What do you consider as your lowest point as a Chelsea fan?

Featured Replies

Sorry to be a damp squb!

Just thinking, alot of young Chelsea fans have perhaps been lucky enough to have not really witnessed a real Chelsea low.

So what match/period or time etc do you consider to be the toughest time that you have been through supporting Chelsea?

I know alot of older supporters always comment when people moan about 1 bad recent performace, quicky reminding people we don't know how lucky we are!

I am interested to hear what you think...

I was born in 89 so I guess I got pretty lucky never having to go through the pain of relegation. One of my most painful memories would definitely have to be the 98-99 premier league season, Just a fresh eyed 9 year old and had my heart set on us becoming league champions before all those stupid draws at the end of the season.

Besides that could do a roll out of any number of CL campaigns over the last decade as im sure will be mentioned multiple times through the course of this thread. That Monaco semi still haunts me...

Allowing away fans into that part of the shed

Matt Hardings passing....

The 60s 70s and 80s being just vague memories

.

Hurry up you scientific fellows...When you invent a contraption that can go back in time, i wanna piece of it..

I wouldn't say low as I have 95% of the time had faith in Chelsea but when Carlo Ancelotti was sacked, I was fuming at how the club was being run. We were a laughing stock.

Every defeat since 1964; especially 66-67 FA cup final defeat to... sorry I can't bring myself to type that word

Loss of Matt Harding

Building of that f**king hotel

I've been going over to Chelsea since the mid 80's when my dad used to take me into the shed, so in terms of success on the pitch it's not been too bad. Pretty crap in the early days but I was so excited to be there and never expected more so it was well bareable.

Low points then- the ties in the calling cup final. The team didn't turn up, the fans didn't turn up, a sh*t day all round that made me write a piece on what it means to be a Chelsea fan (never got round to finishing it).

West ham at home, probably about 2003, the day it really hit home that our fan base had gone seriously sh*t.

Science lessons at school. I was from Younger in Essex, and was the only Chelsea fan around (there was one a couple of years older), every week we used to line up outside the science labs and the football chants would start, very week it ended with west ham tottingham and Liverpool fans ganging up on me, often ended in fisti-cuffs!

In no particular order:

FA Cup final defeat to United in 1994.

Moscow 2008.

Departure of Jose Mourinho from the club 2007.

That is spooky !!

Exactly my lows too.

It's weird, but i don't look back at all the drubbings in the 70's & 80's as low moments, probably down to expectations not being the same then?

I never thought that 94' cup final could be beaten (in terms of being so depressed after a football match), but the sight of JT on the floor at Moscow was hard to take (more for him that me).

I wasn't around in the 70's and didn't start following Chelsea till the early 90's so didn't experiance the lows of the era leading up to the 90's but this was my first proper season of following Chelsea attending games etc and I remember the excitement of the FA Cup run (something that sadly I don't feel to the same level anymore) and remember beating Luton in the semi which took us to the final against United in fairy tale style. We had beaten them home & away that season in the league (If I remember correctly? Gavin Peacock scoring in both games?) and there was a real sense that this was 'our time'. I remember FA Cup final day that year more than any other and the excitement as a kid that I felt. Unfortunately we all know how it ended and I was crushed to say the least. At the time a final at Wembley was a 'once in a lifetime' sort of match for us so comparing it to any loss we would experiance now (other than Moscow) is just not the same due to the success we are used to.

I too was born in 89 so I guess my misery is quite similar to yours! I remember being so depressed when Scolari took over and I was proved right at how bad it was going to work out with him... That was a real low but I guess I take for granted the fact that we got dissapointed about not winning the title!

I also recall the Monaco fiasco (God knows what the tinkerman was thinking) being a particular low moment. We could have easily won the CL that season!

My lowest point has to be the 94 cup final. I was only 5 but I remember very well watching it with my older brother (who is an arsenal fan) laughing at me and I was just crying :-(

Lowest points as a Chelsea fan, hmmm...

Losing to the y*ds at Wembley in 1967

West Ham taking the Shed regularly in the early 70's

Getting knocked out of the FA Cup by Orient and losing the League Cup Final within a week in 1972

Dave Sexton selling Peter Osgood and Alan Hudson

Getting relegated after losing at WHL in 1975. I know we had two more games to play, but we drew both of them at SB.

Getting relegated in 1979, especially as we deserved it - we were sh*te

Narrowly escaping relegation to the old Division Three in 1983 - again, we were sh*te

Getting relegated from Division One yet again in 1988

Losing to the Mancs in the FA Cup Final in 1994, thanks to David Elleray

Needless to say, the deaths of Matthew Harding, Peter Osgood, Ian Hutchinson, Peter Houseman, Keith Weller, Petar Borota, David Rocastle and Ian Porterfield - apologies if I've omitted anyone.

Things have been pretty good/f*ckin' great since then! There were also a wealth of good times within the years I've mentioned above, far outweighing the bad times.

