this is like a repeat post every 3 months. youre acting like people who dont believe in torres are some kind of igorant and unreasomable idiots. lets see

- first 6 months, cant expect anything from him

- drogba is causing problems, not lettinghim perform

- every other player on the team is to blame

- new season, lets start fresh, he'll hit the ground running

- sh*t, its christmas and nothign has changed. nevermind, drogba the nusiance is off the africa for a month, he'll shine now

- 10 games undisputed striker on the trot, sh*t, err.. its still the players around him who are at fault

what others am i missing ?

I don't think it's unreasonable for you to feel that he's not going to produce this season, I just think that you and some of the others are way too harsh on him sometimes, for example I think it was you who said that Torres was absolutely awful against Wolves even though he scored 1 and set up 1. The problem is that you have already made your mind up that he isn't going to be good this season and no matter what he does you will point out the negatives. Everybody knows this is Torres' last chance to produce and if he doesn't I can say that I supported a Chelsea player through everything, it just didn't work out and this is the attitude that all fans should have in my opinion, not finding any excuse to berate him.

The point being made you plank, is that you support your player!!

Torres has scored a goal every other game (pretty much) this season, yet people are on his case for a bad performance against QPR and an average performance against Juve!

Get real most fans would love a player that has that scoring record in a season!

Timetowaste, is judging Torres on this season, not last or the one before, and if you hadn't just pitched up here and started spouting sh*t, you would know that Timetowaste has been critical of Torres in the past, but is giving him a fresh slate for this season!

i dont care what he said, im replying to your post and ive heard these same excuses time and time again. "just give him a chance" "things are different"

i did say that and stand by it. i dont gloss over performances because of singluar incidents, i take everything into account. really gets on my nerves when people do this especially because (and ive said this before) they are probably the exact same people last season saying not to judge torres just because hes NOT scoring and to look at his contribution as a whole, because things like goals and assists are just singluar numbers without context. if torres had 13 touches of the ball, scored a hattrick, but missed 10 open nets... would you class that as a good performances? obviously not, because the numbers are now in some sort of context. its quite obvious really

maybe, maybe not. personally id rather highlight the faults of the team because thats the only way to get better, specifically when im on a forum disucssing matters. i dont think glossing over 'just support him ffs" is good enough. why rest on what we have? if thje board did that we'd be stuck with kalou and boswinga this season, but instead they made the decision that bettered the team

If any player scores a hatrick, no matter how many chances they missed, it would be deemed a good performance!

If you want to highlight the faults of the team, how comes you are only picking on 1 player? How abouts Cechs kicking or Lampard & Malouda not turning the ball over quickly enough?

Or would it be that you are picking on the easy target? How many times have you seen Torres play live? Have you seen the runs he makes off the ball, have you seen him pulling defenders out of position? Or do you just judge his performance on what you read in the Sun on a monday morning?

Torres does get support. If you compare the amount of support he gets from the crowd compared to his actual contribution to the team, he probably gets more than any other player we've had in recent memory. Because we obviously have to support him during games and when faced with opposition fans, but when in private (-ish) discussing the club/team amongst ourselves, what is wrong with being critical and showing disappointment? Surely no-one can actually be happy with what he has contributed over the space of nearly 2 years. The goal against Barcelona is about the only noteworthy thing he's done in almost 24 months. And when he throws his toys out of the pram complaining straight after the greatest night in our history, and storming off down tunnels when he's been subbed off after yet another poor performance, why the f**k should he continue to receive unwavering support from the crowd anyway?

Totally agree, storming down the tunnel was a joke tbh I still don't get why he did it, if he'd been playing well fair enough but he wasn't.

Can we just get this straight, no-ones saying that Torres goal contribution over the last 2 seasons has been acceptable.

What some are saying is, lets give the player a clean slate for this season and see how it goes, if by January his goal tally is not where it should be, lets look at the options. I would also add that if his goal tally is ok, not brilliant, but ok, and he is contributing to the team through assists and good play, and we are still near the top of the league, then he will be having a good season and we should back him further!

