a few months time.

I watched Primer last night on Netflix. It seemed like it would be right up my street but I couldn't get into it and had no idea what was going on. It didn't help that I could hardly make out what anybody was saying due to the low budget sound and the tendency for the actors to speak their lines really quickly and often all at the same time. Thankfully it was only about 80 minutes long.

Just saw the news about the Tomb Raider movie franchise getting a reboot and all I could think was: "really?"

Damn you. Maksimov!!  When I saw you had posted in here, I came in, excitedly expecting a good recommendation!  What's the point of having a guru like you, if he doesn't come up with the pointers I need?  :happy001:

I was given Child44 for my birthday yesterday so I shall be watching that tonight.

Ok... I'll make up for it with a recommendation. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it here on this thread, but this movie was pretty interesting:

I saw it earlier this year and it was on Finnish telly just a while ago. If you can find it, it's well worth watching. Especially if you're interested in music and history.

Pan - Decent watch but doesn't come close to Hook which is still the benchmark for all related Peter Pan movie adaptions.

Crimson Peak - Actually really enjoyed this one. It has a touch of Pans Labyrinth about it but not surprising as it's a Del Toro film.

Just checked IMDB, last major film was The Good Shepherd in 2006. He's 72 now, so probably taking it easy.

Fantastic in Goodfellas, Casino and Home Alone 1&2.

As Leo Getz too, in Lethal Weapon, with the best catchphrase of all time, ‘okay’.
