Some of these muppets are off their head. There wasn't a touch? Watch a f**king TV. Blatant contact. He still should bury the chance regardless but all you idiots saying their is no touch get a life or go to f**king specsavers. Mugs

Absolutley....

there was contact, however minimal....even the pundits on Abu Dhabi TV (Andy townsend who usually gives us no credit!) thought that it should be a pen.

However.... I do think that he should have taken the oppetunity prior to the contact.

I've always defended him, but I thought it was a hit-and-miss performance. Did the important thing which was put the ball in the net, and caused their CBs trouble, doing especially well when we kept hoofing it (WHY ARE WE STILL HOOFING THE BALL FORWARD?!), but was frustrating at other points and fell over too often. Overall, the did the important thing and you can't ask for much more.

One of his better games in a blue shirt. Scored an important goal and put himself about. Hopefully it'll have a positive effect on his confidence and we'll see more of that Torres and not the version I've described in the thread starter.

Great win yesterday always nice beat those mugs especially in their souless bowl.

Thought we played well overall but i did find us frusating at times, couple of times i was urging Mata to take the ball towards the byline but he went inside instead & lost the ball, also how can we put ourselves under so much pressure from our throw in, a couple of times Ivan & Luiz could have cost us a goal.

I thought Torres played well but again why does he keep going out wide?

Look at our 2nd goal yesterday just as the ball is floating towards goal, try & watch it from behind the goal, Torres runs away to the right & goes out of camera shot ffs, whys he heading out there, surely any rebound ect he could get on the end of instead he goes away from goal, weird.

He followed the ball when he scored, our 2nd he runs away

from where the ball was heading rather than attacking the ball/putting their keeper under pressure.

Problem is he's out wide during normal play means we have nothing up front in the middle waiting to pounce on any crosses.

Good centre forwards goal yesterday, just the sort of goal any top striker would be proud of!

Definately a touch when he was through on goal, however would have been a harsh penalty!

To be honest I didn't see anything different from Torres yesterday. Great finish for the goal, and there was some good work off the ball. However, he lost the ball a lot and he should have buried that 1 on 1. I thought it was a typically inconsistent Torres performance.

Interesting article on Torres workrate by Robbie Savage http://www.bbc.co.uk...otball/19770499

One of the biggest pricks to ever enter the Premier League has something (very) smart to say. Wouldn't have thought that five years ago.

Even Phil Thompson (the man who had his nose replaced by his cock, and his brain replaced by his ass) was full of praise for Torres, and I find it difficult that the anti-Chelsea pundits salutes our striker, whilst our fans thinks his performance was very inconsistent and not enough.

I like Robbie Savage the guys funny, hes such a character. Yeah he takes s**t at times but he makes me laugh.

Torres played very well, not many people have said anything about his workrate he gave a good performance against Arsenal but was still quite wasteful when he had the ball upfront. I think people have a right to be worried about him been wasteful.

Firstly, my hate towards Savage is mostly based on his appearances on the pitch. Where he was a c**t. A proper one as well.

Secondly, how do you define wasteful? He was "only" dispossessed three times playing in a difficult role (lone man up top). Mata was dispossessed 6 times, Oscar 5 times and Ramires 4 times, all in much more critical areas on the pitch. Yes, he probably should have scored that 1 vs 1, but no strikers scores on every opportunity. He also got hindered quite strongly just before his shot (I thought it was a penalty, but we won, so yey). I saw Aguero miss two 100% chances against Fulham, and Van Rapist didn't exactly do well in front of goal against Spuds. I've also seen our very own Drogba miss tons of chances 1 on 1 against the keeper.

I also feel that Torres' goal doesn't get nearly enough credit (except from "just", of all people :)). It was pure football magic. The amount of skill, strength and balance that was required was immense. But you know, it's easier to remember the misses than the goals, huh.

Spot on. I think RVP actually misses a lot of chances, yes he scores a lot but compared to the amount of chances he gets not that much. We seem to score with very few attempts, especially Torres, he very rarely gets more than a few decent chances a game.

To ozz, what I meant by wasteful was on the counter attack several times he played the wrong pass or held on to it for too long on what could have been vital opportunities to score especially as Giroud missed that sitter at the end that could have made it 2-2. I'm not saying he didn't put in a good performance but he was wasteful at times and that could have been costly.

Also forgot to add I was one of the ones who praised the goal had Drogba scored that goal for us the media n everyone would have been gushing except for looking at the Arsenal defensive mistake so much. It was power and precision by Nando.

