Oscar - Little Diamond

Great finish by Oscar, more of that for us.

But the commentary for Neymar's second goal is hilarious. Neymar scored his "second goal of the night and third for Chelsea" apparently! Here's the link.

Good game by Oscar now hope he takes some confidence from it and regains his form.

This was a great gesture by Neymar:

Luiz, Oscar and Willian all saying hello to the kid as well haha.

Watched a "highlights" package of Oscar on youtube the other day

75% of it was Oscar making hard tackles. I like a hardworking player as much as the next person, but if that's all the highlights we get from a supposed no 10, it's safe to say he's horribly out of form.

Fortunately for Oscar, Moura's coming back from injury and Scolari picks based on favouritism rather than form, because Coutinho is miles ahead of him in the creative stakes for my money.

Coutinho also plays for a team with two very good strikers. Look at Hazard, I saw a mention of him creating the most chances of any player in the top 5 leagues. Squawka shows it as nearly double that of Coutinho, and Oscar on par with Coutinho. But we know how good a creator can look playing in such a progressive team with a very good strike force.

Oscar just isnt a creative player. You can sugarcoat it however you like, blame it on Torres and Etoo, on tiredness . . . whatever.

Lets just hope he goes back to scoring goals because he wont be setting up any.

Ridiculous. The boy is fine creatively. Perhaps not as efficient as Mata yet, and not as technically gifted as some no.10s but to say he isn't a creative player is rubbish.

i will admit that saying hes isnt creative is an overreaction. however

2 assists in 26 PL games this season

last season, 5 in 24

passing percentage barely over 80%

for a starting nr 10, his creativity should come under question. to say its 'fine' is rubbish

You do understand that someone else has to be on the other end of those assists? And yet you say others can't blame his 'lack of creativity' on the the strike force. You shouldn't be looking at his assists, find a statistic on chances created or key passes which is a more relevant statistic. Compare that to the likes of Coutinho, Rooney etc. And any pass completion rate over 80% is good.

I dont need to check his key passes or chances created statistics to realize hes not creating enough. Ive been watching him play week in week out.

But, I did indulge you and found out that hes 44th in the PL when it comes to 'key passes'. Obviously our standards differ quite a lot, so im just wondering would you consider that 'fine' or 'fantastic' or . . .

Well that's a little different to saying he isn't creative. I of course agree that he could be more efficient and the same goes for Willian. But that is a matter of output and not player characteristics.

Football is a great game because you don't need 11 players just one to assist and one to score..

Shurlle has No assist for Torres goal last week against gala But his pass was key and I would call.it a creative one

So many statisctic monkies on this forum lately. To truly evaluate a player you need to look at his performances over the course of a season and whilst I will be the first to admit he has definitely been off the boil lately in the last 2-3 games (especially vs. Everton), prior to that and for the best part of the first half of the season he was phenomenal. Let's not forget we also played 4-3-3 in some of our key matches so Oscar had to sit those games out.

To say that he isn't creative is nonsense, you are just comparing him to Mata's creativity and whilst hands down Mata was the more creative player what Oscar brings as an all-round player, for me, easily outweighs Mata.

Which is exactly why venom said to look at key passes; Lane did and it turns out Oscar isn't rating too high on that either.

Oscar was far from phenomenal in the first half of the season; he's not been as influential as he was last season at all.

He's 22. He'll improve. The point that people are making is that his record seems to suggest he is a different type of AM to what we thought we were getting.

You think he should remain #10 or is he suited elsewhere?

Mourinho thinks differently. He said Oscar was the best Chelsea player in the first monzhs of the season.

Funny to come on here and once again see everyone tearing each others throats out. I mentioned this numerous times before Jose made Oscar our no. 10 and still stand by it. I think Oscar would flourish playing deeper next to Matic. Give him and Ramires that spot to share and Chelsea will have a wonderful midfield, better than what we have already. Mata could have been the no. 10 or maybe somebody else? With that said though, I am going to trust Jose and his assessment on players because he is obviously ridiculously proven in the trophy cabinet and knows a sh*t more about football than I...

Oh, and did I mention we are top to of the table without an ideal striker!?! In Jose we should trust!

To be fair a lot of the rumours on PSG are just fake, the papers want something to write about so they just put PSG in there because they are the new rich club building. So far they have wanted every single player in the world.

He also said we're the little horse in the title race and that he would never let Mata go. Considering how average we were in the first part of the season, being the "best" Chelsea player then is not necessarily a big merit. He may have been the best relative to the team around him but in pure terms, he was still well off the player he potentially can be.

I think he's a number 10. I don't think he has the ability to pass over range consistently to be a number 6/8, and of late, I think his biggest problem is that he is playing far too deeply.

I'd like to see him play a number 10 role similar to that which Shinji Kagawa played at Dortmund, essentially a second striker playing just behind the main centre-forward. Not a classical playmaker, we would try to make the most of his great movement and natural pace and energy by limiting his passing to short, sharp interchanges around the box, and make him the first line of defense stopping CBs and DMs playing the ball out from the back. Primarily, he'd be a goalscorer though, lurking in the box for crosses and cutbacks.
