How many goals did other Chelsea players get BECAUSE of Torres? I don't expect anyone to agree with me, and that's fine, but come on with the counting already. How many times was Torres not the finisher, but the main reason we finish? How about the Champions League final last year? We don't have one corner the entire game, until he comes on and gets us one that leads to the Drogba goal.

Torres's goals this season:

Yellow = Goals impacting the result.

Green = High Quality Opposition.

He has scored 8 EPL goals this season, only 2 coming against teams in the top half.

He has made 13 appearances off the bench this season for Chelsea, not scoring one goal.

Of his 23 goals for Chelsea this season, only 7 have altered the result.

Of his 23 goals this season, only 9 have come since Christmas (Ba signing probably also impacted this).

Of the 23 goals, only 5 have come against teams to be considered (by me) as high quality opposition.

He has appeared in 30 games we have either lost or drawn this season, only scoring in two of these games. One being the Community Shield, the other being a EL loss to Rubin where we progressed anyway.

I'll let people make their own interpretations of these facts, and obviously goals alone don't take into account his contribution to the match as a whole.

I'm just bored and felt like doing something.

So are you saying Torres is the reason we won the CL? Well why did he win the corner in the first place? RDM brought him on. So the man who deserves credit is our former manager. While the team was celebrating Torres then went and had a bitch fit with the spanish press.

"A top personality becomes a super player. A soft, fragile personality can be smashed. This is my weakness, I believe. I need top players." You know who said that? Our current manager.

The Europa league has really clouded how well he has actually done in terms of goalscoring.

Went 6 months in the league without scoring.

Still doesn't score vital goals as often as your main striker should and still very rarely scores against top teams, as Jonty has proven.

He will still be here next season, the club wouldn't make him posterboy for the new kits if he wasn't.

The only positive at the moment is that if anyone can make him remotely resemble a decent striker, it's José.

That is my point! Di Matteo brought him on, he got us a corner, Drogba scored it, they are all heroes in my eyes. Do I think Torres is the reason we won the CL? I don't think any player as a single unit is the reason! The whole team is the reason, as I said, including the three I just mentioned. But this is all pointless, I hope he leaves just so all the moaning would stop.

I do love him as a player cos when he's on his game he's unbeatable but we don't see enough of that, and i just can't see Jose making him his number 1 striker. I really can't.

What game is this? Call of Duty? Because it's not football as far as I've been able to tell over the last 2 and a half years.

He's shown fleeting glimpses of the player he was (the goals against Newcastle, Aston Villa and Benfica to name but a few) and it's moments like that, and the player he once was, that make me feel sad at his decline. The Torres of Liverpool would have got us the league and CL double cos we have far better players than Liverpool did.

I have to say if Jose is able to regain Torres' form we can talk about a little miracle. It is a confidence thing with Torres so Jose has a shot but we know how dark it has been with Nando.

Jose said he doesn't know most of the players personally so he'll start there. After that he'll decide who he wants to stay and who to leave...

Never expected him to come out and say anything else, behind the scenes might be different. Jose won't come out and say he has to go because that will become an headline, and saying that will reduce whatever little value is still attached to Torres. I am almost certain he will be gone by the end of the window either via a loan, P/Ex or sold. No way will Jose gamble on a guy who hasn't fired under 4 managers.

If he openly admitted we were trying to shift Torres it would weaken our negotiating position in any potential deal, and anything which might prevent Torres leaving can only be a bad thing. In this one move José has shown more media savvy and self-awareness than Benitez during the entirety of his interim period.

i dont think its just that

i think its more of a message to the players, that no one is written off and no one is safe. the players will have a chance to prove themselves and those who already did, will have to do it again

He's obviously seen the most of fernando's worst but now he's manager here why not give him a fair crack of the whip! Still mind we need Cavani

There are no signs Torres' physique has detoriated. He runs fast and is sharp. He just can't find the net even from clear cut chances. If he'd bury most of the chances he had in the league he'd be on 30 goals after the past season. Which would be acceptable.

He also made a lot of bad runs and was not able to anticipate what our midfielders were going to do next. He is more traditional in terms of style.

I honestly think Jose can help him in areas but can't regain the old form.

People say he scored 20 odd goals this season, hardly a flop. Well we played around 70 games this season and he played most of them. so 20 goals isnt that great actually.

8 in 36 league appearances. 1 in every 4.5 matches

The thing with Torres is that people either have him as a massive flop or somebody who's done well because he scored 23 goals this season. He's not been a complete flop this season but he should have done better. I wouldn't mind keeping him this season and seeing if Jose can do anything with him, but if he was to leave it wouldn't be the worst decision we've made.

I'd love to know how many minutes he played and how many shots he took. On target, off target and blocked.

According to the chelsea website Torres played 64 times of which 13 were as a substitute, he scored 23 goals, which on the face of it is not to bad.

I think he gets some unfair criticism, but ultimately he has not been a success for us, and it would be better for both the club and player if he were to move on.