I can remember being devastated when we got relegated in '75. Inconsolable, worse than if a close family member had died. I just didn't see it coming. Then the next 8 years or so were really no better, couldn't buy any players due to our immense debt, and the youngsters we had weren't good enough. The classic Catch 22. I couldn't believe at the time, let alone now that one Clive Walker goal against Grimsby stopped us going down into the third! With our finances at the time that could well have been the end of Chelsea as we had known it. It was tough, that's all I have to say about that.

In defense of the younger crowd, times have changed, and so have expectations. You just can't compare Chelsea in '83 to Chelsea in 2012, it's impossible. I remember being very pleased with our 6th place in '85, (Chelsea are back, Chelsea are back!), but now it's considered a failure. For the first 27 years of my Chelsea life we had won the '70 FA Cup, the '71 ECWC, and that was pretty much it! Now we're expecting something like that every year!!

So more recently, Moscow and The Ovrebo Barca game have to get honorable mentions.

As two others have posted above, I too was born in 1989 and in my lifetime the club has only gone in an upward direction. Nevertheless, there have been some relatively bad moments:

1. Moscow: I felt appalling for about a week and excommunicated myself from everyone I knew for that period of time.

2. Mourinho's sacking: This happened on my 18th birthday (September 20th 2007). Suffice to say that that was undoubtedly the worst I'd ever felt on any birthday.

3. Monaco '04: The away leg, what a farce that was. I knew we'd blown it then in a year where we really should have won the Champions League.

4. January-March 2012: The darkest depth of AVB's reign. It was during this time that I started to become disillusioned with what has happening at the club; it was clear to me that many of the players simply didn't care any more.

I've omitted the Ovrebo game from the list simply because I was out of the country and unable to watch the game, nor the highlights, for days. If I'd watched it it would be on the list at no.4.

Being that I am only 18,

1. Moscow 08. Remember it like it was yesterday still, was in floods of tears all night and then for the whole of the next day, didn't even go into school as my class was predominately United fans (no surprise as I live in South East London). Although the scars have been healed thanks to the Drogs winning penalty!

2. Barca 09. Nothing else springs to mind apart from being furious rather than upset as it was blatently obvious that we'd be cheated out the game because UEFA did not want an all English final. Once again, that's healed a little bit due to the fact we beat them to win the CL last season.

3. Losing to Arsenal every season up until Bridge's goal at Highbury. Whenever we played Arsenal, I could never sit in and watch the match or go to a game because I was so nervous and sick of losing to them and getting upset whenever we did. Until that night at Highbury.

1994 cup final for me...that was old chelsea, thought it was our one and only chance to win something in my life-time, saw the team outplay utd and somehow end up 4-0 losers...first major final of my chelsea life and I didn't really speak for a few days afterwards...john spencer's tears at the final whistle summed it up for me

94 FA Cup final, the scabbiest 4-0 win you'll ever see. Lots of Champions League related ones, Monaco, Moscow, Ovrebo and Liverpool. 5-1 loss to Spurs in the Carling Cup semi and the 2-1 loss to Graham Poll at WHL. The game against Arsenal when we lost 3-2 after being 2-0 up. Those embarrassing UEFA Cup exits against Swiss and Norwegian minnows. But hey ho, the bad times make the good feel even better.

Losing the Champions League final in Moscow, that hurt and carried on hurting until we won it last season.

The game against Barcelona was hard to take but that was more anger then anything else.

Seeing Mourinho leave us was also hard to take.

Very lucky that I only got into football in 1996 when I was 9 so I've pretty much only seen Chelsea on the incline.

Lowest was probably in Moscow but I also totally fell out of love with the game in the 10/11 season with all that Rooney contract sh*t. If a player doesn't think Man Utd can offer him the chance of trophies then who the hell can?! Then he got £250k a week for it. Just got totally disillusioned with football.

I'm also probably alone but I was devastated with Carlo's sacking.

I've not suffered anywhere near as much pain as others on here, very lucky!

I've only supported us since 2003-2004 when I was seven so for me it's only Moscow and barce/overbo didn't understand just how badly we'd messed up in Monaco as I thought the premier league was more important

Like most here, being born in 87 means I haven't had to suffer the lows that the older generation did. The 94 Cup Final is one of my earliest football memories. I don't remember much, if anything, about the game. Just the score, and seeing United lift the cup. From there things went up for Chelsea really.

My lows would be the 2nd leg against Barca in 2000, coming so close before being destroyed with 10 men in extra time. Kanu's hat-trick at the Bridge. The cup final loss to Arsenal. The "ghost goal" against Liverpool. And of course Moscow and Ovrebo.

An honourable mention goes to the sacking of Carlo.

Lowest point ?

When Muller scored that header for Bayern in the 83rd minute, it was the most depressing 5 minutes of my life.

Drrrooogggbbbaaaaaaa !!!!!!!