Overall his performance was decent, not great but not bad. Don't get me wrong I understand what you're saying but I don't think anybody would say that Torres was awful in that game other than you or the others that are desperate for Torres to do badly. We're resting with what we have because it's the end of September and like it or not he's our main man until at least January, if he has a bad few months then I honestly don't blame us for looking at another striker, but until then I'm hoping for more goals, assists and overall good play from Torres and I will fully get behind him, not having wet dreams over Falcao and praying for Torres to play sh*t. He's got 4 goals in 9 games so far which is a big improvement on his past goalscoring record for us and if he's improving there's hope that he can be the striker we want him to be.

fair enough

just 2 more points - if you didnt think he was awful against wolves, at least you mustve thought he was our worst player?

and im not dreaming of falcao, what irks me is we have someone NOW! sturridge! who isnt getting a game no matter how he plays

Sturridge is injured. But don't let a little fact lke that get in your way.

I cannot think of a player in our history who Chelsea fans have supported and wanted to succeed more than Fernando Torres.

This season the manager has backed him to such an extent he has bought players to suit his game and discarded the 4-3-3

that was made for the finest striker in our history Didier Drogba.

I think when players rely on a 'burst of speed' to find the space they need, when they lose it they have to adapt.

This is the stage we are at with Fernando. We have not seen the type of goal he scored against us, the direct run from an

angle, the instant acceleration and expert finish. Neither has this been seen on the International stage.

I hope I am wrong but I am seeing comparisons with Kerry Dixon here. When Kerry lost that half a yard his workrate

increased more than it did when Speedo was doing all his work in his prime. He drifted out wide to get involved and his

goals dried up in his later years as a pro, even to the stage when he was not considered for the Chelsea Veterans !

Fernando has players around him who will create chances, Mata, Oscar, Hazard - what he needs to do is stay central and

make runs, the same runs he made when he first joined us and he was never delivered the killer ball.

He is a goalscorer, make no mistake, but he has lost half a yard and Liverpool knew that when we signed him.

The problem for Robbie and Roman is whether the 'Torres Euphoria' every time he plays is good for the team or our

quest to win title's.

There cannot be any excuses anymore, Lukaku has come off the bench twice and had one full start, 3 goals for

West Brom. Sturridge as a centre forward scored plenty for Bolton.

Bolton and West Brom are not Chelsea.

Very interesting post Star. The point about pace is key IMO. Players who rely on pace, for whom pace is their major asset, (Henry, Owen, Shevchenko etc), when that speed and acceleration goes they rarely, if ever, hit the same peaks of performance again. They become a shadow of what they were.

Physical size, strength and power is the main asset of other players, (Drogba, Carroll, Shearer etc), and generally that strength and power, unlike speed and acceleration, stays with a player for the duration of their footballing career. I think these types of player generally have a greater longevity in terms of their effectiveness.

King Kerry was actually a mix of both. He had a wonderful physical presence but was also blessed with great speed for a big lad. He could be a battering ram when needed, but also had the speed to race onto long balls hit behind defenders. When he had his torn stomach muscles that was serious injury and his blistering burst of acceleration was gone never to return. However, the physical strength remained and he was able to tailor his game to become more of a provider than a finisher. He improved as an all-round player IMO.

youre a pedantic one arent you

So it's pedantic to pull you up on your assertion that "we have someone NOW! sturridge! who isnt getting a game no matter how he plays" .... when he's been out injured for several weeks. I'd say it's more a case of you needing to check your facts.

By the way, I hear that Sturridge is scheduled to return on October 7th but whether he'll be available to play or whether that's when he's set to return to training I couldn't say.

maybe you actually didnt understand what i was saying

i meant we have someone in the squad, ready to play as a striker, but torres is still getting constant game time no matter what. not literally sturridge can play this second, i know he is injured.

Oh I see. So now it's my fault for not knowing what you say you actually meant to write but going on what you did write.

Simple facts. Sturridge has a hamstring injury. He's been unavailable for the last few games as a result of this injury. And yet you say that Sturridge "isnt getting a game no matter how he plays"

Pull the other one son.

im not basing this on the the last 2 games ffs. my god you are dense

Won a lot of headers, worked tirelessly and took the goal well, couple of bad touches but Arsenal worried about him today, one of his best games in a Blue shirt.

Great game by Nando today. I really hope he keeps that motivation going. A dangerous Nando is obviously very good for us.

Great game by Nando, that goal was pure instinct.

Ran his ass off, some great touches, winning balls in the air and creating space, think thats his 7th of the season so far so a good start, sometimes he trips over the ball but overall i think hes been very good for us.

Played well today, took his goal really well and was unlucky with his air shot/penalty, even though he should really have taken it earlier he still did well to get a chance. I wonder if we will see those who feel the need to immediately slag him the minute he has a bad game give him the credit he is due after today.