To be fair, so were Hazard, Mata, Ramires, Ivan, Ashley, Mikel - at numerous points they all played wrong passes at wrong times resulting in a move breaking down or loss of possession....it is part of being a footballer, nobody is going to get it right all of the time....and that is before we get started on Luiz and his hopeful punts up field whcih resulted in a loss of possession almost every time!

Torres was no more wasteful than others, and far less wasteful than most. But then, the perception that he was/is wasteful is just in keeping with the general theme on here, i.e that every little thing he does, be it good or bad (depending on what camp any particular poster is from) is then magnified 100 times and given added importance to add weight to whatever argument is being made.

I never said others weren't wasteful and I even said he gave a good performance. One of his best in a Chelsea shirt but this is a Torres thread and I was just pointing out the fact he was quite wasteful after he scored not taking anything away from his performance at all.

The man played an important part in the first, won the freekick that Luiz converted and generally chased, harried and put himself about well. His overall contribtuion last night was good, however as a few have mentioned in the match thread, he doesnt look convincing when he has a chance and should have scored.

A slight critisicm/request is that i would like to see Nando involved more around the box more. I mentioned it last night, but have a look at our third goal. Our three players in central attacking positions in the box were Mata, Lamps and Ivan (our RB!) - call me old fashioned, but these are the situations where i would like to see our number 9 in the box waiting to pounce.

thoughts?

If I was Roberto di Matteo, this is what I would do.

After tomorrow's relaxation and training session, I would walk over to Fernando Torres. I would whisper discreetly in his right ear, "Nando, I need to see you in my office."

When he arrives he will see a box of DVDs prominently displayed on my desk. "Gaffer, what is this?" he would ask. "Nando, sit down. These are for you. Let me tell you a story."

About five years ago, there was another 28 year old striker struggling at Chelsea.

Frequently he would trip over his own feet, dive for undeserved penalties to cover his embarassment, and blaze over the bar or hit the woodwork from 12 yards. The media, the pundits and even our own fans told all and sundry he was a donkey, a waste of time, money and space. Over time, albeit begrudgingly, they began to notice that he often worked hard and was quite good at creating space and chances for his teammates. Still, by seasons' end, despite some improved displays his price tag and mediocre goal return were hanging a millstone round his neck. The next season came around and he found himself competing for a place with an even bigger name striker. He wanted out of Chelsea, but he was told by the manager to persevere.

The season began. Our striker resumed his team ethic, working hard for the team and creating space and opportunities for his teammates, but this time he added something else to his locker; goals. It was as if they appeared out of nowhere. All those shots from 12 yards went hit the roof of the net, instead of the crossbar. Those seemingly impossible tricks to get out of blind alleys turned into productive, mazy dribbles. His confidence skyrocketed. He began to attack the ball more and with each attack his confidence grew even more. It was an unstoppable cycle that would eventually propel him to the list of Chelsea's all time greats."

"The only thing that changed was his attitude, Fernando. I want you to watch these DVDs. I want you to study every movement, every touch, every mistake and every goal. I want you to see how he changed from donkey to diamond."

When he went home that night, he took out his copy of 50 Shades of Andy Gray and put in my DVDs. He went on to become Chelsea's greatest ever striker. ***

I saw a lot of potential for Torres to actually grow in to Didier's boots. Torres and his fans need to realise he is not the same type of striker as he was at age 24. No striker is. The difference between the greats and the has beens is that the greats reinvent themselves according to their changing physical nature. Torres is stronger and fitter than he has ever been in his career. He may not have the same lightning pace, but he is still far from slow. He's also alike Drogba in that he is very much a big game player, and he's developing an understanding with Mata that is not unlike the one that saw Lampard get the best out of Drogba.

If he continues to evolve with this more physical, aggressive game, we may well have a proper Drogba replacement on our hands, but he needs to carry that aggression into goalscoring instinct. I admire how much work he does for the team these days, but we need him to be more like his former teammate Didier Drogba, and less like his former team mate Dirk Kuyt.

I think that people seem to forget about Torres back at Liverpool is that I recall him being quite wasteful at times there, but his movement and his footballing brain got him so many chances that he got a whole bunch of goals eventually, granted he doesn't look as sharp in front of goal at the moment than he did back then but I think he'll be fine, 5 in 11 so far is a step in the right direction.

Last nights performance showed how much he has grown as a team player, in the set up for 2 and winning the free kick for Luiz's stunner. He has looked great in the past couple of games, just needs that bit of sharpness in front of goal back.

Along with Mata he was our best player last night.

He made the first goal, won the FK for the second and worked like a trojan all night long.

With one striker up top you need work rate and endevour...Torres has been superb in that respect in our last few games.

Well done Nando.
